In this video I react to my old what I eat in a day video which I made in 2021. Looking back, I wanted to discuss some of the issues with WIEIAD videos and why I wouldn't choose to make this content now. I am proud of how far I've come. I have compassion for the me at in this video, and I have compassion for anyone going through something similar. You are not a bad person for the decisions your ED drives you to make, but it is important to fight agains that voice. #AllieOstrander #EDRecovery #MentalHealth #TransparentLabs

Eating disorders make us do things we would never do as people- it is great you can reflect on your earlier actions and say you know it was wrong. It shows how much progress you’ve made and I am so happy for you!
it's crazy what that ED voice will convince you is a good idea...
Allie, thank you for owning it. I always like how you show your journey, good and bad. I also always enjoy your sense of humor. 😊✌️
Thank you so much!
“It’s not social reality, it’s social media.” That was an epic statement!!
it's true!
I'm 51, have no interest in running, don't really have much in common with you, but I enjoy your personality, love your videos, and really appreciate your integrity. Totally cheering you on no matter what your goals are. :)
this makes me so happy! I'm glad that you enjoy my videos and am so happy that you're following along with my goals :)
Oh, cuty-pie 😅
Hey Allie, I am a young runner and have always struggled with my body. Your content is what keeps me going, and I think the only reason I don't have an eating disorder. Thank you so much
These type of comments mean so much to me. Thank you for sharing, and keep believing in yourself and your body.
Allie, you seriously deserve an award from a mental health organization for your bravery and honesty and great job sharing so openly about your own ED and general ED information. ❤❤❤❤ If only we had someone like you when I was younger.
I’d vote for her, for sure.
Yes,totally agree 😉
Hi Allie! I just thought I would let you know how many big things you have done in my life! Some girls on my team told me I would NEVER break 5 in the mile because I had my period, but yesterday I not only broke 5 in the mile but ran a 4:40!! Thank you for inspiring me to keep going!!!❤
oh wow that's cheetah fast! congrats!!
What, thats actually so good omg how old are you?
@@Ema_045 I’m 16!
@@ozthreaders your so fast, I wish I could be as good at running as you! how did you do it!
@@Ema_045 sit on her and kick!! You can draft off her!!
Congratulations on the intellectual honesty and just basic integrity you show in this video. My take is that while you may not have been as authentic in the older video as you would like, you gave sound advice and were not trying to inspire anyone to go down a path of dangerous eating or exercise habits. I do like what I eat in a day videos from credible athletes because they usually contain interesting meal and snack ideas.
I think that food content can be great because recipe ideas and nutrition advice are helpful, it's just that I do think those need to be coming more from dietitians and chefs, just because of how sensitive of a topic this is. Obviously everyone should be allowed to share, I just find that most people who think about food enough to want to share a WIEIAD often don't have the best relationship with food.
What you said about how eating disorders thrive in secrecy really got me. I've never had an eating disorder, but I've dealt with suicidal ideation, which I have found also thrives in isolation. I took photos of myself seeming happy to show everyone I was okay, when in reality, I was far from it. The people who are suffering the most are often suffering in silence. Honestly, I want to thank you for sharing your story! You have helped me realize new things about myself, and I could not be more grateful!
❤ the fluff!!
❤ all the total muppet moments
I will definitely keep more in, at least in some videos!
I'm 31 and I'm 2 years recovered from an eating disorder. I just subscribed to your channel because your words come from the heart in this video and I'm excited to see you flourish. I'm rooting for you, along with many other people! This was a truly inspiring video to see and I hope a lot of other people end up watching this. Your recovery and openness can also help others. Please continue to keep posting and sharing your journey!
Wow! This is so impressive… not only do you admit you were wrong… but you forgive yourself, and you compliment yourself for what you did right!!!! You’re like “hey this is me, I’m not perfect, but I’m trying my best, I may mess up… but I’m learning,” love you and your honesty!!!!
Wow I'm impressed and surprised that you are revisiting this subject. Because I definitely remembered this and wondered about you making those huge pancakes and other stuff. It is really admirable that you are owning up because you could easily could have never brought it up. Oh about the fluff, I like the way your editing has evolved 😊
Glad you like the way my editing has evolved!
Thank you, thank you ,thank you for revealing this! The ED will lie to you and let you think you can pass those lies off to others . May you continue to heal and grow in journey as a healthy athlete!
Yes, EDs are such liars, and that's not the voice that I want to base my life off of anymore ;)
You have no idea how much this video helps. Thanks Allie!
Such a great video, thank you so much for your honesty and your compassion with yourself!
Just proud of you for your progress. We all try our best and you do have to give yourself grace and love to the old us. ❤❤❤
So proud of you for making this react video! Such important points about WIEIAD. Thanks as always for sharing your journey.
Thank you for sharing a vulnerable part of yourself with us for our own edification, education, and growth.
Look at how far you've come!
Thank you for your transparency Allie.
dang this is amazing. appreciate your honesty!
This is so brave, Allie; thank you for sharing; it really helps. You're amazing
Thank you for that video! CZcams community would need more like these. It was so honest and felt good watching how you handle your relationship with food now. Good luck for your ongoing recovery! GO GIRL! 🫶
Rewatching your videos takes guts! Especially when its so personal. Seriously, Im in awe of how honest you are. Inspirational in a big way.
Yes to fluff!!!
You are amazing for helping yourself and others. Unique and special.
Love this honesty Allie! It's so great that you show this and speak about it openly. Grateful to you for that and all your videos of course
Your honesty and authenticity is awesome. Thankyou Allie ❤
I love the nuance and complexity: it stands out from the CZcams crowd. It is a privilege to be able to review your past bucause you recorded it. I do it a lot from memory (whilst restless at 4am). I think we all lie to ourselves and others as a survival strategy and it's great to get stronger so we can face reality, as you are doing. A very refreshing and fluff free and well edited video ❤️
Girl 🙌. The fact that you can talk about this means your recovery is going well. We are all so proud of you
always love the fluff! Thank you so much for your vulnerability! & always give yourself love & grace! You're awesome, Allie :)
Wow, this is such a good video. Feels like a great explanation of how I felt when I was under feeding myself and how well I hid my challenges. I love your radical honesty, be well
I loved Allie back then, but I especially love current Allie who has so much light in her eyes and such a meaningful, important position as an advocate. The work you’re doing is so brave and so needed!
Thank you for your honesty and transparency Allie ❤ More people should do this 😊💪🏻💪🏻
Rooting for you!
Love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Wow girl, wow. You are phenomenal and YES to everything. WIEIAD videos are SO problematic and I love that you talked about the why behind this. Having come out of ED recovery too, I know exactly what headspace you were in when your ED was in control. SO FEW people talk about this
I always love your honesty, it does make you think about some of those what i eat videos. Hope your training is going great 😊
Thank you so much for this. Way to be honest and vulnerable. I’m currently in treatment for my ED for the second time. I have not been looking at any social media but opened CZcams for a hot sec and knew this would be worth watching. You are very inspiring. Hope your recovery continues to be solid🙏
I love this video, as someone who has also nearly recovered from an ED, I think you explained how it ignores your values very well, like how you're both disappointed but having grace for yourself. Keeping it real, and very much here for a bit more fluff 😂
Thank you for this video! I like how your channel is centered around body positivity and fueling properly - also, I like when your videos have extra fluff in them :)
I like fluff! And you've come such a long way, Allie. So proud of you!!
Appreciate you and your honesty so much!
Allie, I loved this video you are so authentic and honest about everything and that is an amazing quality to have :) I know exactly what you were talking about with the eating disorder having control over what you can and can't eat and how much exercise to do. I still struggle with this on a daily basis, but seeing how far you have come makes me want to keep fighting!! Loved this video :) much love
Thank you so much for sharing this video, Allie.
Thanks for watching!
So much good information on ED. Thank you for sharing. I have a ton of respect for you sharing everything as you progress on your recovery.
I appreciate that :)
Film editing has gotten alot better over the years!!! Love your channel and God bless you and your family Allie. Trials are right around the corner and I can't wait.
thank you! I'm so glad that people can notice how much work I've put into improving my editing game :)
Such a valuable and insightful video, thank you, from one experiencing the same
First of all, I think you're such an amazing athlete, and I super look up to you, and admire your strength and incredible endurance! But also, I think it's great that you are recognizing and working on your eating disorder!! I have experience with this and I know how hard it is to talk about. Good for you, and THANK you for always being helpful and thoughtful to others. I love your training videos, the uphill workouts, your distance running, SO inspiring!
Your honesty is ❤ Allie, I’m sure many on here can resonate with some, if not a lot of this video, across many ages. It’s not only the young athletes who struggle with an ED. You have opened up my eyes to my own disordered eating, and I’m 48! Keep on being your awesome and amazing self Allie, we ❤ you (from afar)!
Fascinating insight to ED & how controlling it is for an individual. Thanks for sharing x
Hi Allie happy Friday afternoon and congratulations on your 50k and you are grateful and you are amazing Supporter and I'm proud of you and I enjoy your channel
Wow. The honesty is incredible, and so, so impactful. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Allie, thanks for making this video, it must have been tough for you to rewatch but I'm so proud of you for how far you've come and just being honest with where you were at. Love you!!
thank you!
Thank you for being so honest, always
Really appreciated the honesty of this format
maybe I will have to do more videos like this!
Thanks for being open and honest. You are amazing.
I remember watching this video when it first came out. Glad you’re giving yourself grace. I’m sure it was difficult to watch this now knowing you were struggling back then. Thank you for your transparency. It’s been so inspirational to see your progress from then to now! 💗
It was hard, but also insightful and eye-opening. I had forgotten where I was at that point, so it feels good to know how far I've come :)
This is really eye-opening. Thank you for making it. It's also a really good GENERAL reminder that all is sometimes not as it seems on CZcams!
Yes, at the end of the day, people show the parts they want to!
Allie, you are such a great role model for all - this video is so eloquent, insightful and honest. Thank you for the content that you are putting out!
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much for your honesty and authenticity! It's genuinely inspiring to see you not just recovering and reflecting but also set a great example of what to do when you've grown and look back on your actions that you wouldn't do again. It's great to openly address it and show us a bit more of your healing! Take good care of yourself and stay salty 💕👍
thank you so much! Recovery is obviously super difficult, but I do appreciate the new perspective that it's given me :)
OMG, every thought that went through my mind as I lived for years with disordered eating. My type 1 diabetes was the perfect excuse for all of my disordered behaviours and helped me hide and justify everything. My life is so much fuller and better now after a wonderful psycholgist who specialized in type 1 clients.
Hey Allie,
As a 49 year old ex-runner, I wanted to tell you that you are an inspiration. Your joy in running, in spite of all the challenges that come with it, helped me remember how much I loved it. I appreciate your videos, especially as a father of two daughters with self-image issues. It takes a ton of courage and stength to be vulnerable and honest like you are. The ordeals you have been through make you wise well beyond your years, which is evident when you talk about your growth midset, your embrace of imperfection, and your recogniton that there is no such thing as "enough". I used to think if I just got that promotion or had a certain amount of money or achieved some feat in the gym it would be enough. It never is. All we have is our maker and each other to sustain us. I saw you at a run in the Seattle area recently and almost introduced myself, but was too star-struck (and didn't want to be a creep). Anyway, I will follow your running career with interest, but know that you have succeeded already far beyond any medal or PR time. Keep being awesome, keep being you.
Thank you for sharing this, because it's something I've honestly wondered about. The food looked (and looks) delicious and healthy and I was confused about the dichotomy of that and what you'd since said about your eating habits.
Very next level content 🙌🏻
Sending some compassion to Allie from the past ❤❤❤️🩹
🙌
Allie, you are amazing. Oh, how I wish your videos were available when I was going through my struggle with an eating disorder (but I'm old and youtube wasn't even available haha).
Thank you for owning it -- being authentic and vulnerable. You are helping so many people with these videos.
thank you for watching and appreciating what I do! Honestly, it means so much.
You are so brave! You are doing an amazing service by sharing your ED struggle. So glad that you are healing and keeping up the hard work.
Also: Full fluff, gurl!! We are here for it!
full fluff, love that haha
❤️ love your honesty
I really appreciate your honesty Allie. This resonates with me soooo much.I used to say I'd eaten a plate of this/ bowl of that...when in reality, I made it but only ate 1 tenth of what I prepared.Eating disorders are horrendous. They make us believe totally illogical things. All the best for your future Allie❤
Honest, insightful & cool video. Much respect & support for you, Allie O.
❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Don't mind the fluff a bit❤ Thanks for sharing this, Allie. We know how difficult this was for you and hopefully your continued advocating for ED will continue to bring awareness!
I love what you said about WIEIAD videos. They’ve been a source of my pain for a while.
if consuming that kind of content doesn't feel good, really try to avoid it!
@@allie_ostrander agreed I do try and avoid it
Allie, you’re awesome. You are healing and it’s a process. I had an eating disorder during high school and college and still struggle with food although now I struggle with being overweight.
Even my 80 year old mother still struggles with body image and an eating disorder. She dieted all her life and exercised like crazy. My coaches used to weigh us in front of everyone, criticise us and put us on diets if he thought we were too heavy.
eating disorders and body image are such a huge problem, especially among females. It's honestly become so normalized that a lot of people don't even realize that food guilt and the constant desire to change your body aren't normal :(
Finding wisdom can be challenging and complex. Kudos. !!! 🙂
Great video
You are really helping people here
I appreciate your videos so much
Outstanding positive self-awareness, Allie :-)
Wow your editing quality has increased dramatically. This was a fascinating video to watch. Thanks Allie for showing this
thank you! I certainly like to think so after watching this old vid haha
It helps educate us on how to eat to achieve proper gains. I really enjoy the videos you create showcasing what you eat in a day. It would be great to see you incorporate tips for those who only do short runs, as well as stretches before and after a run, especially for those of us who are new to running. I love running, but I'm new to it, and I want to encourage you not to be too hard on yourself. Even if you don't eat everything you mention, you're still educating those of us who are interested in knowing. The fact that you're still sharing valuable information is what truly matters. You're right that not eating properly can hinder your goals. The important thing is that you're making changes and striving for improvement. You don't have to be perfect; just do your best and take it one day at a time. That's what truly counts. Thank you for being real; there is nothing you should be ashamed of. We are all human, and no one is perfect. No matter how imperfect you may feel, you're perfectly imperfect just the way you are. You are loved by many in your family. Not only do those around you love you, but you also inspire so many people. Don't ever give up and keep pushing through because you're an encouragement for so many of us viewing your content. No matter how perfect or imperfect the editing is. That isn't what brings value to the video. Your experiances and your education and personality is what makes your videos golden.
Thank you. I have so much respect for what you did with this video
Allie, your courage to face these poor truths about your past are how you grow and mature as a human being. You are building a capacity within yourself that will stand you well no matter what. You don’t know me, yet hold in your heart the pride, respect and warmth myself and countless others ahead of you in age have for you. I only wish more were paying attention to your overall arc since the beginning. Well done my friend.🎉🎉🎉
I love the fluff! That dance was iconic. I’m not even a runner, I absolutely despise running. I watch your videos for your personality and authenticity. The running info is cool too, I’ve become a major fan of track and cross country from watching you but certainly am not going to go do it 😂
That was more like " What I should eat a day video". 😄 But this is really helpful and I appreciate your honesty!
There is so much lying when having an ED.
Thank you for sharing this! x
I love the fluff 😂❤
So nice to see how youve grown
I'm kinda loving that I'm watching this while eating pizza after racing a half marathon, LOL. In all seriousness, you're amazing for going back and being honest about it!
And if "fluff" includes more post-workout dance moves, I'm all for it!
I love this for you 👏👏👏
I love ❤ the fluff. I love more behind the scenes coverage.
what a nice video! happy to have found your channel.
so glad you are here!
I don’t watch a lot of CZcams, but I must say I’ve never seen anyone review one of their earlier videos. Just shows how much you’ve matured in such a short space of time. Love your work!
This is really brave of you!
I love your "fluff" hahah I'd love some longer videos!!
Noted!
I called for an IOP on Friday, partially because of you. I’m older and my body is done with it. Your transparency with this is a sign of active recovery. I’m sure you know this, how important honesty is when in recovery. Thanks, Allie O
Proud of you, way to take care of yourself and prioritize your health. And yes, honestly is so so important because it keeps me accountable!
I like fluff! Also really appreciate the take on WIEIAD videos which always make me a little nervous.
thank you! I definitely have a pretty good awareness of how inaccurate they likely are, but I still struggle to not compare myself.
I can feel sooo cheesy commenting on CZcams videos but seriously so inspired by your honesty. As a runner and recovering ED I related to all of this. LOVED what you said about how the disorder allows us to believe the rules of food apply to everyone else and not us- yesss. Also idk if you have a relationship with Jesus but feel like you’d crush it as an advocate for him. K love you bye
This is one of the greatest videos you ever made. I always thougt that all these "what-i-eat-a-day-videos" ( from other youtubers) are not the whole truth (i'm german, I'm sorry for mistakes). I love your videos!!!!!! I watch all!!!!
so many wisdom and gems! I unfollowed some athletes because they're disordered and trying to hide it, and not everybody can tell. But I love that you're bringing light to this, so many truths in this ideo.
Crushing grown-a$$ woman $hit! Reality and compassion, thank you for putting this out there.
You have grown so much. I don’t mean physically or age-wise. You’ve grown in recovery. Yes!
Just to show how different people can be in eating choices I've only had one cup of coffee in my entire life (75 yrs & counting)...but I do love to run and I can see that in you and your friends. That's my connection. Don't stop...keep going!
I respect that you are able to function without coffee! Impressive stuff!
@@allie_ostrander I was thinking about this a little bit more and wondered about the factor of my significant age difference and how different generations see and place themselves in an athletic venue. It further occurred to me that there is an excellent (IMO) book titled "Lore of Running" by Tim Noakes. Tim and I share the same birth year (1949) so I can view "Lore of Running" almost like it is a realtime diary of the world I grew up in. If you and your peers haven't already read it I highly recommend it. It has super interesting historical and scientific data in it that I think every athlete could benefit from. Don't flinch, but it's about 900 pages of reading. It took me a full week to read it, but it lit me up so I was totally into it and spent many many hours each day going through it.
Pretty much the only thing I drink is plain water. I worked in construction and had to stay hydrated. Only chilled plain water was ever satisfying, especially in the heat of summer days. it just became a regular habit and I haven't seen the down side of it. Best regards.
Allie beautifully done.
You are so important to the women running and to the women sport, Allie. Thank you so much.
