As a Army Drill Sergeant and someone who’s certified to give the ACFT this is what I have to say....first good for her for attempting it. Second she failed the entire ACFT, you fail an event you fail the whole thing. Thirdly she didn’t keep her back straight during push ups, she turned around while dragging which is a termination, she didn’t touch her elbows during the leg tucks, and there was too much time between events. Not her fault that she didn’t do the events correctly she just wasn’t properly informed how to do them.

I am 47 and i would also do very well on that test, some results would be maxed out and the others would be upper 75%. eg. i would probably do the 2 mile run in about 15 minutes and so on. Deadlift 220 lbs is really easy to be honest. I would most likely still pass the Ranger PFT.

Coming from an actual Army soldier, everything was done wrong. It wasn’t the right bar for the deadlift but that can slide I guess. The ball for the ball throw is supposed to be 10 lbs. The pushups were miscounted. Both hands must be on the rope at all times for the drag in the sprint drag carry and you can only back pedal. And for the leg tucks, both knees must touch your elbows. And I don’t know how accurate the 2 mile was. We usually just run 8 laps on an actual track. And you forgot to add her 36 push-ups to the total score

She also needs to have her fingers and thumbs extended and joined during those HRPs. And that ball is not the authorized ball for the ACFT. The Drills would've stopped her pushups at 18 when she started arching her back, that is unauthorized and can be counted against you. At 3:46 he says "32" then he skipped to 43 in the next second... For the SDC she is supposed to start in the "down" position of the t pushup. Not prepped and ready to run.. on the side shuffle she switched sides, that is unauthorized. Also, after the third leg tuck she never touched her knees to her elbows, automatic failure.
I know y'all are Marines and you're not used to the ACFT, but I also heard you reciting the actual regulations which sort of eliminates that excuse... why do you need to cheat and give her more points on these events than she actually got? Furthermore, if you wanted her to take the real ACFT you would follow these regulations as they were put in place for a reason. Not trying to be a drill but come on! Do it right! Hey Austen, great video and excellent content. Btw I’m in the Army Reserves, I’ve taken the ACFT countless times and just here to note some small errors in the ACFT presented in this vid. 1(Deadlift) it’s not just about lifting the weight but also controlling it on the way down (don’t drop the weight, many soldiers have failed this test due to that (hex bar recommended but optional)). 2(T Push Ups) Always maintain a straight body (move your body as a single unit). 3(Power Throw) Try to use a smaller medicine ball (have a person actually mark where the ball lands while you grade her). 4(Drag,Sprint,Carry) PLEASE don’t drag the sled with one arm in front of the other because it won’t count, when carrying the kettle bells don’t just drop them because that also won’t count (drop them to where the kettle bells are still standing upright). 5(Leg Tuck) Overall it’s the most common exercise that many soldiers fail but just make sure through every rep BOTH elbows and knees touch together. Overall I think the marine passed, gave this a 👍🏽. Hope this becomes helpful. If you need any examples of the ACFT just search them up on CZcams (there’s a lot of them).

    3) Dead Lift is done with a different bar. Yours was way harder. 155lbs is actually 62 points not 60
    4) Sprint Drag Carry... During the drag, the weight is actually on a sled, She got really screwed there. And she's not actually allowed to turn around at all. She would have passed with weights on the sled.
    5) Left tuck... She only touched her knees to her elbows ( both at same time ) a couple of times. I will give her 3 so that would be
    6) Push up 30 is 70 points ( your counting was way off!!! lololol

The female corporal take in the army combat physical fitness test did a great job. Although I do have to make one correction, she did not pass the ACFT as she failed the sprint drag carry (The maximum time to complete it is three minutes.) you have to pass all the events in order to get a GO. I was really impressed she ran 2 miles as fast as she did because after the sprint drag carry your legs are totally smoked. Overall she did a great job for someone who has never taken that test before nor practiced. Again, great job Corporal.

Sprint drag carry starts in the prone position, almost no rest when transitioning between the first 5 events then 10min rest before 2-mile run. • @IAmTheRealBill
      @IAmTheRealBill Před 3 lety +9

I disagree with the assertion of it being a better assessment of fitness.
      1. That overhead throw is not a measure of physical fitness. No only from the physical aspect but from the fitness for duty. That activity is not only something you don't do, but something you should almost never be doing.
      2. The hanging curls are a measure of various competing strength maneuvers, not fitness. That isn't terrible, but there are some inbuilt reasons why that type of testing was removed. First, it is biased toward lower body weight, but particularly for physically demanding MOSes you need more body weight due to the increased muscle requirement. Second it is primarily dependent on *static* grip strength, rather than dynamic. Again that isn't physical fitness. Even a rope climb is better than this because it is a dynamic grip strength event. Regarding physical activities, static grip strength is quite rare. When you need grip strength it is almost always dynamic.
      3. Deadlift does not measure fitness but strength in lifting heavy objects. Certainly applicable in terms of capability, but not in physical fitness. In order to get into that territory it would need be a lower weight with higher reps. But that aside, those weight targets don't make sense given military guidelines/restrictions on what constitutes a "2 person lift." They are having you lift more than you are officially allowed to lift on your own. Furthermore, this pushes training to a more powerlifter weight training to be able to even know what range your 3RM is, let alone how to do it. This is not an event that you can just do general fitness training for and walk into.
Side note on that last sentence: the point of a general physical fitness test is that it is general, not that it requires very specific training.
If they really wanted to test physical fitness they would not be doing the test this way. Instead they'd be doing things like heart rate monitoring during the run to check for things such as hart rate variability, how quickly the HR recovers post-run, and how high the HR gets and for how long. This would give an objective measurement of cardiovascular fitness. There are similar things that can be done for aerobic capacity.
A key problem here is fundamental. They are trying to make a "one size fits all", not look like they are lowering standards, and not look like are intentionally setting a bar women can't handle. That is a recipe for failure. Instead, they should use something more like the older one (2min setups, 2min pushups, 2mi run) as the general, but have an additional one per-MOS where you can develop proper criteria for what the job entails.
Of course, that means that certain jobs will have significantly higher difficulty to pass their fitness test, for obvious reasons. However, that would also mean the some of those would in the aggregate be more often failed by women, and that would look bad.
That the test is having a "high" failure rate does not mean it is a failure. That it fails to test what it alleges to, that it fails to represent activity while representing itself as doing so, and that it actually pushes training for it away from effective specialty training and into a cross-fit gym, that it it makes it look intentionally biased due to the much higher failure rate among women, these are why it is a failure.

Truth of the matter... the old Marine Corps PFT from my day (90s) is far more challenging in grading stamina and cardio. By design, it also allowed participants to gradually build strength so that each individual Marine could max out more efficiently. The Marine Corps used to allow kip on pullups but it was left up to each individual unit standard. 1/6 Hard didn't allow the kip for actual PFTs. You maxed out period. It was scored on a 300 pt system and my max was 275. It wasn't a surprise that most Marines could bust out an 18 - 23 minute 3 mile run on any given day. I knew a Chief WO who did a 300+ PFT with a 14 min flat 3 mile run. Dude was Superman.
