This is also not true. Users don’t own their identity, data nor followers unless they self host. Even then the expectation is incorrectly set. If you point your old account towards your new account but you’re on an instance that has blocked or is blocked your followers don’t come over

It's 2024 and I think this is one of the most important videos on the internet. The average internet user has no control over their networks and doesn't even engage with the web (and all it's glory!). Meta, X, and TikTok rendered RSS an antiquated technology, but we have to learn why RSS (or it's philosophy) is imperative if we don't want some kind of Orwellian digital dystopia.
