Use to go to a barber shop in my previous town and this one barber, who was a woman, was always fascinated with beards. She was the go to girl to get your beard trimmed as she would always spend extra time to understand what you wanted and went over each detail. She always delivered the best in the shop.

Unfortunately, in my city there are no real good barbers, only salons. So I decided to just cut my wavy beard myself, as I tend to keep it more natural anyway I think they'll be doing more harm than good.
The Turkish barbers where I live usually aren't trained, only know how to do one style of haircut and don't care how your hair and beard grow. They just cut one way no matter what, everything else you want to have they'll just do badly. After that I just took things into my own hands. DIY is sometimes the way to go if all else fails. :)

Thanks Matty it really is true. Respect the barber, their time & their services. I’ve employed most of these suggestions and looked at a lot of barbers that might work for my beard. It’s been years since I’ve been to one because, well I’m bald. But the beard is new and want to invest in a professional that will get me sorted right with me maintaining in between. I agree that a big part of the problem with people in our times is the desire for instant gratification & wanting everything for free. I don’t think a lot of people understand how much hard work and study goes into being a good barber and that’s part of why so many ask questions online but refuse to pay for services. It’s the difference between looking great, and just ok or worse. Thanks for the advice with this one. It’s a take that I haven’t seen covered much online.

I went to this barber like 2-3 months ago and the cut was amazing, exactly what I wanted, fast forward to 3 days ago, he messed me up pretty bad, took the fade way too high and cut the top rlly short even tho I told him to do the exact same thing, ik it was only the second time going there but now looking back, I think fades just aren't for me. I wanna find one of those stylist guys that do scissor work (and I'm gonna grow out my hair a bit first so I have all the time in the world to find one) but idk where to in my area atm, so I'm looking forward to this video, cheers

sorry to hear about that. Just remember men if you've seen a barber before its always a good idea to take pictures with you of exactly what you want. That barber may have seen 400-500 ppl since he cuts yours last... its hard to keep all those cuts straight in your mind! a lot of guys are moving to scissor work these days... it can look really great an is a bit more low maintenance!

I tried a beard several years ago and it just didn’t work. I’ve fair hair and the first beard grew through a totally different colour, more a strawberry blonde colour. I’m now 55 and a few months ago i thought i’d try again. I Actually love it now and i’ve had people i know actually comment on how much it suits me, even my mother, maybe getting older it suits me more?
I tried trimming it myself and narrowly avoided the ‘chin strap’ look and l’m lucky that my beard grows quite quickly so early mistakes of trimming have disappeared and finding a quality barber seems daunting but this video has helped loads.

Great video. But I have a question. I’ve done the trial and error over and over. I’ve found someone who’s really great with my hair. But as far as my beard not so much. I’ve also tried doing my beard on my own and ended up cutting it down short and starting over. My question is. If I find someone who is great at doing my hair is it wrong if me to have someone else do just my beard? I don’t want to offend anyone. But I would really like to get my beard cleaned up since I’ve been growing it out again for five months and I don’t want to have to cut it down short again and start over.

It is absolutely not offensive to find a different barber for either or both. Or they will let you know that they absolutely don't care. Either way win, win. As long as you are taking some time in their chair and paying them, they probably shouldn't mind.

How do I keep from chewing on my mustache? I can go quite a while without chewing on it, grow a nice one, then eventually, inevitably my life has a couple minutes of downtime, and that's all it takes for me to ruin it. This is more of a Psychology thing, I get it, but eventually my willpower with my mustache breaks. I keep it short, not touching my lip, and have a full beard. I don't think it looks bad but it's like a short beard's mustache with a full beard, which seems a bit silly.
