I can only hope that when Ellen decides that it's time to leave Grey's, Shonda has enough respect to end the show. Ellen ABSOLUTLEY carries this show.
I think Meredith does 40%, the patients make the 30% and the other characters 30%, I watch this show for Amelia and the sisters scenes and April... and I know theres alot of people who dont even like Meredith, but watch for Japril or other characters and the stories.
but yeah, it would be weird to watch without Meredith, not impossible though ... and Ellen is a producer / director too, so I dont think she will just leave. In fact now that I see this, I think Ellen never wanted the love interest so fast, so she probably had alot to do with the fact that Riggs left with Megan
The whole show is around Meredith and her friends. Without Meredith there is no grey's anatomy. Period.
i read a while ago maybe a year that shonda has already stated when ellen pompeo is ready to leave the show will end you can probably find it somewhere so yeah. I think it definetely will
Lubbylove89 Shonda has talked about this and how if either she or Ellen are ready to leave/end it, then that is what they will do. Otherwise until it’s canceled I think they’re gonna play it through

OMG the shade about that love interest and Patrick Dempsey leaving was epic !
But I feel like that isn't shade? She just seems very proud of her own acting skills and she clearly believes that the show and her acting deserve more.
One thing I really love about Grey's is actually that the characters never leave completely. There are very many TV shows that have main characters leave or die and they never mention them again whereas in Grey's they get back to events, they mention Cristina and Derek and Izzie and George, Mark or Lexie. Yes, these actors did leave the show but their characters never did which is really refreshing to see.
I love that Ellen was truthful about how everyone felt when Patrick left. It did suck and it took me a while to go back to the show. Honestly, Ellen is the only reason I stick with it because my 2 other favorites, who were also Mer’s favorites, left and I hated it so much.

I can’t agree with Seth when he said, “I don’t think a show can successfully succeed for 14 season unless it did change,” because I’d still be watching Friends like 500 episodes later if it stayed the same 😂
but that was A COMEDY SHOW, Greys Anatomy is drama, and Im sure "Friends" actually changed, not the cast but the character change and evolve... If Greys was about Meredith and Derek fighting or being on and off 14 seasons, people would be bored at the end

Honestly the quality of the show plummeted after Sandra oh's departure. We still get some fantastic episodes every now and then but overall it's just not at that level anymore. Although I no longer enjoy Grey's like I used to, I still can't bring myself to quit watching it. It's like staying in a toxic relationship only because you are too emotionally involved in it.
Nida Mapari I tried to keep watching but I just couldn’t do it anymore. I stopped watching I think it was season 13. Personally seasons 1-9 are fantastic. The show just started to go downhill after season 10.
i still enjoy it and love it and idk if you know this but christina yang is supposedly coming back soon so maybe that can cheer you up
Nida Mapari I think you just have to find new things to love. Foot the first 10 seasons the relationship between Meredith and Cristina was addicting. But now there’s new things to love. Meredith has become much more open and has built a community instead of being biased to just Cristina and Derek. Instead of being Cristina’s person and Derek’s soulmate, she’s now every ones right hand man. I think that’s awesome.
exactly i stopped though at around season 10 i didn't get to derek's death but i know it happens and other stuff and now im rewatching it and its such a mindblowing feeling...all that nostalgia and u realize that literally everyone leaves or dies

At this point, I love this show, but I’m hate watching it in a way. By season 7/8, I felt like I basically committed my life to the show so I have to follow through, and yet every year I’m waiting for it to end, and every year there’s a new season. I’m slowly dying along with the show. 💀

mer is a unique character in.television/film and is played so beautifully by Pompeo. she is as grey and imperfect as they come, I.e. so normal which is what makes her so relatable
Ellen Pompeo is definitely connected with her character “Meredith” & that is the reason why ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is going strong 15 seasons later, this is my absolute favorite show. I’ve lost track of how many times I have watched it in between seasons just so I can carry the storyline where it was left off.

They wanted to leave! Patrick didnt end well with the producers nor the cast for what it seems, and after 4 seasons Sandra´s has NO INTENTIONS of coming back, not even one episode when Derek died or some big episode... its their choice, what can Shonda actually do?

The fact that the producers didn’t think the show would go on after Patrick Dempsey Ik the ratings did go down a bit but like we having a season 17 I think they should’ve had more faith that without a male star the show would still go on to me it was great watching Meredith being single yet accomplishing so much proving she didn’t need a man and she could do awesome alone

Derek's death was definitely not easy to watch and I'm still devastated and sad and upset til this day that he's gone but I also think that Meredith didnt need a love interest literally like right after her husband died. I think Ellen is right about that bc she CAN carry the show on her own. Meredith doesn't need a man to function. Also, the show is literally called GREYS anatomy and she plays Meredith GREY and I think no matter what happens in the show, the real fans will continue to watch

No one could ever play Meredith as beautifully as Ellen Pompeo has. In every single episode you can see the character development deepen. Meredith changes every single episode and that’s what is so damn beautiful.
Still love Grey’s. Miss some characters. But still watching.

Let me just say this; Mer has always been a big part of my life. She brings out my emotions whenever I don't want to feel or I just need a bit of a push to feel. I still remember the episode where she had to go for therapy, it was my favourite part because the doc would call out on her bullshit and make her feel. Mer has and will always be part of my life even after Grey's anatomy has ended.
Side note, I hope Ellen continues to be part of shondaland and gets to play another main character. 💜

Yes, Dempsey hurted and the wound needed to heal but I still really like the show now especialy the episode of last night. Like that Arrow is doing that now too with Stephen Amell. What I mean evolving makes the show exactly more fun and you stay interested if you do it the right way.

“I want to make people feel” well I had it spoiled for me by a video on CZcams, but I started bawling like a baby in my bed. The first time I watched all the episodes I just liked him, but then I had a dumb crush on Patrick Dempsey.
Ellen actually hadn't done 300 episodes of Grey's at the time of the show's 300th episode. Meredith wasn't seen or heard in episode 16 of season 13. It was only Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew.
