When Al said the British invented gravity, he was referring to Sir Isaac Newton, who formulated (amongst many other things) the Laws of Universal Gravitation back in the 17th Century - supposedly after an apple fell on his head from a tree. The further you back in time with bloodlines...the more people are related to the same people...like if you go back just 5 generations you have 128 Grt Grandparents..Go back 10...you have 4,096 Grt Grandparents...go back 20 you have 1,048,576 Grt Grandparents..Then imagine they had say just 2 kids, that's 2,097,152...Then those kid had 2 kids each..Now you get the idea....You can see that many many people can claim to be related to the same people in history in someway or another...And many can trace lines back to the days of William The Conqueror....if you connect to Royal blood lines...Because those bloodlines are the ones more likely to have been recorded....so makes for tracing such lines back somewhat easier as such...It's still fun to know...even if it's so way back many can claim the same.

A seriously clever man who has chosen a career as a comedian with the persona of a pub landlord always with a pint of beer in his hand (which is actually a non-alcoholic substitute). He always comes across as belligerent but that is just THE ACT. Please don't watch reactionary comedy if it upsets you because you just don't get the humour. It's really important to know this beforehand.
Having lived in London for 26 years, I have met plenty of characters who are just like him and for me, his character was instantly recognisable as typically working class, good humoured, slightly racist and old school little Englander.
It's a Brilliant portrayal, but only if you know who he is portraying.

His comment about gravity is similar to Britain being in charge of time all over the world. Greenwich in London is the setting for 0 degrees longitude, every 15 degrees east or west is one hour in front or behind Greenwich Mean Time. So New York, which is at 74 degrees west is almost 5 hours behind the UK ( actually 4 hours 56 minutes) so 2pm in London is only 9am in NY.

@@seancampbell9896 wiki says : The series was promoted and referred to as "The Championship of the United States",[3][4] "World's Championship Series", or "World's Series" for short. In his book Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883, Simon Winchester mentions in passing that the World Series was named for the New York World newspaper,[5] but this view is disputed.[6]

“The point is this” is his stalling and narrative flip strategy but it is also to do with the character he plays. The pub landlord is a character that is a rambling, over-opinionated, misogynistic and nationalistic man who loves to hear his own voice, but doesn’t really have much to say beyond his own opinions. The point is, there is no point. People like that rarely have one.
Al Murray himself is super intelligent and articulate and doesn’t share the views of the landlord he is creating the parody of. He does some good stand up just as himself, which is a bit faster too.
