    Sulphuric acid(Kleen Out) might be good at dissolving some organic matter, but here's some tips:
    A.) Sulphuric acid, especially at high concentrations heats up and can react violently with water. I'm not sure how strong Kleen Out is, but be careful.
    B.) Due to sulphuric acid being a "mineral acid" it's chemistry is such that it rapidly and strongly reacts with most metals. I would not use it if you have copper or cast iron pipes. You might get away with it a couple times, but eventually it'll weaken your pipes to failure.
    My point is, don't play with chemicals unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Strong acids also tend to violently react with other chemicals, so please don't mix anything. Sulphur compounds are some of the more toxic ones you can come across in a lab. Things like hydrogen sulfide are very dangerous.

  • @rdizzy1
    @rdizzy1 Před rokem +36

    With most of these chemicals you are supposed to leave them for a few hours and then run the water through as hot as it will go for like 5 minutes afterwards, the chemical dissolves the clog, the hot water rinses it out. Also, each chemical is obviously safe for different types of pipes, and works best on different types of clogs, some work better on oils, some work better on shower drains because they dissolve hair better, etc. I've had totally fine results from generic bottles of drain cleaner from the dollar store.

    Side note: Grease-X (from the root-x people) seems to work really well for buildup. I had our drains scoped before we put new floors in, and the 40 year old kitchen main drain line was spotless. A cast iron drain. And I cook tons of burgers and steaks and rinse the cast iron in that sink.

  • @jamescarlin1681
    @jamescarlin1681 Před rokem +9

    Liquid Lighting works. I think it is like Clean Out, both are acid based. You know it works because there is a rotten eggs smell almost instantly. That’s the acid reacting with the hair and scuzz, releasing sulphur dioxide gas. Acid also creates an exothermic reaction with water so it gets hot. Gotta be careful with it, because it is sulphuric acid. Also in a shower or tub, cover the drain to keep the smell contained.

  • @jacobpitts6846
    @jacobpitts6846 Před rokem +12

    This test was no good because it misunderstands the method of action of the other three products. They have an exothermic reaction when combined with water. they need water to work, it's why the directions say to flush with the hottest possible water for some time at the end.
    The best usage method is to put as much hot water into the clog as it will take, let it go down a little if it can, and then add the product, wait 15 minutes, and flush with water for at least a minute. It will create a burning reaction.

    While Kleen Out did break up the clog faster, Roger found out it's acidic (ow!). The Green Gobbler (close to 2nd?) is an organic digester, so should be safer for the pipes.

    I don't know what it is like in the US, but here in England, we can buy neat sulphuric acid and caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) over the counter in limited amounts after an age check. These are usually the ingredients found in various products that have a large markup and a heavy advertising budget to support. It makes sense to go to the basic ingredient.
    My first preference for clearing a blockage is firstly a basic plunger. Inside the house, I wouldn't use sulphuric acid because it can do some serious damage to any metal fittings that it might encounter in the pipework. I'm happy to use it in the outside drains (it worked wonders with the remains of some tree roots that had blocked the main drain). Inside, I would stick to sodium hydroxide because it is less likely to damage pipework, but wear proper protective gear when using it, and ventilate the room.

    So, question....either that a person uses...is it OK to or which way is correct or works best?... 1- Pour the drain cleaner liquid INTO a clog that is say, NOT all the way DOWN yet & when u pour some drain cleaner, it sorta half fills up the sink a mere 2 fingers ? --- will the cleaner liquid still work its way thru the end of the pipe cleaning it or dissolving it overtime, a few hours or so lets say ....then after a few hrs or overnite, just pour some very hot water ? --- or ... 2- U GOTTA wait until all or MOST of the drainage goes fully down to THEN use the cleaner?.....So which, 1 or 2, or either? - Lets just say, afraid of maybe using hot water while the cleaner is a bit on the sink as well.....hence the question, Thx a lot!

    It there something you can do, say every month or so, to clean out your pipes so that you don't get a build up. Preventive care you can say, so as not to get to the point where you need a plumber or one of these drain cleaners.

      I would get a drain strainer, or something similar, so it can catch any hair or larger pieces of debris that normally clog the drains

    The Liquid Plumber bottle says to pour hot water down the drain, after a specified time, to activate. I don’t believe that was done in this video.

    Plumbers always ask customers have you or any one else but any kind of chemicals down the drain I have been burnt a few times because a customer said no then when I run to a hose bib to wash off my skin one actually said you know I did use liquid fire 2weeks ago

    I have a bald head too, u should have covered that too & why have your sleeves rolled up? Duh 🙄 Anyways. U did a green gobbler video where u said it definitely didn't work & now it shows it did & your saying the Kleen Out worked & as is best, but it's still all black & pipe full 🤔 & what happened to you just pouring hot water? You're all over the place & confusing on what really works? I have a very bad clog & the Drano & Liquid plumber definitely doesn't work & I've always thought they are overrated store products. I'm off to Lowe's to get some industrial strength clog cleaner.

    • @RogerWakefield
      @RogerWakefield  Před 3 měsíci

      Kleen Out did work, although the pipe was black it had already broken down the hair and grease and just turned it into a liquid. So there was no need to add water. Drano and Liquid Plumber did almost nothing. Green Gobbler made the clog slimy and probably would've worked after running water to them.

      These products all contain dangerous caustic chemicals but aren't something that will persist in the environment. There are many chemicals to be mad about but these aren't them.

    why would you use you an air compressor to test these products?? why couldn't you just use regular water? the average consumer is not going to be using an airgun to clear their drains..

    • @RogerWakefield
      @RogerWakefield  Před 6 měsíci

      The water ram is not technically part of the test...the test was to see if drain cleaners would break down the clog in the pipes...and they didn't so we decided to clear the pipes with the water ram...yes always use water to see if that works! Thanks for the comment

  • @BenjaminSodos
    @BenjaminSodos Před dnem

    Without a control, all of this data is completely useless.
    What if the clog was not even a clog?
    What if just pouring water would push it out?
    What if the Pneumatic plunger was all you needed?
    A control would have shown the diff on the basis of nothing vs something, then something vs Other brands.
    Also @8:25 you say 10 PSI when earlier @7:00 you mark it at 20 PSI, so you changed pressure in the same experiment?! This invalidates ANY of the data entirely...

    • @RogerWakefield
      @RogerWakefield  Před dnem

      Well if the clog was not even a clog then you wouldn’t need a drain cleaner…there’s only so much we can do to simulate a clog…everyone’s situation is different
