You miss one thing: You keep your air momentum when you block in the air. Meaning, if you sprint jump then block. You'll still go as fast as your normally would until you land on the ground. This is very useful against skeletons where you're trying to close the distance.

Yep, I can imagen that. You can block off arrows from Skeletons, fireballs shot by blazes and even tridents, thrown by drowned so very EASY!
The problem is the wood because in our minecraft world we broke so many shields that there are no more in the plain biome literally

I remember how mad all of the kids got when the shield was added and click spam with your sword was removed. Games with melee fighting NEED to have some kind of block function to at least be decent. Minecraft is definitely no exception.

Shields are op and very useful, but nothing can replace the sentimental ease of sword blocking, it was also a peace treaty among people like how it is demonstrated through crouching, except with sword blocking.

Once I pissed off 1 creeper, 5 zombies (one baby included) and 4 skeletons with only a shield and a pack of 7 wolves
I just blocked enemies's attacks, punched them and they where dead cause wolves
Edit: many people complain about the creeper...
Let me tell you all the rest of the story.
The creeper never died. I went to sleep, and once I woke up, that mother****** was standing behind a block next to a glass, so I couldn't see him. I went out just to have my front part of house blown up
I can survive that without a shield (^o^)ïŒ

Well, I wish we could use different types of materials to make an Iron shield, a Golden shield, a Diamond shield, and an Emerald shield. We've already got a wooden shield with one piece of iron with it...

Maybe each level of shield reduced the time The shield is disabled after an axe hit. Or the only thing it does is increase the durability
