The entire plot of bleach is that the blades of soul reapers, are actually their soul. They inhabit their consciousness, the blades go from zanpakutou to shikai (partial release) which is starting to form a bond between a soul reaper and their soul. Its why as you explore more of yourself you obtain bankai (full release). Ichigo gained more power the more he learned about his heritage, and his soul. Tybw shows him that he is a reincarnated hollow, his soul is white, the hollow fused to his father's reiatsu. Its why the final issue is titled "the blade is me" the entire soul reaper power system is built around discovering your soul behind your ego. Kenpachi is a great example, he had a ridiculously strong ego, but once he fought died, and resurrected from that death enough times against unohana, he found his soul was yachiru.
Souls manifest in weird ways, zabimaru is a king snake/baboon, benihime is a crimson princess, but they are all the manifested souls of the reapers.

That is white. White's arc was done. As soon as he discovered that white had fused with his father's implanted reiatsu the personality of white melted away. Its stated in interviews after tybw finished that his soul reaper powers were fully bonded with his hollow powers. The two blades we see are actually a blade and scabbard, but the scabbard manifested as a second blade. Its why his new bankai required him to place the blades together, then his bankai showed off white's features, white was no longer an opposing and resisting force since ichigo accepted him as his true self, his true blade. Ichigo IS white. Ichigo is also ywach. He is both and neither, thats the whole concept. The blade is me is to showcase that he finally understands his own soul and obtains a form of enlightenment
