    The biggest issue I've found during voting in the US is the amount of gerrymandering that occurs. The party in the state with the most authority will alter the districts in ways to make sure the other party's strongest districts are broken and has a stronger representation of the party in power. It means the representation of the state is significantly altered in one party's favor.

    Being a guy from Communism country, this kind of system really confused me a lot. Therefore, I want to ask some questions. First of all, by viewing this video, it gives me a feeling that none of the voting counts: not the senators, not the people, not the popular vote, but the "electors" who decides who is the presidents in this country. Second, are they (electors) going to stand out and saying that "I'm going to Vote President Obama" to the people in that State. Therefore, people in that states would vote for him (electors)? In conclusion, does the U.S. presidential candidates like Obama and Romney needs to have a strong connections with the electors? for example, spending a lot of grey money on whom they can help them win the election. Please answer my question I'm really curious.

    • @inkey2
      @inkey2 Před 9 lety

      Hong......In a way the popular vote does count because which ever candidate wins the popular vote in any state wins all the "Electoral Votes (or electors) of that state. The "electors" are required to honestly turn in their vote. There has been a few times in U S history where an elector has gone against his oath. (When they do that they are known a a "faithless elector") but those situations were resolved and didn't effect the outcome of the elections. Being a "faithless elector" is probably illegal although I have never heard of a faithless elector being arrested or jailed.

      (I could be wrong.) I would assume the electoral candidates for each state are wealthy.If you live in a mostly republican state (example Texas), chances are your state choice and electoral votes will be the republican candidate. So if you're a democrat living in a republican state, Most likely, your vote won't really matter. Now, lets say for example: Californians majority votes Hillary. 29 out of 55 electoral votes disregards the majority and votes trump. Well, Trump wins that state. Yet again, who you voted for doesn't really matter because the electors disregarded the state and chose for themselves. The state is suppose to help them choose who to vote for, but that doesn't mean they have too. Florida is considered a swing state because they can literally sway either way. I live here in TN. Pretty sure trump has this state. Unless our electors decide differently. I am still trying to understand it was well, So if someone reads this and I have it wrong, feel free to correct me or add to this. If this is indeed true, there really is no point in me voting.

      Brett Dent Okay.. lol.. So first of all, I might be stereotyping, but its not much of a stereotype if its mostly true about the party. I mean, they all denied climate change... Virtually all of them deny basic science, and that is having your head up your ass. The trickle down theory has been proven to not work, along with many of the other things that they propose.
      If you think that you are so intelligent then look around you and make your own observations about the world instead hating against people that trump tells to hate. Same with ted cruz.
      Also, its not that hard to assume you are a republican, listen to yourself.

    • @LiamSilverman
      @LiamSilverman Před 8 lety

      Brett Dent I thought you said you were conservative.. "I perfer the title conservative". Let me make another hefty generalization, you prob support trump or cruz who are both racist, homophobic, and against atheist. If you believe in those values then I dont know what to say. Its pointing your finger at the wrong issues.
      Also, about climate change; the only reason that climate change is being questioned is because people, like the koch brothers, poor millions and millions of dollars into our government to make people believe it is a hoax. Yes, climate change is a real thing, and Yes, it is caused by human activity. When we poor CO2 into the air it doesnt just go nowhere, and based on basic scientific knowledge we know that it is a problem that we have to deal with immediately. It is the biggest threat to our country, and I would listen to the scientists, not the republican party.
      There isnt much to understand about the conservatives except that many of them are ignorant. And yes, i assume there have been good ones in the past, but I feel like the party has become shit. Mostly because of the republican candidates who are running. The last republican president we had fucked our country up pretty bad *cough* *cough* BUSH.
      I dont know why you would be against someone like Bernie Sanders who has so much to bring to our country. That the best part about him is that he isnt hating against people based on their religion and race, he is for the people.

      @@Pinkdesert Thank you for suggesting me to gather more information. I did take classes in Political Science in my former Universities. I do understand that it was set up to make the "election fair," (according to the founders) but in my "opinion" it is not fair because it does not really reflect the Will of the people. For example, in a state that a Democrat or a Republican wins by .05, whoever took the extra .05 vote wins the whole state even though it was almost halved. That is why it is not really fair because without the electoral college every single vote would count in every single state. Then, it will really reflect the will of the people. But with the electoral college, the will of the people is not really reflected.

    • @dorisr5384
      @dorisr5384 Před 3 lety

      @@Pinkdesert one major problem is the "winner take all" nature of the current system. As mentioned by @Alberto Sandoval if all of a state's electoral votes goes to the winner of the popular vote of the state the vote can dramarically veer from the popular vote. Another problem, which this video doesn't address, is that the electors - who are actually voting to elect the president and vice president - are NOT required to cast their votes in accord with how their states have voted. They are actually allowed to vote how they want.

      @fabrizio483 Před 8 lety +2

      D Smith Very simple: each person should vote directly to a candidate and all votes should be counted individually. The candidate with most votes win. Instead of a few electoral colleges, there should be millions of voters. This indirect system America has is incredibly unfair and unheard of anywhere else.

    • @dsmith9964
      @dsmith9964 Před 8 lety +5

      +Fabrizio Aldonne You didn't answer my question. How is the electoral college unfair to small states? Because the number of electoral votes each state is allotted is equal to that states total representation in Congress, small states have a greater proportion of voters per capita than the larger states. Having a national popular vote for President would diminish the voice of the voters in the smaller states.

    • @fabrizio483
      @fabrizio483 Před 8 lety +1

      D Smith I didn't say it was unfair to small states. It is unfair to everyone. Now kindly explain why direct vote would "diminish the voice of the voters in the smaller states"?

    • @dsmith9964
      @dsmith9964 Před 8 lety +5

      +Fabrizio Aldonne Do you not understand how federalism in the US works? If you're not American, I understand. Allow me to explain. Like I said, the number of electors that each state is allotted is exactly the same as its total representation in Congress. There are 435 seats in the House of Representatives to represent popular interests. These seats are apportioned among the states according to population with no state having less than one seat. Each of the 50 states also has two seats in the Senate to represent individual states interests. The electoral college provides a reasonably fair balance of popular interests and states interests. Abolishing the electoral college would effectively diminish the voice of voters in the small states by removing the representation of the electors that represent the states Senate delegation. With a national vote, voters in large states and densely populated urban areas would control the election of the President at the expense of the concerns of voters in the smaller states.

    Its simple. Count everyone's vote. Then see who has the most and that candidate wins. Stop separating states. Everyone is equal.
