I think the giant robot was trying to save the Joyboy at that time, but miserably failed, thus now in recent chapter he shouted out loud and said "I am sorry Joyboy, to luffy".
I think imu somehow managed to kill joyboy or defeated him at least (and the robot ran out of energy due to the death of joyboy) since we saw a giant straw hat inside marigouis along with imu starring at it ice cold.
