Oxford university was founded before America was. 😆 Est. Established between 1249 and 1264, with evidence pointing to being a place of education in 1096. Second in UK is Cambridge in 1209. Al gained a masters in History. He also does some very good serious stuff.

Ha I was chuckling from the intro " Oxford the UK's equivalent of Harvard or Yale, or even older I think " Given Oxford is the oldest university in the english speaking world, founded in 1096. I think we can say Harvard and Yale are the USA's version of Oxford and Cambridge. Keep up with Al, he has a lot of good stuff out there. Oxford University in England is the oldest English speaking University in the world. It was established in 1096...roughly 600 years before America's oldest University, Harvard.
Oxford University is the second oldest University in the world after The University of Bologna in Italy which was established 7 years before Oxford.
Al's Direct family is older than the foundation of America;

A descendant of the novelist William Makepeace Thackeray,(vanity Fair) his grandfather was the former British ambassador Sir Ralph Murray,was from Scottish aristocracy and married into the Kuenberg family, Imperial Count of the Holy Roman Empire.
His patrilineal great-great-grandfather, George Murray, was Bishop of Rochester, while Sir Edward Leigh MP is his third cousin.
I realise what a good example of the euro situation that was when I think of how difficult it would be for each person in that front row to get their correct amount of money BACK

The EU's 7-year budget they're about a year into is 2/3 new debt and a year in they've "lost" €10 billion, which seems to happen each year... Their own auditors have created an "unknown" category for expenditure and they've not been successfully audited externally in decades...
Any business with this record would have been shutdown and it's executives imprisoned, but the EU treaties specifically exempt agents and executives from any external investigation never mind accountability.
They are actually responsible to themselves - themselves being the EU Commission who coincidentally make all the decision, enact the daily running of the EU and pass down edicts, judgement's (their court the ECJ is tasked with upholding the political doctrine not justice) and regulation each member cannot refuse, delay or even question without significant sanction. Look at Poland fined €1 million A DAY for non-compliance because they won't bend a knee to the EU over their own judicial system.
You will not hear criticism of the EU on mainstream media because their funded or influenced through other agencies they fund. Science, technology, education and media are the weak spots they focus on, when the UK was a member we NEVER got anything that wasn't ours in the first place, they just returned a portion, but it came with strings attached most notably the need to promote the EU as a positive force to actually get any money back - which is incidentally why the younger generation has been indoctrinated to believe the UK didn't exist before the EU and the EU is older than 30 years old... You'll hear funding suspension and threats against it creep out in stories from time to time, they threaten funding or "withhold" monies due to these countries until they comply with every stipulation and regulation, without arguement, discussion or debate.

Yes, Al Murray went to Oxford, and Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire. Oxford was established in 1096. an the Empire started in 1428.
Al’s an accomplished WWII historian when he’s not making people laugh. Sometimes he does both at once. 🙂

It's quite simple, Greece doesn't pay Tax .United Kingdom and Germany made up the difference, Now the UK is out ,Germany has pick up the full tax burden, The German people are saying hold on . Make the Greeks pay tax ,Not build a villa or buy a yacht.
so very true fella, just as one Example was the discrepancy in the property tax and Swimming pools registered in Athens itself,the discrepancy used to be Enormous with about 90% of the thousands of pools not declared at one point in time

The joke about the French is due to WWii. On a veterans site,.you will often see comments like, "garlic-eating surrender monkeys".
There are tens of countries in Europe. Around half of them are in the Europeam union. And several countries within EU don't use the Euro.
