Mine are 25 years old and 13 years old, both are Fords (Crown Victoria) and both have been awesome vehicles. New vehicles... many of them are simply overpriced garbage cans on wheels. Too much electonic/gimmick crap in them that causes major headaches, low quality on the rest of the build and the situation is what it is now. People want all these gizmo's in their vehicles and want more and more. They pay for this crap and accept it. Want the manufacturers to change their course? Stop buying their junk.

The customer satisfaction surveys I sent in after getting warranty repairs just about put that dealer out of business. If anyone is thinking about buying an F150, I would highly recommend you look at the base F250 with the gas engine as well. It has a regular push rod motor paired with the 6 speed trans (Not the 10 speed). The last few I saw come through the dealer I work for all had window stickers for under 40k. Yes, you'll pay more in gas, but I would take that any day over a bunch of complicated systems on the 150. Also, base models aren't that base anymore. You'll still get AC, power windows, something more than an AM radio, etc... Its a very underrated vehicle.

Hey Brian, great overview on the little issues you've seen. I'm in the exact same boat as you, the quality on my 21 F150 was solid and no issues, as soon as I got my 23, lots of little things all over here and there, oh and not to mention a turbo already locked up at 1500 miles... but got that sorted already thanks to my dealer and they were as stumped as I was trying to diagnose it. On the window noise flapping issue in particular, since of course my new one has the same issue, it is the exterior weather stripping on the on the rear of the front windows. Go look and see how much it moves in and out when the window is up, even blow so air at it and you can make it hum. I resolved mine in the meantime with some foam in the channel to tighten it up, but the main issue is something with the exterior B pillar trim piece, to bows out too much now which then doesn't push the weatherstripping against the window enough. Funny enough, I wandered around the dealer lot and seems every 22+ model has the same issue, everyting 21 and older was nice and tight.

It's really disappointing to see the quality challenges Ford is having. I'm sure they knew about some of these in development but it seems their quest to cut cost took priority over getting it right. I've been nothing but a loyal Ford owner my entire life (driving since '92) and hope to remain so in the future. Currently own a '14 F-150 Screw FX4 3.5 Eco which has over 200K and has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. It has needed nothing except tires, brakes and maintenance. We also have a '20 Explorer ST which has 60K and is the worst vehicle I've ever owned. It has every quality problem in the book - broken cats, noisy exhaust rattle, glitchy infotainment, failed backup camera, peeling window buttons, broken plastic trim. The vehicle has so much potential (400HP from a 3.0L is amazing) but I've come to hate driving it. The only reason I haven't gotten rid of it is that I don't know what I could get to replace it that wouldn't be as big (or worse) of a problem. I also have a '22 F-150 Screw Lariat 4x4 3.5 Eco for my company vehicle and it has been solid for almost 30K, although it does have some open recalls (wiper motor, headlamps) that I need to find time to get scheduled...

Not surprising in the least, I deliver parts to the plants, Ford Dearborn Assembly is one of them... I would not buy one. Any of these new cars, they are a mess of electronics and poor engineering. I would say most will be a nightmare after the warranty runs out, most folks will not be able to afford to repair them.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq Před 8 měsíci +7

You still have the water leaks to look forward to. Since it looks like you're about out of warranty, I'll give you some info that may save you a lot of money. Anytime you do anything with the battery, the trim has to be installed perfectly. If you look at the bottom of the windshield, you'll see the trim doesn't overlap with the glass,
it butts up against the bottom of the windshield, and everything has to be perfectly flush. If not, water will get through the gap in the trim and run down the firewall. This normally wouldn't be a big deal, but Ford put the fresh air hole in the firewall for the hvac system directly under the piece of trim you remove to access the battery. Again, that wouldn't be too big of a deal if they did something to channel the water. They didn't. When you remove the battery, you get a nice clear view of the carpet on the RF floor. Before you know it, you'll have 3-6 inches of water in the car. We call it the swimming pool option. If it was my vehicle, I would just make something simple up to channel the water from going inn the hole. If you go to home depot you can get the metal tape that you sometimes use on roof's. (For a house). You can make something up with just that tape and you'll be OK. Ford has already approved its use for similar issues on the F150's firewall.
You also need to keep an eye on your roof. For your vehicle, they came up with a new design for the roof rails. Instead of doing like they always do and put everything you need to deal with the roof rails on top of the car, instead they drilled 6 holes through the roof, on both sides of the car, and bolted the rails on from the bottom up. Again, not a very smart thing to do, but it wouldn't be such a big deal if they bothered to seal the holes. They put this little, tiny wisp of paper thin foam that's used to protect the paint from getting scratched, and thought that was good enough. The only way to access these bolts is to drop the headliner. Just keep checking it on a regular basis to make sure its not wet. They're expensive and a lot of labor is involved to replace them. If you catch it early, it can be saved.
I don't like to tell people what to do, but in my opinion as a Ford tech, extended warranty is mandatory. I do a lot of heavy line/expensive warranty jobs, and if you can't afford to self insure, the extended warranty saves peoples asses on big repairs. I see it every day. I'm sure I just made your afternoon.

I was finished with Ford when my explore 4 L engine decided to self destruct due to cheaply made timing chain components and all I could do was scrap a perfectly good vehicle otherwise. I am a mechanic by trade and could have fixed this motor if it had a decent design but since it had a timing chain on the back of the right cylinder head the complete motor had to be removed from the car to access the timing chain components and there’s no timing chain marks on this motor so you have to purchase all the special tools to align the camshaft and crankshaft. When you are doing mechanic work you have to pick your battles wisely and this is one I knew I couldn’t win

I also thought that wasn't bad. Compared to similar videos of other manufacturers, these are very minor in nature to some being suspect buyer issue. Look up Rivian quality issues and if you do Tesla, you're lucky if its not raining in your car weatherstripping, not, a little flapping if you are going 90 miles an hour with the window at a specific height. Sorry, I don't buy the paint chip and dent in the door blame. When ever I buy a new vehicle, I do a thorough viewing before taking it off the lot. If you want to blame the manufacture and dealer for missing it, then I put ten times more blame on the buyer for missing it because all you have is one car to inspect. The rock chip in the bumper could have easily happened while leaving the dealership. Ford will do the right thing and fix it anyways but to make a video about it as a quality issue just sounds like childish whining to me.

My 21 Limited Powerboost had a bunch of small quality problems. One of them that really drove me crazy was there was a big blob of seam sealer that made it onto the cab between the back glass and the opening of the rear window and Ford just painted over it. Also, there were spots on the driver side, rear door and front door that were missing color and they just simply clearcoated over it. They found the problem later and just put touch of paint over it. Then there was the rear door panel that scraped the weather seal damaging it every time you opened the door. The twin panel roof had a gasket between the roof and the sunroof that was folded inside creating an ugly aesthetic. I suspected they’d have to remove the roof in order to pull the gasket out and put it back into place. And of course there was all the recalls that came with the truck. I decided to sell it and thankfully due to the crazy high market I made about $4200 on it. I bought a Chevy truck last December and it has none of these problems. Ford has tons of issues and I won’t purchase another one until they fix their quality issues. I have a 2010 Fusion Sport that I bought from a friend that has 273,000 miles on it and it works great.

This should have been a hybrid type design with a small 3 cylinder diesel or 1.6l gas engine running a generator to charge multiple banks of batteries at once. I don’t like the idea that this truck can not just go across country without major issues with planning of time to charge and finding suitable charging stations!!!

Liberals no longer accept hybrids they are dedicated to removing the internal combustion engine entirely. Well, except in limos, airplanes, jet engines in jets, cargo ships, yachts, millions of boats, rocket engines in space x rockets, construction equipment, trains and motorsports racing. Other than that, they want to be carbon free in the next I'm not sure how long. They say we must do this in less than 6 years but that's already impossible. Al Gore said in 1999 we had 12 years to "fix this." So I have no idea but only motor vehicles are on the chopping block. Most of the other things don't even have pollution controls and that's AOK. But hybrids are not acceptable anymore. 7 states have already said it will be illegal to sell a new fuel powered vehicle starting in 2035. That would include hybrids.

I had a 2021 f150 that spent way too much time in the shop. Lots of electrical/software problems. driveshaft replaced due to the heat shiels rubbing on it which was upsetting due to telling the dealer there was a rattle starting at 4k miles. They didn't replace it until the item was recalled. The intelligent cruise worked part time, the head unit would just shut off and to top it off the truck locked me out one time and then wouldn't start without putting the key in the slot under the cup holder. To top it off the 10 speed downshited so hard while slowing down you'd swear you got rear ended. Ended up getting rid of it when the bumper to bumper was up.

Good on you that it's only a lease. Still a sharp looking truck, though !

I've heard that replacing that extended range battery costs $37,000.
If that's true I wonder what kind of resale value this truck would have at the 6 or 7 year point?

I can hardly believe that is a $90,000.00 vehicle. The drive train and electric system may be what costs so much to manufacture I would guess but have my doubts. I'd like to see how this truck has held up in 2-5 years. The interior looks cheap at least in the video. And my first thought on the trunk had been exactly what you described. For what they want that should reek of quality. This truck should be immaculate in every way for 90k.

Hate to say it but your mentioning refined or the lack thereof, really rings true. That striker bar looks like something off of a lawnmower.

That spray in liner is trash… my 19 superduty had to have it it repaired 2x already. Just peels off

I have the same window seal problem with my 2023 Tremor F150. Ford Canada told the dealership that it’s a characteristic of the F150 and they do not have a fix for it at this time. Brutal.

Like I've been saying for years they don't make cars and trucks like they used to! I love my old 2000 Ford excursion still going strong! 200000 miles Everything still works!

This is silly. T is built better by a non-union workforce and updates over the WiFI in my garage. The largest issue I had was converting a 30A 240 outlet from a dryer to the wall charger. Still...nothing i ever see makes me want to buy a ICE vehicle newer than 2010.

Not saying it's an awful car but adjusting panel gaps shouldn't be part of new car ownership.

@@zaffo757 I've had a 2014 Raptor that has been essentially issue free for close to a decade now. Just normal maintenance. My Tesla goes to the shop at least every 4 to 6 months.
Even with that said I really like. Works great, charging costs nothing, quick as can be... fits in parking garages!
