My soul still hurts from that crate landing on me. I looked up and was like "oo ammo" then died instantly...
Resupply and Revive
Lmao I love your “I’m spawning at main..and filing a report” in the chat😂
Oh look ammo crate!
what sog server is this
Is this a private or public server?
If drew thinks 2,000 flechettes are bad, wait until he finds out about the Sheridan packing ~10,000 in one shot
WHAT
american strategy in vietnam: if we hit everything, absolutely everything, we cant miss and will hit the target eventually
Edit: except that one bridge, forgot about that one
@@OperatorDrewski Wipe out entire tree lines like a ground fired short range carpet bomb

@@OperatorDrewski literally a tank shell FULL of em lol, so a lot more can be squeezed into a tank's shell than a 2.7 inch rocket lol
@@OperatorDrewski one instance I’ve heard of them being used is when the enemy jumps onto your buddy tank you would be “mostly” safe to fire at the tank and rip up everybody on the outside of the tank. Tho I haven’t fact checked that so I may be spouting bullshit
AH-64 guy here, we ran Flechettes in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pretty standard load out. They actually look exactly the same as the ones in the video you talk over, we were probably expending old Vietnam munitions on the Innies
Haha, that's neat - didn't know apaches ran em! Thanks for the comment.
@@OperatorDrewski Thank you for all your content. :)
No, you would have had M255, not Vietnam-era WDU-4.
@@MandolinMagi I was mainly just joking when i said that but thanks for the specifics haha
I was listening to this as he said he'd rather die by apache, because he doesn't want flechettes... OH-58... but everyone can carry the rocket pods.
4:39 gotta love the comparison between Drewskis POV and the average ArmA players POV. Drewski cursing around in a Heli with stable 60 Fps while the ground POV is enjoying his slideshow :D
Wait are you telling me Arma isn't intended to be a slideshow!?
Now I'm starting to second thought ladders being the last boss as well...
A stable 60 fps until he actually sees an enemy
Imagine being at the planning table for how to solve the whole canopy thing.
"they hydras keep detonating on the canopy!"
"What if we just pack a shit ton of nails in the rockets then"
"Man you are a genius"
If only there was a planning table

My grandpa was the youngest Vietnam Cobra pilot, he was with the 101st Airborne and flew all sorts of missions. He doesn't ever talk about it and still suffers pretty bad anxiety from all that. I got most of my info from my mom, who said he did a whole lot of killing and saw a lot of death so he doesn't want to talk.
One story is that he was hovering above a landing zone and dropped something in his cockpit, and bent down to grab it. At that exact instant a bullet whizzed through the canopy and left a big hole where his head used to be. He later flew search and rescue of the coast of California and retired much later after that.
You should try to convince him to tell his story. It won't be long before Vietnam vets are as rare as WW2 ones.
Please inform him of the JOCKO Podcast, and the SOGCast Podcast with John Meyer (MAC-V SOG). Incredible stories are being shared so they are never forgotten.
@@userequaltoNull Yeah no not happening , if you knew him you'd understand.
@@userequaltoNull you don’t do that.
@@Featinwe I guarantee you he is not only aware but disgusted by said war crimes, nobody like way but there absolutely nothing wrong with being an enthusiast over the weapons of war
I served in aviation my entire time in the army. I've talked to loads of aviators from Vietnam. The huey was the preferred gunship because you couldn't hear small arms shooting at you in the cobra.
Imo it's interesting how that psychological aspect affects it
What you didn't see or hear in country would most likely KILL ya, or at least try, Bro
@@newsaxonyproductions7871 its not psychological its physical, if you can't hear being shot at you get shot more.
@@BLU3F4LC0N881 Eli Double Tap talked about that on the Unsubscribe Podcast. He got Peltors and couldn't hear when he was getting shot at.
@@Real_Mick3y6 did eli serve
the cobra is my favorite heli ever! Glad to see a vid by you with it as its main focus!
Ya for back in the day but for today The AH-64 Apache has slightly more FIRE POWER
Imagine this in DCS... "Getting nails" is getting a whole new meaning
Recently saw an interview with a vietnam pilot, who said the cobra's biggest weakness was that the pilot's often didn't hear that they were being shot at (vs the Huey)
That doesn't make sense. And why is it almost a straight copy of another comment here but with the claim of "having talked to Vietnam vets" instead?
Where is the source of this? Just sounds like a lot of baloney because it doesn't make rational sense. Physically. In several ways.
@@SebHaarfagre are u dense? huey gunship has 2 massive open doors to shoot out of. here you are in an enclosed canopy. what part about not hearing small arms doesn't make sense to you? cos it makes a whole lot of sense to me.
@@SebHaarfagre There were four guys aboard the Huey gunships: a pilot, a co-pilot/gunner and two door gunners. In the Huey gunships, the side doors were often removed. Those latter two crew members were extra eyes and ears for the pilots and provided covering fire after pulling out of a gun or rocket run. The Cobra of course lacked the door gunners and had an enclosed cockpit, which did indeed make for less situational awareness, according to many Cobra pilots. However, it was much faster and carried a far heavier armament than the Huey gunships, which more than made up for those deficiencies.
You can read about the (introduction of the) Cobra in 'Vietnam: The Helicopter War' by Philip D. Chinnery, chapter 7, page 86-87 (ISBN 1-85310-827-8).
My second favorite helicopter story I’ve been told from Vietnam is when a pilot had his Cobra’s tail blown off with some AA munition, but somehow managed to magically land it
From playing DCS I know that the Apache has flechette rounds too.. probably almost the same as these ones.
My dude your video quality keeps increasing. The intro with the little history lesson with those awesome historic vids was just excellent. Hope to see more historic intros like that in the future! Keep up the good work!!!
4:30-4:52 That had the same vibe as the end of the Pakistan mission in Black Ops 2 with the buggys and the helicopter drone
"They're just in those trees."
The gunner: 😐😐
The intro with Drew watching the videos was hilarious just listening to him being amazed
The timing of this video is awesome. I just started reading about SOG in Vietnam in a book by Maj. John L. Plaster (Retired), US Army MACV-SOG. It's awesome, and needless to say they were/are complete badasses. The book is called "Secret Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines with the Elite Warriors of SOG", for anyone wondering.
John helped us with the dlc
@@b-52eggbeast88 Really? That's sick!
It looks really good, except for that one clip of that whole side of the building falling after the ammo drop 🤣.
@@kasper_429 that was a dumb mistake by one if our encoders who “fixed” my lights at the last moment but added this unforseen issue. It was fixed a few weeks ago, just waiting for a hotfix release. Dont be swayed by dumb bugs, we squash them pretty fast.
@@b-52eggbeast88 Oh yeah I understand, lol. No problemo, I just thought it was funny. At first, I was like "Damn, that's one heavy air drop!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd love to see someone playing as the receiving end of this in god mode recording this to see you fly over and rain all of that down
I've already discovered what the flechettes can do, I've watched one story on YT where the enemy were shot at with them and when the troops came in to clear up, they saw VC stading up against trees, they were dead and pinned to the trees by the flechettes.
I guess you could say the helicopter had them _pinned_
Gahdamn imagine being another NVA or VC squad and rolling across that for the first time
Idk what it is for me, everyone has their favorites and such but these Vietnam videos are such a thriller to watch. Highly enjoy these and great work Drewski! Salute. Be safe everyone!
Im glad i found your channel. I just got this game to do exactly this type of thing. Got tired of the flight mechanics in BF4 and was looking for something with a bit more realism but not as steep as a learning curve as DCS. Also the ability to communicate with infantry is clutch.
hope you find a good unit. arma has thousands of them hidden below the surface
You should think about incorporating some first person footage from the players on the ground in pip, Im sure it looks awesome as a soldier when you hover around letting loose on the enemy!
I was a flying crew chief on a Cobra.
My pilot was our test pilot... he was a former crew chief himself. They really wanted me to go to WOCS and flight school.
I got bumped from my seat on a mission and ended up in a 58.. my 1st time.... ended up getting 5hrs stick time that day.
But what still stands out was the pilot not knowing that I knew how to fly.
58 is easy compared to front seat in AH-1!!
My favorite is still the ECAS version.. it wasn't heavily laiden with "extras".
Wish the kept them, upgraded avionics to glass cockpit.. maybe they could up the torque rating for transmission.
...
I still have the entire aircraft memorized !!!
that's a cool share thanks!
You should come play the game with us - experienced pilots do love it - we don’t have a kiowa but we got a cayuse.
Drew is a monster in aircraft in Arma I love watching him in the A-10 but now seeing him in a Cobra just reconfirms he I a beast of a pilot 😂🤣
I love how you're marking enemies with rockets.
In Florida, once a year a guy brings his Vietnam era Cobra into our neighborhood and lands it for the day in the neighbors back yard. Its insane to have flying at you when you step outside your home to see what the hell is making such a sound. The pilot would talk about having to enter a dive to get the rockets on target, and the cannon up front was devastating.
Amazing
Yo I live in Florida, what county?

@4:08 the screams of Arma moments can be heard far and wide lol
Loving the facts with the helicopters Drewski! Kinda reminds me of how Garand Thumb covers weapons and showcases them very nice👍
This looks incredibly entertaining & funny. Looking forward to more Arma 3 vids!
Love the vids, bud. HAHAHA, 4:18 , how was that possible? 😆
it happened in my playthrough as well lmfao, safe to say we haven't touched saigon since xd
I'd love to see a Prairie Fire video featuring one of the boats.
Damnit drewski you always make me laugh too hard at stupid o'clock in the morning when everybody is asleep lmao
Drewski I love your videos, but I REALLY love these heli/jet type videos in arma. I hope you continue to upload more of these kinds of videos, but I’ll watch anything you upload honestly.
love the AH-1 and the UH-1 but those are the helicopters i saw and worked with in the 70's when i was in the Army.

1:06 "concealing their landing" big smoke could go brrrrr

Great video. I didn't know they had air bursting rockets. That's freakin cool.
Nice to see an arma 3 video again. Good vid Drewski
Keep up the awesome work Drew, and keep kicking ass!
I just love the Prairie Fire Ops. I just love them. I could watch a 1000 vids of htis kind and not stop. Srsly keep it up
The WDU-4 warhead used in Vietnam has a fixed 1.6 second time fuze. The post-Vietnam M255 has a fuze that can be set for ranges from 500 to 6900m in 100m increments.
WDU-4 has ~2200x 20-grain flechetes, M255 has ~1100 60 grain flechetes. Essentially .22LR and 5.56 NATO weights.
The issue of HE fuzes detonating in the canopy was also addressed with the M433, which has multiple delay options to allow it to hit the canopy and detonate below it.
When did M261 MPSM enter service?
@@forcea1454 Very late 70s/early 80s. Would be usable on AH-1E/F and AH-64A onwards
It uses the same fuze as M255
can we agree that the cobra is the coolest helicopter
Approved
USMC is still flying the Snake, I believe it’s the ZULU model.
Oh my god this was AMAZING the building toppling over at the end was so funny
During the intro the big white building you were flying around gave me flash backs of rising storm
Great video Drewski, the intro was awesome! Keep it up!
AH-1Z is definitely my favorite for a long time. It's a badass today.
Yo by this upload you made my day 1000x times better. Love heli vids

I love these Vietnam videos in Arma every time. Especially helicopters in Vietnam.
Very cool helicopter, thankyou for educating me on what I believe is cooler then the apache now 😊
Arnold firing and hitting VC's with Flechette's "STICK AROUND!"
Man I really need to get into Prairie Fire. Also I'd love to see the AH-1 in DCS (hopefully with ground unit damage model improvements)...
I realy like that you put the history behind it.👍👍
Drewski I am glad you are posting more frequently. I really enjoy your content.
this is sick loved this vid
There is nothing more veitnam than that "zone defend" radio broadcast, and Drewski marking points for his gunner...WITH M247s.
I like how the black screen at the start fades out perfectly to the YT player control hiding itself
just a note to make the cobra more terrfiying. that orange puff of smoke from the fleccete rocket, is actually an anticoagulant
I was in an Air Cav squadron that had Cobras that had served in Vietnam. I had the pleasure of walking past them on the way to formation in the morning. Rode in the Huey and the Kiowa, but never in the Cobra. Kinda sad about that.
very nice video man i loved it
I use to always have a factette on my hat in the military, any AMMO troop worth their salt always had a few of them handy.
So OpratorDrewski is going from psycho battlefield taxi with sick helicopter move to this format... love it.
Amazing video, was wondering if you knew exactly what variation of the AH-1 this might be. Again great video and love these Arma videos!
Its a Golf
The only AH-1s in Vietnam were Golfs for the Army and Juliets for the Marines.
12:10 "hooo that is ants bro" lol hilarious
Amazing intro as usual, Drew
Gives new meaning to "Nailed it!"
I hopped into the cockpit of the g variant at an air museum and it felt so real to be in there.
Anytime I see Vietnam in a game or movie CCR starts playing in my head
I obviously don't have the slightest clue about vietnam era US military tech 😅
I casually guessed that there'd be roughly about 65.000 nails in a flechette rocket - and I was FULLY prepared to hear a even higher number ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Love the Nam stuff. Keep it coming!
My personal favorite version is the ones with the giant m195 chaingun
My friend has had an experience while playing Mike Force where the ZPUs ranging wasnt to the correct distance and the thin Cobra was able to sit comfortably in that zone where the rounds wouldn't meet together
Dude wtf, you fly soo good it's amazing.. you should do a settings/tips video for flying helos
"Another here, another one down here, another here ..." It's like Bubba and his shrimp recipes! 🤣
Lets see what this video is all about, keep it up Drewski!
Love the vids
Love when Drew said in the first clip : "Wee! Bum bum bum bum!"
Could you think about doing some Vietnam jet stuff? Great video as always!
Drewski you have to try the phantom, the napalm is insane
Cant wait to watch it till the end!
I love the cobra series, from first to AH-1Z
great video, would love to see you fly the ka50 in dcs
A cool yet effective pilot :)
great video, would be even better imo if you added more perspective from ground units as you were delivering the cas, nontheless, great video :)
4:06, damn civil engineers!
Talk about Tofu Dreg buildings! 😂
Both are work horses and legends in their own right. I love snake pilots esp stories from Vietnam
Cool vido. The "documentary" part at the star was very..uhh..instructional. We need a Vietnam Map and a Huey Cobra urgently in DCS.
It’s probably just fudd lore but I’ve heard that the orange dye just so happens to be a anti coagulant. It’s not designed to be of course it just happened to be so.
Hey drew I love ur videos and I know you know we love them too !!! It’s like a movie I don’t want to end
Did i just hear “wtf drill?” at 4:20 😂😂😂
Great intro as always
2:50 the Apache can also carry flechette rockets lol
That ammo drop tho was awesome lol!!!
AH-1 was absolutely lethal when paired with an OH-6 as a Hunter Killer or "Pink" team (Cobra being the red element and the Loach as the white element.)
The scout was low and fast and the Cobra would sit around 10000 feet with the gunner working the UHF/VHF radios and working the maps (everything was a green blur for the scout crew). The Scout would draw fire and the Cobra would roll in with rockets and ruin everyone's day.
Read Low Level Hell by Hugh Mills, a particularly aggressive scout pilot in the Big Red One.
That was awesome
Now we need a hunter-killer video, with a scout and the Cobra.
Screw the flechette rockets. Drop ammo boxes on the enemies.
I’m an Apache crewchief. We use flechettes too
AH cobra looks amazing
