@@carolray9156 You can NOT put children to death. They are nowhere near developed like adults. It is absolutely horrific but that is not the solution. A mental facility for life is a better place. The last child they executed was in the 1930's in the electric chair and they barely had any evidence. Race was clearly a factor in that and how quickly he was arrested and put to death. The death penalty is outdated especially given how many people are falsely convicted. It belongs in the past. They can't commit murder but we as society can for punishment? That makes us as bad as killers. It also costs more to put a person to death overall than to just give them life without parole. Thou Shalt Not Kill....no exceptions listed and just a general rule to go by for the non religious.

You would think but who knows what their young brains were thinking or what those boys had experienced in their lives. They certainly needed to do extensive psych evaluations and investigate their family life. They would still need to be locked up but knowing why for sure and what they understood is important. Kids do kill and we really need to figure out why this is happening and more often. Then maybe things can be done to prevent tragedies like this and many others.

Agree. Some people just can't be changed no matter how much you believe they will change for the better or learn their lessons because once they commit crimes so heinous they're no longer deserving to be called human beings but heartless monsters since they don't feel compassion nor remorse for what they did. Those people are the reasons why i believe in death penalty.

Robert Thompson made use of every opportunity provided to him in custody, and effectively vanished after he served his sentence. He probably hasn't told a soul about his past, holds down a job, keeps to himself. Venables is the more tragic of the two. The reason he keeps getting in trouble is because he tries to unburden himself. He gets drunk and tells people his real identity. I guess one might say, the system has a 50% success rate in this case, if we want to talk about rehabilitation.

So many questions here....what kind of family environment did Thompson and Venables came from? Why where skipping School? Where their parents ever held accountable for not parenting their children?

Its a shame that someone who knows the killers new identity ,won't let the world know who they are now ,so real justice can be served. They were given new ID's and a new life yet they still continued to break the law.

These criminals were already grown up at that time and sure they know what they are doing. In the Philippines you can’t do this. They would kill you.

This case has stuck with me since it happened. The fact too that Jon Venables has been in trouble again despite his change of name and location says more about him in terms of his intent, than it does anything else. The cold blooded intent to take any child off the street and do ill intent shows these two had no compunction about killing a defenseless child. The strength of Denise to be able to live on despite the horrendous thing done to her baby is testament to who she is. A survivor. She reminds me a lot of Doris Tate, mother of Sharon Tate murdered by the Manson gang.

i see comments like that all the time! even for the west memphis 3 that teens could never do this...i use james bulger, mary bell, and shanda sharer stories as examples but james is my ultimate example... having criminal mentality at only 10...
