I learned I was about 15 % Portuguese and one day realized that the Southern Sicilian I learned from Mi Nonnu Onfrio was actually Portuguese slang. I always wonder why some Italian speakers asked what language is that? Spanish? Well all Latin languages share some feeling and speech. I grew up on Flamenco and have a large collection of Fado from my Father. RIP Beautiful songs. Love it!!

They met her backstage and complimented her in old world Portuguese (my grandparents were Madeiran). She invited them to stay with her when she visited Lisbon. For all I know everyone got the same invitation - but when they actually did, Amalia was on tour so they stayed with her sister! How down to earth can you get.

Now I wonder what the hell i was thinking before. Absolutely beautiful. and my parents were right Amalia really is the queen of fado. What a gifted woman she was.

A dark basement restaurant, a decanter of delicious wine, and Fado. Go to all the historical sites, they're beautiful. When you're done settle down with some wonderful food, a glass of wine, and listen to the songs of mariners who were traveling across the globe hundreds of years ago.

Marvelous video David!!! Posted it on G+ along with some photos andvideos of the Great Amalia Rodrigues. She stole my heart many yearsago with a live recording at the Olympia in Paris! Her unique and passionate art will never be forgotten. She was a great icon and divabut, most important, the voice of the Portuguese People. Brava!

Olá! Gostei muito do video. Podes fazer uma versão em Português? Gostaria de mostrar para minha família.
O fado lembra-me da música Enka japonesa e do tango argentino. Bela melancolia que representa um povo inteiro. Muito bonito.

    Good to hear this.
