- Unforgiven: The Boys Who Killed A Child (Jamie Bulger Documentary) | Real Stories
This powerful and disturbing documentary covers the outcry approaching the release of Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, the two 10 year old boys who killed 2 year-old James Bulger in 1993. Re-telling the tragedy, the film presents the protests against their release from an institution, delves into the backgrounds of the killers, their terrible violent act and the impact it caused in UK. It also explores claims that their punishment has been a sham, as reporter Deborah Davies investigates how inmates at secure units are treated and interviews experts to learn whether eight years has been sufficient time to successfully rehabilitate the pair.

Yea, it was very heartbreaking.
What about james
They shouldnt be allowed out james cajt
I pictured that in my head, that poor baby! I can’t. And what’s wrong with me that I’d like to see those two boys get the same thing? This entire tragedy is horrendous. The parents, ALL of them. It’s just sickening
A ten year old saying " he wouldn't stay down " is chilling
So hard to believe it is nearly 30 ago years this happened.
Doesn't matter how if they were kids or not what they did to James was beyond evil
My brother was the same age as James Bulger at the time and, is also called James.
Watching the effect it had on my mother was heartbreaking, so I cannot imagine how James’s parents must’ve felt 💔Devastating! X

@@Mina.15 gotta remember that they were kids. Adults don't think kids could do such horrific things. If it was two old men dragging around a little boy it would of been different. I don't completely blame the witnesses but at the same time it could of been so easily avoided.

30 people did NOTHING when they saw children dragging a bloodied baby through the street?! Woah, scary stuff all around
Ryan Marshall ikr!!
whern me and my sister were little we were out with our little brother while our mum and stepdad/little brothers dad were out and just outside our house my brother fell and started SCREAMING his head off and my sister had previously broken her aerm and noticed his arm was broken and people including a next door neighbour, walked straight past us just staring, no one asked why he was screaming or offered to help when my sister said his arm was broken!
If I saw it, I would've thought the child fell over and the boys were rushing him home to his mother or something. You'd feel prtty guity. Still, does not one of the thirty adults who sighted them have any sense of responsibility?
You shouldn't blame the witnesses. Even Ralph Bulger in his book states that they probably hold a huge amount of guilt for not interfering but they shouldn't at all. There could be a million reasons why the child was bloody and walking with two older boys. Not everybody would assume they were about to murder him or he was in any danger being with them.
it was literally mentioned in this video he was being walked through the streets with the boys whilst crying and having visible blood on his head...... so yes he was bloodied.
Both parents did nothing when their 10 year old boys are just out roaming sometimes until midnight. I would say they were very bad parents.
Carolyn Jonas agreed!
Agreed
Carolyn Jonas how so? Are they not allowed to sleep? Good parents can have bad children, just like bad parents can have good children. Smfh

Easy to say in hindsight, they told one passer by that it was there brother. Who knows what you would have done
@@jamiejosh96 I agree, hindsight is always 20/20 - but even if they said they were brothers, that means there's three underage children without an adult wondering alone while one is bleeding and hurt, in another world if they were normal older boys and he really was their brother then they would need help as well to find their way home or to a hospital to help their "brother", ya know? But again I agree, its always easy to find what went wrong after everything has already happened

@Chance Chanel Exactly. "Social services" is an advanced society's "CYA" (Cover Your A$$) department. Its to make a nation look like they care about the most vulnerable in their society so everyone can ignore what's going on in their own neighborhood. Then everyone gets to avoid accountability. I know-I've worked with agencies like that. Where were all those indignant adults screaming for blood when those two boys were walking on a public street with a bleeding 2 year old? His name and identity doesn't get changed.
People turn up to his house and they actually kill him.
You'll have the people that kill him in court.
They're going to jail for murder.
That what you want?
Should the people that killed him be excused and pardoned because "they did a great thing for society?"
Does that mean other people can go around killing previously convicted people?
Will all of them be pardoned for being a good part of society?
Would that make people prone to being accused, falsely convicted and getting killed?

He’s also out of jail living a normal life and he’s married to a man. Idk if it’s true but every update I read says he’s now dating a man so that’s all I can assume.
There was a similar case happened in Norway, and the victim 5-year-old Silje Redergard, was killed by two 6-year-old boys. They went back to school and continued to lead normal lives, and were never named in the press. Obviously there are differences between James Bugler’s case and the one in Norway, with there being 4 year age gaps between the killers, and that the ones in Norway already knew their victim. Thankfully, these cases are incredibly rare, and when they happen, they can be completely shocking and remembered for decades. I’m pretty sure even in 200 years time, people will still be talking about the James Bulger case due to the shocking nature of it.
My blood is boiling.. it’s the first time I’ve heard this and it’s as raw now to me as I imagine it is for those when this happened. It’s a wicked crawl world we live in.. god rest your soul little man x
This truly broke my heart..
When he said "He just kept getting back up".. I can just picture James getting up crying and confused, not knowing why they are hurting him and that he's dying. Each time reaching out his arms like little kids do when they want to be held and for help. Makes me sick to my stomach how scared he must have been and how brutal and painful his final moments of his short little life were. As a mum myself it is gut wrenching knowing that your baby would have been looking around everywhere for you and the fear he must have felt.

The fact that both parents were more worried about getting social services involved than about finding their sons who were God knows where in the middle of the night says so much about their shameful incompetence.
No one can say for sure yet, little research has been done, but most of these stores seem to begin with poor decisions/impulse made in the home.
@@hairyheartsmith8513 The Common both boys had was a turbulent childhoods at home complete with alcoholism, divorcing parents, financial issues with the one boy who had a parent and other family members who were mentally impaired at birth (sounds like genetic fault as it was passed down through the generations unfortunately). Both boys were outsiders in the classroom unable & failing, which brought out the school bullies who basically ran them out of the school with physical assaults and emotional abuse. It sounds these kids were treated as ‘throw away’ children; they had no one in their corner who was actively trying to help & guide in life like a parent is supposed to do that with them to encourage them with positive reinforcement & LOVE... but even knowing all of the above, I believe one of the boys is a true psychopath the other a follower with also deep mental health issues. @@kyaos_Meteor because for one thing, privacy is an extremely important human survival tool - a defence mechanism against harm and cumulative stress caused by "exposure" (which is consistently touted as a "good" thing, in spite of the undeniable, and pure negativity it brings with it).
Civilization fought for centuries for the right to have its privacy - it wasn't striven for by accident, it was done to protect people from unfair preconceptions (and therefore unexpected harmful consequences), from others.
Nobody ever *needs* to reveal anything about their lives to anyone else - under any circumstances.
The responsibility for potential spouses etc. to ensure their own wellbeing, is their own, their family's, the community's, the nation's, the world's - GOD's.
Society used to be able to manage that in a more tangible - and VASTLY less offensive fashion - than it does today.
It was more passively incorporated into the fabric of society, rather than targeted [AT] a specific individual, so that everyone was able to positively benefit.
Ironically, it's possible that James Bulger might actually have been spared, had mechanisms that _used_ to be at work within society's comprehensively protective ethos, actually continued to maintain its status quo.
This whole thing might never have ever happened.

Ye
Venables has re-offended four times since release and been jailed twice for possessing child p**n images, so the rehabilitation obviously didn't work for him. Thompson on the other hand has not re-offended and has apparently now settled into a relatively normal life.
It's such a difficult situation, they were only kids themselves at 10yrs old, so trying to rehabilitate them is understandable, but it certainly doesn't feel like justice for poor James and his parents. Being put into care for 8yrs and them having all the attention and care they didn't get at home wasn't a punishment, it was better than the life they were living before. They should have gone through rehabilitation as children and then been imprisoned for the rest of their lives as adults.
venables is up for parole hearing next month
There was a vaguely similar case in the middle of Norway. The dead child's mother bumps into the killer at the shops. There, the child became the responsibility of the child protection services. I don't think there was a custodial sentence at all, but no one would considered the child was somehow 'spoiled' by having access to certain experiences. This aspect seems to be something the British tabloids (who are a questionable moral compass at the best of times - in a word, Milly Dowler) seem obsessed about along with the 'born evil' narrative. It serves an interest that they don't have to acknowledge ingrained poverty and neglect. I have no idea how 10 year olds could be roaming the streets at night with no parent to look after them or why a child with a bloodied head would be ignored by adults. They seems like neglected messed-up kids acting out, with no adult willing or able to put a functional boundary in their way. One is clearly more disturbed than the other, crossing a line they couldn't come back from. Unfortunately, it's all too easy to imagine how this stuff happens. I've worked with kids and when you see a five your old who is depressed because he knows his mother doesn't love him, and whose choice of boyfriends puts him at risk, it doesn't make him into a nice person. The behaviours they noted, I've seen myself. The hiding under tables and random violence. It's as tragic that immature 10 year old boys that look like 8 year olds can end up killing a toddler. The act of killing is evil. Saying they were evil 'just because' isn't much of an explanation.
It’s sickening that, that many people saw a bleeding two year old with young boys and he was crying and no one tried to help. They are just as guilty
Yeh, that's even worse. Adults should know better. A grown up could have stopped this.

no you misunderstood. he snuck out of school (without her knowledge) and then stayed out till midnight. she tried to find him but was unable to. but still bad parenting on her part...like where is the punishment etc!??!
@sam w what was the town like
I wouldn't explicitly blame the murder on the parents. Some people are simply screwed in the head regardless of their upbringing. There are hundreds if not thousands of juvenile delinquents and they don't go around killing toddlers - at least this is the first (and I sincerely hope the only) case I heard of. While they have been neglected this is not a "normal" or typical criminal behaviour, n'or does it have anything to do with gang violence. I would think that even if they never skipped a school day they'd still would have hurt someone. It's the nature of the beast, as they say.

So you can get longer jail time for selling weed than torturing and murdering a child, this county's mental
Yes, because the law in many cases protects children. I imagine if these two 10 year olds were selling weed they'd get no jail time at all. But it's possible that an adult may get a more severe punishment for selling weed, than a kid gets for murder, it depends on many factors such as: kid's age, method of murder and also whether you're selling 5 grams or 5 tonnes of weed.
No jail time whatsoever for these two. They spent eight years in a children's home with locked doors (that I was at myself two years prior) laughingly called a secure unit
