First period of Game 1 - Stanley Cup Semi-Final at the Montreal Forum Hockey Night in Canada on CBC - Posted for educational and historical purposes only. No copyright infringement is intended.
Any old Canadien fans out there remember when the great Roget Doucet began singing the national anthems at The Forum? He surely added something to the B's/C's games in the 70's!!
@@leonardbonitt3586same. That 7-6 win at the Forum, February 1973, was the first step toward the Cup in my opinion. Just great atmosphere at those games
In My first organized hockey league I was on the Canadiens...I was six years old...In my first pack of hockey cards the first player in the pack was Cournyer...I was number 12 from then on...
I remember there was grimm silence in the 3rd period until Ferguson scored at the 13th minute. The Canadien had won home advantage after a long hard fought season and it seemed to be collapsing. Then, the Forum exploded when Béliveau equalized in the last minute
Oh those precious hockey days with those Ole time commercials, watching with my dad. The road runner yvan cournoyer was my hero growing up, great goal scorer and could he fly.
Pregame/intermission/postgame host Ted Darling would leave the CBC and move to Buffalo in 1970 to become the longtime play-by-play voice of the Buffalo Sabres, and perhaps that city's most beloved play-by-play sports announcer.
I was disappointed to only see most of the first period. Was not this the game that Ralph Backstrom scored the overtime winning goal? Ralph was a fine player, for sure.
People got dressed up nice to go to a hockey game, men in suit and tie, goalies without a mask, players without a helmet, no advertising on the boards, sticks made of real wood, everyone would stand up for the national anthem, decorum and pride and respect, merchandise made in America, moon landing a few months away, the future looked bright, optimism in the air...
Sather! Roadrunner isn't a fighter and I mean that with the greatest respect but wow a couple strong guys going at it Sather had his hands full! I love the HABS
Montreal won the Cup in 1969, but didn't make the playoffs in 1970, losing out of a playoff spot in the final weekend to a bizarre end to the '69-'70 season.
Agreed. He led the playoffs in goals that year. Beliveau said after the series he had never seen anyone so intense on the face-offs. He was very very good for a few years, then of course threw it all away.
Or was severely concussed in G1 of the Leads series. Today, he probably would have missed the rest of that series and probably the first two of the Montreal series. The '68 and '69 PO he was coming off knee and brain injuries.
Think I'm gonna get me one of these fancy new Philco colour TV's I've been hearing so much about.
We had couple of those Philco-Ford TVs in our house up til late 70s.
Come to think of it our fridge was Philco Ford too. LOL

He had a very booming voice.
I believe he became the Forum's anthem singer in 1970.
As a flyers fan Always look forward to him singing the national anthem
He is the one who started doing it in both official languages. bravo for him.

Cournoyer, probably my all time favorite Hockey player. Great to watch
mine too.... the guy was electric!

Brings back memories of games at the Forum. One thing - when the crowd stood up, the tv viewers couldn't see anything on the ice.
Adam 12, one of my favourite shows as a kid.

Beliveau, H. Richard, and Lemaire were clutch. Backstrom shadowed Esposito and gave him no where to move.

He was great in the Summit Series too.
Look at the banana cure on Sanderson's stick. 2:20

Yep. He was great. Along with Rick Azar.
@@austonboston4361 Don't forget RJ. Top shelf where mama hides the cookies.
...wish some footage of guest analyst, Emile Francis, had made the cut!
If you have the overtime period I would love to add it to the Montreal Canadiens playoff overtime goals list
WOW! I can recall those slides with voice overs that were so normal back in those days.
I was disappointed to only see most of the first period. Was not this the game that Ralph Backstrom scored the overtime winning goal? Ralph was a fine player, for sure.
In case you're wondering Habs won the cup that year.
those were the days.
Love that HNIC intro!

I remember how irritating it was that they always changed cameras during a shot on goal to give you close up of the goalie. It was disorientating .
Ted Darling. The original play by play voice of the Buffalo Sabres.
Black and White kinescope recording. would like to see the real color video tape but that was likely not preserved

Did the Habs pull their goalie with about 10 minutes left in the last game of the season to try and make up the tie breaker goal differential?
@@leonardbonitt3586 Yes.
The Bruins were on the rise because of the great trade and Orr but no Cup yet ,Habs still on top of their game
This preempted regular shows that night.
THAT WAS HOT ON THAT NIGHT HOCKEY... GOOD MEMORY
Bob Myers was a linesman in 1969? That's interesting. If he's on the ice for a Bruins-Habs game, the outcome is decided.
Gump Worsely was the 2nd last goalie to play without a mask. Andy Brown was the last.
Game didn't start until 10:26
Sanderson was awesome in that series.

@@northernale He did lose it all. But, he was a very good player. If he had held it together he would have been great.
@@edwardstevens1438 If Sanderson would have been more responsible he would have been enshrined in the HOF!
60° today ... 😅😅 Back before Canada adopted the Metric system in 1970!
tremendous stuff, I remember watching this series when I was in grammar school. B's should have won 4 straight
Boston blew a 2-0 lead late in 3rd.
Orr did score the winning goal in the fourth game in this '69 series.... but it was the only goal he got in the six games in that playoff series.
Or was severely concussed in G1 of the Leads series. Today, he probably would have missed the rest of that series and probably the first two of the Montreal series.

@@KMK7355 Even though Orr played his entire career with chronic knee injuries, he is still he Greatest Hockey Player EVER! I'm not a Bruins fan!
Bruins just couldn't handle the Canadiens and it got worse a couple yrs later when Dryden came up
Bruce Hood - one of the worst referees of the era
... What about Bill Friday?
Losers always complain about Refs!
