your small and medium cups look like our medium and large cups (UK)
+James Anderson i think you were suppose to put that the other way round.
Iqra Khatoon no, american small=uk medium, and american medium=uk large. made sense to me
James Anderson so your saying uk has bigger portions?? i don't know weather im reading this wrong, but isnt it British Small (eg. Small British fries) equivalent to American Medium (eg.medium american fries) and so forth for large.
Iqra Khatoon no, americans sizes are bigger. so if i gave a large McDonalds UK drink to an American, they would think it was medium....because its smaller
James Anderson Thats what i mean't im British and i always thought British have smaller portions and american sizes are bigger, i probably read your first comment wrong.
The thing that suprised me was the fucking size of the drinks. Wtf is wrong with you America?

+Minori Khyzi most people can't
there are 4 countries that use the imperial system, it would be nice to have conversions for the other 280 odd countries
You're also wrong. It's 196, unless you don't count Taiwan (making it 195)
It doesn't matter, what matter right now is that the majority of the coutries use the metric system, yet Americans don't think about it...
I can remember when there was only one size of fries (damn, I'm old).
Well, Google has a great, easy to access conversion tool.
...which the guys at BuzzFeed could have used.
0:24 they must have glued it to make it stay together lol
The Des Plaines, Illinois store was the first corporate store in 1955 under Ray Kroc but the original McDonald's store opened by the McDonald brothers in 1940 is in San Bernardino, CA. As a matter of fact, it was their first restaurant known as the Airdrome opened in Monrovia in 1937 that they moved to San Bernardino. The chain was founded in 1948 with the brothers offering franchising. You can still find pre-Ray Kroc operating McDonald's restaurants like the one in Downey which opened in 1953 and is the oldest operating McDonald's in the world.
This video is kinda bull.

While, I see from where people are coming with that 'line', I'm someone who is against that line. Why? Because no one puts a gun up to your head to eat McD's, or any other fast food meals. I can't say I'm a McD's fan, but when they eliminated the Super Size, I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. People aren't gonna eat less, they're just gonna buy more to fill up the portion they're missing.
Pretty good *make-me-richer* scheme. 😂
This is why I never eat at McDonalds. It's not just junk food or crap food, it's not even food at all. It's all chemicals and soy bean powder mixed together with water.
Its Mcdeath.
No

I'm with you on this one. I hate McDonald's

See that, kids? That's your bladder!😁
Loli cudnt stop laughing
Seeing the burgers plop onto the set is too damn adorable for me-
My mom (69 years old) remembers the paper straws and the burgers actually where much healthier then. She remembers the food being more local and original than what those chains have today. She agrees the quality has MASSIVELY decreased for its worth since then.

That image in the video is the opposite of today
Uh, big correction! McDonalds was not founded in 1955 in Des Plains Illinois. It began in 1948 by the McDonald brothers in San Bernadino, Ca. Ray Kroc began to franchise it for the McDonald brothers in 1955 and later forcibly took it from them, claiming to the world that he was the founder. Watch the movie The Founder for the real story. If you want to honor the real beginning of McDonalds (and the ethical McDonald brothers as opposed to the slimeball Ray Kroc), then change this little video here to be more accurate.
bluedance lilly YES THANK YOU! Come on Buzzfeed. Get your facts straight!!!
I WAS GOING TO SAY THIS. I'm from a couple towns from San Bernardino and the original McDonald's is still there. It's now a small museum and pretty interesting.
And to correct you it was actually 1942 the McDonald's restaurant in San Bernardino opened and 1942 was the year McDonald's was founded. It was significantly changed because the brothers were unhappy with the original profits so they renovated it(to encourage a family atmosphere), had a revised menu(simplified from the existing wider BBQ one into a streamlined menu focused just on Burgers, fries, milkshakes and softdrink) and was reopened with the Speedy-Service system in 1948, resulting in a little bit of confusion (given these were major changes to the restaurant, and arguebally the innovations which made the place and franchise a massive success).

But you could buy 10 then for the price of one today.

So small/regular sized portions at McDonald's haven't changed much since 1955. Interesting
If Buzzfeed wants to do another video on this, I think it would be cool to show the number of 1955 burgers, french fries and soda cups that would take up a food tray
to make the same equivalent to modern day proportions.

+jasmine mccollister and how much is this? in real units? :D
What people miss in this video , is that :
1. Yes the sizes have gotten bigger, but so did the prices.
2. The ingredients are not the same, despite the same look.
3. This is a video comparison between 1950's menu and today's menu. But then this is year 2017, so how would they replicate a 67 year old menu 100 % accurately? - The answer is they have not. Reason? No access to the original recipe.
Ikuzo - wrong....
#1. Portions are a lot smaller. Prices doubled.
#2. Indeed, the ingredients have changed. Nope ...they don't look the same or look better, nor smell better, lol.
#3. The only factual thing you've said. Lol
Source: My age.
You also have to account that inflation existed, so that's why some of the prices went up.
It's actually not bad, unhealthy foods like burgers should cost a lot.
Sure we do need education in eating habits, but raising prices still effects it.

It surprised me that the cola was poured wastefully.
Australians are still getting the raw end of the deal with the big macs being 25% smaller.
at least its not going to make you all fat from the portions being way to big
+Courtney Love no one is forcing anyone to eat the large portions.
+Tristin Tayson I didn't say they are. I just meant that if portion sizes are smaller it is easier to keep more people eating the right amount. 😊
+Tommy Orr Jr well then theyll just put anotha shrimp on the barbie ay
***** hehe Prawn! lol
What surprised me was that they kept filling the large cup until it overflowed.
What surprised me was not showing the now defunct super size
In Murica poor people buy McDonald's but here in Europe it's expensive so it's a treat to go lol fml
+Bunny Star Pretty much true haha :P
In America not only poor people but McDonald's but basically everybody.
+Donny Ayye the point is it's cheap and you can eat there everyday. The last time i ate MC is a year ago or more lol i don't even remember
The reason that it's a treat in Europe isn't because it's more expensive (which it is), it's because other than Norway, Switzerland and a couple of other countries America's average income is higher than Europe and the cost of living is lower. Say what you will about free markets but if you want a big house, nice car and to be able to eat out whenever you want America is your best bet. Too bad we are becoming more Socialist everyday.
+watchdealer11 eh true. I'd live there for the nice weather tho. I crave sunshine all year long with McDonald's hahaha dreams LOL. Anyway the checks are getting smaller and the prices higher. It's horrible.

fl oz?? whats that in ml? much easyer for the rest of the world to also put it in metric.
agreed, even the new generation over here in England are not longer using imperial, metric is the way forward, 1 fluid ounce is about 30ml
because its easier for them to do it customary
An ounce is 28 grams. Obviously, you've never done drugs. lol

The thumbnail represents what happens after you take steroids
This turely fascinates me , people eat way much more food now no wonder why so many people and kids are overweight ( this is coming from an overweight , McDonalds freak so no fat shaming what so ever )
Nah man. It's the people themselves that make them fat. They chose to go to McDonald's.
THICC
i eat allot and i'm not fat
MrMark940 same
MrMark940 Do you have a high metabolism?
Shoutout to this guy going back to the past to get the old menu.
Anyone else trying to find the music?
Lol in Texas the drink sizes are 16 oz (small), 21 oz (medium), and 32 oz (large). The large is only $1.20
In Illinois where I live all sizes are $1.08
WHAT THE HELL IS OZ?
Oz. is the abbreviation for Ounce. 8 ounces to a cup, 32 to a quart, 128 to a gallon.
+Wesley Peck No one understands imperial.
the front looked more like expectation vrs reality.. ..
Surprised that no one cleaned that spill
The size surprised me
What surprised me?
What surprised me was how misleading this was made out to be. For example, you do know, buzzfeed, that by showing how a 1955 hamburger size compares to now does not mean showing three or more DIFFERENT types of burgers. McDonald's still has normal hamburgers just like they did in 1955, and they really have not changed much.
In fact, portion sizes have not increased from the original menu. They have simply added other items that include more or less. Trying to say that portion sizes increased because they now offer more options, is like saying the a car in 1955 had only 4 wheels and a semi in 2015 has 18 wheels and claiming that is an indication of car size increasing.
It genuinely surprised me that when I went to England (I live in Switzerland) and ordered a small drink, it was the size of a medium here and was far to much.
The surprise for me was when they overflowed the large drink cup.
Technically the soft drink sizes are 12oz for the child size 16oz for small 21oz for medium and 30 for large. At least for the US locations
