    Hello tati i'm a french girl who worked for guerlain 2 years ago and I just want to say that's not an eye liner but a khôl like traditional oriental khôl, so you have to use it on the waterline : you have to put in it the corner of your eye, close your eye on it and slide to the other side and it will color your waterline. My English isn't perfect but I hope you understand my advice 😘 from the south of France

      Patrycja Karłowska that's not the question here... And it's not my brand, i'l not the creator, but I'm totally okay with you it's really expensive ! That's the problem with luxury brands sometimes, you pay the brand not the product. :/

    • @amnahsince87
      @amnahsince87 Před 6 lety +5

      Patrycja Karłowska Kohl in the Middle East and South Asia can also be very expensive as well. There is $2000 dollar high end Kohl in Saudi Arabia not just the mass market cheap kind. It's really about where you get it and branding.

    • @skybri69

      I hated this product with guerlain. I tossed it in the trash. And I knew exactly how to use it, but it never stayed on me. The kohl just went everywhere and stained everything.

    Powder liner is not a new thing. I'm middle eastern and anyone grown up or descended from that region grew up calling this surma. Same with a bunch of other cultures, using that exact wand method. Kind of annoying that a big brand would make something like this and put a huge price tag on it when it's available for a dollar at middle eastern shops.

    • @seher3079
      @seher3079 Před 6 lety +121

      I agree. It's used in India too and its called surma, my grandma would use it all the time. Also the ones that are made back in India are a lot blacker and darker and so much cheaper

    • @paubaires
      @paubaires Před 6 lety +18

      I'm from Argentina and I used a very similar product most of my highschool years. Haven't finished the video but it'd stay all day and was super black. The wand maybe tricky at the begging but once you get used to, is super practical. Mine also was pretty cheap and the first one was given by my mom (she has moor relatives in her lineage).

    This kind of eyeliner has been used in the Middle East & India since forever! I have been using this product for almost 20 years. I'm very surprised why it's so new in the USA?! It's very easy to use if you aren't scared of it of course! On its own inside, above and under can look so beautiful. The actual name of this kind of eyeliner is Sormeh. You can watch an Iranian video that it's in two parts and shows you how to apply Sormeh. It's called " Applying Sormeh by Zan"! You can have it as dark or as light as you wish. Another beautiful look Tati

      Faranak Peart -Do you know if there is anywhere to purchase authentic Sormeh in the US, or to have it shipped to the US? Also, is it only worn in gray & black, or do you wear different colors for fun, weddings, etc? I struggle with keeping a normal eyeliner in my waterline, & everyone says this lasts a very long time! Thank you for sharing!!

    Hi tati this kohl is what our grandmothers use to line their eyes using all natural kohl the only thing u did wrong is the way you applied it to your water line 😅 your suppose to put the whole sword thing diagonaly on your water line and close your eyes and move it side to side this way you get pigment on both lower and upper water line 😁 yes it is uncomfortable cuz it's powder but I think it's too over priced and it's not even the real thing 🤔

She never really does anything drastic with her makeup, and I've never seen her try an outer V. Every time I see her do a look, I always hope she'll drag some of that eyeshadow out a little and get really cat eye and playful.
      I think shes afraid to step outside of her comfort zone sometimes. But I still enjoy watching her try different products. She's got great character. One of those people you could see yourself binging on cheese and wine with on a rainy day

    Kohl is used on the waterline, you press the wand against your water line and swoop to the side. Its known as Kajal, Kohl or Surma and can be purchased on Etsy, eBay, and commonly middle eastern and Muslim shops. I personally think the Guerlain liner is truly a rip-off. It is so easy to get ahold of, handmade is better, you can make it at home even like you could have made it at home and bought a 20 dollar bottle with the applicator from Etsy and it would be identical if not better.

    For all the commenters saying it's grey: this is surma which is supposed to be grey. It's used in the waterline. One must slide the swordlike applicator between one's closed eye.
    If you want it to be black then you can use kajal which is also a powdered liner for the waterline but is black.
    One more thing, these powdered lines do cause irritation for a few seconds but it's okay. If the irritation stays longer then discontinue use and visit your doctor. One can also prevent irritation by not sharing the product with anyone.
    Hope anyone reading this will gain some knowledge 😊
    Love from Pakistan

    Hello beautiful
    So, Guerlain released this product many years ago (I think almost 20 years ago) and also had it in gorgeous blue and brown (and maybe even more colours).
    The product is designed to look and to be used like the ancient Arabic way of putting an eyeliner- in fact, the word Kohl is based on the Arabic word Kch'l (the "ch" part is not pronounced like "tsh", but like the back-in-your-throat-almost-coughing sound that is used in Arabic, Hebrew, Welsh and few other languages around the world..).
    The proper way of using it, is to open your eye, put the wand on the water-line, close your eye (while the wand is still there!), and then slowly pull out the wand by dragging it to the side- this way your entire lower AND upper water lines are smeared with the product, and you should end-up with a nice look (with practice you can perfect the technique to give you a nice smudged/semi-smoky eye).
    Hope my explanation (and short history lesson.. hehe) was helpful and I hope to see you try it
    again using the way I suggested..
    Lots and lots of love,
    Tom :)
    xoxo

    FOR THE PEOPLE ASKING WHERE IS THE PIGMENT?!
    This is not your typical eyeliner, it's called "Kajal" and it's been used for centuries in the middle east, india, pakistan and Egypt. it's not supposed to be on your lids, you're not supposed to do a wing with it, you only use it in your waterline. and it looks very pigmented and dark in the waterline.

    I LOVE LINER ON MY LOWER WATER LINE! I don't care if it's out of style. I don't care if it makes your eyes look "closed off." I don't care if it makes you look like you're doing your makeup in 2004. I think it makes everyone's eyes pop and makes everyone's eyes look so much better. Everyone is doing white in the waterline to "open their eyes" and I seriously hate it. lol

      Liner in the lower water line really makes a difference. The eyes do pop, it looks more clean cut, youthful, and makes you look more awake. Put in all that effort to get rid of dark circles then darken under your eye again? I don’t get it. We all have our preferred ways and have stuff that works better for us sure but some things just don’t make sense to me. You do you queens but I’ll do me.

      @EndohMiharu Před 6 lety +25

      She didn't use the liner right. She was supposed to directly lay it on her waterline (horizontally and parallel), close her eyelids and then pull it through. That would have probably given a more intense payoff. However I don't know why this is a product for modern consumers since it's based off an ancient way of applying liner in India, which seems very outdated, uncomfortable to apply, and possibly irritating to the eyes. There are perfectly good liners out there that are much more comfortable to apply, so I feel like the only people who would want to buy this are those who want to play around with the traditional technique or something idk.

      I bought that "eyeliner" about 10 years ago in Europe. The worst beauty product in the history of cosmetics and the biggest waste of money e v er . I would never have thought it's still in production. It's like dipping a toothpick in caster sugar, running it on your eyelids (fallout and all) and then calling it a great white powder eyeliner. Please.

    • @EndohMiharu
      @EndohMiharu Před 6 lety +2

      Flavia Monti, I think it's trending now because of some videos that got popular recently showing this type of traditional eyeliner in India or other places. So now it's being hyped but it'll probably die out sooner than later. It's an ancient way of applying eyeliner so I'm sure it was considered an amazing novelty wayyyyyy back in the day when there were not many options, but I just don't see the appeal for modern application techniques and styles.

    Lol this is literally surma/kajal/kohl (package says kohl too) that South asian/middle eastern (and other) people have been using for centuries so not sure what's so innovative about it. You can get these a lot cheaper (~$5-10) at any middle eastern or south asian stores; the packaging isn't as fancy but it's the same product.
    Usually though it's meant as a waterline liner (if it's powder) not a lid one; the water in your eyes help it adhere better. It will probably have a lot of fall out so I tap off the excess in a bin and do it before any face makeup so that clean up is easier

      @ithry18 Před 6 lety

      Exactly! I’m Algerian (north Africa) and that’s what my people have used for millenniums... It’s definitely not meant to be used on the eyelid though... but you can get the most beautiful smoky eyeliner if you put a lot of it in the waterline and let it smudge between your lashes. AND if it’s real kohl, it’s actually antiseptic and will not harm your eyes. Don’t worry about it getting in your eyes

    I honestly think it has such a great effect for when you don’t have lashes on, it gives you a thick illusion without it being jet black, although, let’s be real, you can get the same effect with a black eyeshadow.

    We call it celak/kajal in Indonesia. You can get it for a very cheap price here and it works just as good I think. You should try using it by putting the wand horizontally above your waterline and close your eyes slowly and move the wand from your inner eyes and go outward. You'll get more product on your eyes by doing that.
    And as always, love watching your videos Tati!

After this video I think I will go back and give it a shot. It basically uses the idea of ancient Arabic kohl, with the powder and wand. You can search for that and see how it used to be back then. For those annoyed and saying it's like surma or kajal, we obviously don't have that commonly here, so I would take the opportunity to let Tati know where she can get it online and have her try it! I know I hadn't really seen anything like it here in the USA in any store. But I know Tati would probably be interested in these products you're all talking about and it's a great chance to expose her, and by extension her fans, to something you have grown up with! 😊

      I don’t believe it’s recommended for the eyes, I know a lot of generations have used it almost like a “protection” against bacteria. They use it on babies as well, but I almost want to say it causes lead poisoning.

    • @savannam.7048
      @savannam.7048 Před 6 lety +11

      Taylor Becerra, well there's a ton of people saying it's existed forever for a buck in the middle East and they use it on their eyes, it's more pigmented,lasts forever, etc. And I think if so many people came to the comments just to point it out or get agitated about it, perhaps instead they should educate, provide links for Tati to get it and allow her the opportunity to try it instead of getting persnickety about it. There are some just saying, "Hey, this reminds me of..." But some are, no joke, seemingly angry about it.
      I'd rather be educated about something similar than be yelled at about it 😕

    i loved it on your waterline without the shadows ! it looks pretty! lovely colour too ! I'm pretty sure its just overpriced surmah / kajal though . Widely used in middle east and south asian communities ! As usual western companies taking traditional products , changing the name and making money off of it . You can find it for much cheaper Tati ! Its mostly used to apply in waterline and to tight line. Believed to give protection to the eyes and also used for beauty purposes !

      She didn't apply it correctly so this experiment wasn't sufficient to tell what it really looks like. She's supposed to stick it on her waterline, close her eyelids, and then pull it through (which sounds super terrifying to me btw, but that's the correct way to apply it).

      MotorCity Vicki not hating at all, just stating the general consensus. Never said I didn't like how Maseratis look. The closest I got to "hating" would probably be the statement about the time I sat in one and was surprised by how cheap the interior seemed up close, but honestly the reason I was so surprised was precisely because I had heard so much about them and I knew they were so expensive.... The exterior looked great but then I got in and it was just so underwhelming. Personal opinion though, obviously. But... It is an opinion that is shared by a lot of people lol
