VIVO for the win for me...had more harmonic overtones...and did sound quite a bit close to the EVH style. .Zombie for my 2nd pic was my choice for a more heavy sound...but you forgot to demo the really good CLEAN CH. on the Zombie II...But anyway GREAT VID!!!
Taylor , is it true the orange clone is not of the dark terror
As I'm hoping they produce a version,
And I only need a house room sound
@@Big_Uncle_RandyI like the vivo with the added features and room for a pedal or three
I played with my meteor about 10 gigs, when i wasn't able to use DI for my helix.
It worked fine and sounded killer.
There great backups I ha to buy one cuz my katana head burnt up
I think I like the zoMBie most and then the VIVO, then the JaCkMan and the FireBrand least.
Definitely the Zombie II. I just got one of these last night, and am stunned by the gain and clarity.
I have a Zomie 2. I hooked my cheap Behringer EQ in the effects loop and added a TC Electronics Spark in the front. My cab is a 2X12 Harley Benton Celestion 30’s. It worked great.
Vivo gets my vote, zombie second
Based on vid indeed. However at home zombie sounds better imho. Need to check rest
The best one here, is the Jackman. I like the Meteor. Everyone has the impulse to go for high gain amps, but thats what effects are for. You'll always get a better tone, starting with a good sounding amp and hitting it with your favorite pedal; and sound different from everyone else that just cranks the gain on their Mesa DR. Most high gain amps kinda suck for anything but gain. Much better off with a clear, resonant mid-gain amp and a distortion pedal. Of course, Im accustomed to doing metal with decidedly non-metal amps.
@@springbloom5940 some people just want a simple plug the guitar in and practice set up without pedals. Which imo is what these are actually for. I have a 6505 if I want flash. I just want a high gain mini u can plug into and practice on without any additional accessories.
For that price - awesome amps. I got zombie II, sounds really cool. Good boosters and eq pedals make it sounds much better. VIVO sounds cool too.
Found this one after ordering my Zombie and I do not regret my choice. That thing slays.
Zombie sounded the best, followed closely by the VIVO. The other 2 were just ok. If you get the opportunity, it would be awesome if you could review the Vox MV50 High Gain. I have one and think it's pretty amazing. Would like to hear your thoughts.
Yeeeees! You finally did it! Awesome dude, thanks! Can’t wait to see how my zombie stands up against the others.
Awesome video .....now I have more amps to buy...🙃👍zombie ll and the vivo are my favs...keep up the good work
Most people don't rehearsal with tube amps, most people don't even have tube amps. So these are GREAT, they sound amazing and are loud enough for most people. About the "low end", we are guitarists, not bassists, and to much low end is a mistake. I love this little things, and they don't weight half a ton like my Soldano.
The four amps these are emulating are heavily used within hardcore music. A genre where you really want a decent low end to get those room shaking chugs.
@@RJMStraya Professional guitarists? Sure. But hobbyists, no.
@@RJMStraya nah, pros use in ears and modeling now. Tubes are obsolete.
@@vorpalblades this is half correct. On tour a lot are using kempers, neural dsp, even line6 helix, but in the recording studio are using tubes. Just less crap to have to lug around when touring.
@@RJMStraya most guitarists with money to blow*
I have the Zombie II XL. Usually use my 6505MH on band practice but last time I shocked my friends with the Zombie :D To be honest in the mix I found the Jackman really nice. Less gain is often helps the mix. Thanks for the shootout
I personally have a zombie 2, i run a boost and eq to help fill out the sound. I love it and it keeps up with my band at practice for sure
Nice, I have one also and I now realize it needs a boost and EQ to get the most out of it. I couldnt get the sound I wanted before
@@zombiemontage the joyo vintage od is what i use for a boost, and have the joyo 10 band eq. Both are rock solid pedals
@@billyedkin4837 I'm ordering a Caline 10 band and I already use a Behringer TO800 as a boost :)
In front or in the effects loop?
@@Tohfool i run the eq threw the effects loop, and run everything else threw the front
Solid video, just as always!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I shot out the Vivo and Zombie this past weekend and ended up keeping the Zombie. My main rig is a 50w 5150iii so I was kind of surprised, but the noise floor on the Vivo was so much higher- like double the hum at half the volume of the Zombie. I was surprised how chunky the Zombie was with a super overdrive and a 4x12, but 10-15% more volume would make it perfect (if only it went to 11!).
😂 Yeah, it will think out a bit at high volume, but I agree that it is really chunky!
how do you connect the Joyo zombie headamp to a 4x12 cab that has two sockets for the left and right speakers? Since there's only one socket at the back of the Joyo headamp for 8ohms.
@@rolandjeromedamasco5954 that's where you get to dig inside and rewire it so all 4 are set to one jack. not fun.
Great playing!!,..Good rewiew ;) Cheers
Thanks for that awesome shootout. I personally prefer the VIVO, but since its impossible to get anywhere right now i guess i´m going to take the Zombie. Howewer the EQ seems to make a huge difference.
You did a great job on this video man!
Thanks!!
FireBrand sounds sick. I love that mid push
The boss GE-7 is probably one of the most useful pedals available, it can definitely shape tones. I also have a zombie and I use a marshall mx412 cab and it already lacks the lowend, but this pedal seriously cranks it up.
Yeah, that's why mine is so beat to hell! 😂
To me, even tho he's right about the Firebrand sounding thin compared to the others, the notes seem to have more definition. I'd say it's my favorite based on this video.
Like always, Eddie has the perfect tone wherever he goes lol Weather its a 6505 or 5150 and every other brand's mod of it in-between, always sounds the best to me haha. I personally use the 5150 mod in the Donner Cyclops Mini. I run that direct into my PA system and run an A/B/Y with other amps.
I have the Firebrand and I love the tone it has. I currently play with my 8-string guitar, the Firebrand, a tubescreamer, and a noise supressor. This amp has very good mids for 8-string playing.
I like that you ran an eq into them. I have an MXR 10 band that works good. I don't have an amp I use it with at all now though
Great camera work and so dramatic plugging in the power, EQ in the loop, and powering on. Looked pretty exciting all slow mo.
Sometimes they need a little extra. As in the case of the JaCkMan it needs EQ in the loop and a nice SD-1 or TS in front.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the boos on that one for sure needs to be there.. for me at least.
Best out of the bunch for high gain is the Zombie.
I have mine plugged into a Mesa 1x12 with an EVM speaker and it’s huge sounding.
Just added a Mooer Reecho delay and next is a Mooer 5 band EQ.
Great little setup for home usage with foot switchable clean/gain channels
Goddamn those tiny boxes sound massive. Specially liked it with the EQ pedal. Really torn between the zombie and Jackman.
Well, I hear the valve fizzing in the pinch harmonics so they did something right. The irony is I love my valve gear but that word is what best describes pinch harmonics through valves vs purely solid-state lol.
They could definitely release a Bantamp emulating a Marshall Plexi... Just sayin'...
I have been looking at these for about a year, I ended up pulling the trigger on the Zombie II XL. It’s currently at my house waiting on me to get home in a few days. Your videos have been a MAJOR deciding factor to me and I subscribed!
Awesome, thaknks for being here!
I just pulled the trigger a few hours ago on the zombie 2😎
As a JCM800 and Marshall JMP 2203 fan who can't afford a real one I would go for the Joyo Jackman.
I have the JackMan II. I really love it.
You need to get one MeteOR! I think it sounds fantastic! And jeez, the eq pedal make SUCH a big difference.
My thing with the meteor is why get one when you can get an orange tiny terror for less
@@WardGuitarCabinets Because MeteOR sounds better (subjective but). Also I'm SURE tiny terror costs much more. You're probably talking about Micro Terror.
@@WardGuitarCabinets I tried both an Orange Micro Terror & Dark Terror in a guitar shop where I bought my Jackson JS32 Rhoads, & preferred the cleaner sound of the Joyo ZoMBie, so I believe the MeteOR also sounds very similar, being an emulation of an Orange Amp, only cleaner & tighter.
It's worth the little extra imo. 😂
@@WardGuitarCabinets the problem with the orange and the micro terror is you don't have a separate clean channel so you have to manually adjust to get your clean sound
@@deltasemple383 I dont use a clean channel lol
I love the jackman !!
zombie for certain, i think this so much i bought one and usually don't use any of the pedals i have or built with it, but occasionally the clean channel with a tubescreamer ts808 is pretty legit.
Vivo and firebrand slay! Not surprised. Evh and engl amps both rule
I have the JackMan 2 I'm very pleased with it. I added a crunch pedal and noise gate and damn it sounds good.
man I love the demo song at the end..from the time when you used to shootout among modelers XD
I've been writing a lot for my band, and haven't had as much time to crank out demo songs. Surprised someone remembered though!
I liked the Zombie the best (and I have one), gonna have to try an EQ in the loop!
The Zombie has the most appropriate equalization out of the box but with the eq pedal they all come to life and he becomes my last choice. Vivo and Jackman became f * good. You could have lowered the mids a little more on Firebrand. Anyway, I think it is the best for "less extreme mid scooped" types of metals, like power, melodic and heavy metal.
Great content
Every time you upload a video I hope to see you play Kelly, it's beautiful!!
Great video, in my humble opinion The Jackman and Zombie sounds the best.
Thank you for helping wich to buy!
Stay heavy! 🤘🏻
Yeah, I love that thing... I think it's time for that Kelly review to replace the one that mysteriously disappeared from my channel!
@@TaylorDanley if it's just a reverse headstock my wife would tell that I'm on pornhub again..😃 but still, awesome guitar!
I have the Meteor and Vivo. The Vivo is a bit louder but noisey. The Meteor nails the Orange sound and has girth. I run a Behringer 7 band eq in the loop - level on 7. This adds 3db in volume!!
Havent even watched the video yet but I alredy know is what I need!
🤘🤘
Gonna go out on a limb and say the Duo Rec and JCM 800 BanTamp XL's. I have the Jackman II. A metal zone in the FX loop on the clean channel for layering more takes and sounds in studio, or the dirty channel with a tube screamer with an EQ in the FX loop is phenomenal, though tbh this will work well for most of these amps, if not all of them.
The Jackman, VIVO, and Zombie all sound quite good, and agreed that the Firebrand is the least impressive. Even though I generally prefer my Marshalls and Mesa over my 5150 II (but I still love it too), the VIVO might be the most impressive sounding one to me here.
Jackman is my favorite, but for metal there's no way I wouldn't select the Zombie
Love your playing style!!!!
I would like to hear a shootout between the JOYO ZOMBIE II (with EQ pedal), JOYO Mjolnir, and a real Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. There are huge price differences. Also, the two JOYO units are 5 watts apart and is there a difference. Can you get all you need for less money?
I'm wanting the Mjlonir, but I'm thinking of getting one of the Bantamps so I have a tiny little amp to bring around easier.
Zombie sounds closest to tube even though it isn't my preferred tone. The others like the Vivo sound a little fizzy without power tubes to smooth it out
Man idk whether to get the jackman, zombie or vivo they all sound mint
What are you trying to do? If you are looking to balls to the wall gain choose the zombie. I bought one 3 days ago and it fhkin slams... I haven't played the others but all the videos. I hear they kind of sound muffled or muddy at times
Great review👍
Do these amps still sound any good at bedroom levels?
Sounds great for me at least in my room, no need to eq my jackman though. Boost -> jackman II and zombie II [eq loop] should suffice
I don't even boost mine and it slams
I find tugging the dirty channel's EQ sweep towards the bass side a bit, I guess between 10 and 11 o'clock, and then using a Tube screamer with the gain at 9 o'clock, the tone sweep at 3 o'clock, and the level dimed gives the Jackman a good starting point tone, and then tweak with the EQ pedal from there. Put the gain on the amp at just shy of 3 o'clock. At least, this works on the Jackman II. Takes away all the flubbies introduced by the EQ on the amp favoring the lower end, and gives a nice focused gain boost in the upper mids. I then slightly push the entire midrange spectrum, boost the high end a bit more nudged the bass up a smidge, and drop the super high frequencies to like -6. I use a Zoom multi-FX pedal, and also utilize the noise gate and some things like WAH and flangers, and have a few other amp tones on some adjacent patches setup to play nice with the clean channel, though tbh I rarely, if ever, use those.
Cheers from Texas!
🤘😎🤘
Thanks, I've been wondering about these. A friend bought a mini Frd-man and wasn't impressed. Maybe he should put an EQ in the... 😜
If one needs an EQ, it's simply not the model for THAT desired sound.
It's okay, there are other better suited models, I bet 😅
✌️😁✌️
the jackman and vivo sound very similar to my ear, the zombie sounds very scooped and the firebrand has a ton of mids
Thank you Taylor, for such a comprehensive video!
Based on the comparison, I personally favored the Vivo for its highly useable EQ. I think it worked best in the mix. Slightly scooped mids, aggressive high-end, and plenty of lows.
I found the Jackman to have too much of a scoop and weak highs, while the Firebrand had WAY TOO MUCH of a low mid hump that clouded up the mix. The Zombie was great, and closely resembled the Vivo, however, I found its mids to have too much of a focused sound, almost like using a preamp distortion pedal (ex. Rev G3) into a clean poweramp.
Love your channel! How about some old school metal/hard rock? John Sykes 1987 Whitesnake, is my target tone, without having to buy two Mesa Boogie Colosseum amps!
Great demo!! Watched this a while back and just ordered the Jackman II. Watched some other videos of it and wondered why I wanted it. Came back to this video and it obvious why , watching the Jackman Playthrough with and w/o the EQ. Any suggestions what EQ settings you used? Can't get a closeup of it and I'm not a big EQ guy but do have one. Thanks!!
The Zombie definitely hit the mark the best on there. I'd say that followed by the Vivo, Jackman and then the Firebrand at least in terms of quality tone, regardless of how well the emulation is. Subjective? Yes.
I like both the zombie and vivo as best choices in this lineup. Question is if I already have a power amp pedal then would the Joyo preamp house pedal be better than buying any of these?
How did you use IRs with the heads? Did you use the phone output, the send output or the cabinet output with some kind of attenuator?
I had one of this Zoombie one. They have a huge anoying mid frequency. I trade mine to a Jackman and its way better sounding, but they have less gain.
Most epic slow mo ever
Zombie 2 for me. Got it and a 1x12 vht cab in my cart in musicians friend now.
Great video the zombie 2 was the one I'm looking at, but I'm torn between that and the Jackman the zombie 2 had more distortion, but the Jackman had better tone.
Did I miss what the EQ settings are? Great demo work here! I'm a 1st Edition Zombie user, and that's for sure the sound I like in the demo. But frankly, I'm going to use an EQ and OD pedals, too, which can overcome a plethora of undesirable sound nuances.
I want to know which one is best for metal, thanks 🙏
Atomic,Meteor and Tweedy yo I need all of Joyo Bantamps for collection
Hi there, what amp would be best to copy the guitar sound of 311 (beyond the grey sky)? Thanks
When connecting the eq in the fx loop is it eq only and guitar is plug in amp i put , or your guitar go to eq than effect loop ?
Out of these, I like the Jackman, followed by the Zombie and then Vivo. But honestly, they all sounded fairly samey to my ears (Jackman maybe a bit less so). Might be different if you're playing in the room, but to me, *mostly* they sounded like a slightly different tone setting. I think the cab and mic, or IR in this case, has the biggest influence on tone, and the amp itself is secondary.
I was debating getting a cheap Marshall combo or something, but then I remembered these cheapo heads, so I'm considering getting a couple and a stereo 2x12 Harley Benton V30 cab, running one amp per speaker, and splitting my signal to both at once. But... I kinda prefer to get my drive from pedals mostly, so hard to know which of these would give a good clean tone and still sound great with a Rat or OCD or whatever.
On second thought, maybe I'll just stick to my JC-40 for now and save for a Fender Jazzmaster. It'll always be nagging at my brain if I don't!
They all sound great. Nice riffs. I think the Zombie wins for me
🙌
Great video
I gigged my jackman II and it is loud!
my Favorite's were the Zombie & Jackman
Nissssssssssssssssssce 🥞
I run a EQ & OD with my Zombie as well! Gives it that bite & claw for a pure growler!🐺
Is this like putting the compressor in the effects loop to create the tube sag effect?
The 5150 clone sounds cool. Can these amps be lined out ir daisy chained with another more powerful amp? I have an old Peavey Musician. I know you can use pedals with it but I was curious if one of these Joyo mini amps can be used to give me a more tube like tone.
eu pretendo comprar o Zombie e jackman, parecem otimos pra mim... e uma hotone ampero pra complementar!
The VIVO is the most Crushing one!
These can replace the full valve amps when combined with the EQ pedal, by the sound of them
Hello. Can the BantAmp be used without connection to the speaker output and without connection to the headphone output at the same time, without harming the amplifier? Would the amplifier suffer some kind of damage at the moment or in the long run? I want to output the signal through the amplifier send to an audio interface to record the signal without cabinet emulation so that I can use my custom impulse responses, and at the same time I don't want to have headphones and/or speakers connected for a while, can this be done without damaging the amplifier? Thank you
Listening on shure 425's - totally blown away by how good those all sit in the mix. The Jackman seemed to have the most meat and realistic lows, the vivo was nice and choppy but a bit light on the low end, and the zombie had that massive low end boost (more reminiscent of a 5150 with a lots of resonance really). Firebrand was all mid and sounded pretty nasal. Would be interesting to hear the jackman and vivo and the jackman and zombie together. Do they all have the same clean tone?
Hi, it's possible to connect this amps to the audio interface?
The thing I like about that Firebrand is it sits on the front of the mix extremely well. It's very distinct and clear.
That said I have the Vivo and it was honestly my favorite in this test. I just wish there was an XL version of it.
Vivo and zombie are the best for me
firebrand best
So I have an old ass bogen challenger tube pa head I turned into a guitar amp .... could I use these amps as preamps with that?.... run the send from these into the input jack of my bogen while plugged into the 4x12 cab.... 🤔🤔🤔.... I think in theory it would be ENORMOUS
Can it be put into the effects loop of another amp, DSL40CR?
It would be great if they sold the joyo XL's with at least their joyo cab like the first one's. But they paired it with a 12" speaker.
Does anyone know if the signal coming out of the effects send is at Line level oR Instrument level ?
I'm really digging that Zombie 2
I don't think I have ever played on an amp that doesn't need an EQ on it. Sure there might be some out there that doesn't, but I have never played on one that doesn't sound better without one. I was thinking of getting a couple of these to practice on instead of using my Marshall DSL100H. Tubes just cost so damn much to constantly be replacing every other year. But I love that BIG sound large heads have. Do these little guys make the room move?
Do you list the IR somewhere? And what was the amp for the montage sound?
They all offer something nice. It's crazy how those little things sound. If I had to choose, I'd go Zombie.
Jackman, then Zombie, then Vivo, then Firebrand.
hey Taylor, you said at the beginning the volume varies and the firebrand is the softest... but i want to know which is the loudest?
I’ve tryd that Mesa clone. And even with a. Boost I was disappointed I was shocked cuz a lot of other people loved there’s I feel like it’s only me that didn’t liked the tone . And also I felt it was very very dark sounding but for practice hell why not .
If you think that's a dark sounding then you would hate Engl
The best one is the BlueJay with a DOD/Digitech Death Metal pedal.
Need to try this again throwing in the Mjolnir.
LOL, I had my GE-7 for a very long time too, and the LED on mine is... a little weak.
