  • You requested it, you wanted Bob to test the Hyundai brand so here is the first of them. The Hyundai i40 Tourer kicks off the reviews of one of the worlds biggest car makers. Can it really be as good as the European makers?
    Lets find out.

    These reviews are great, very honest, very focused. My favourite aspect is how Bob avoids criticising the handling for the sake of doing so, by adding the caveat that that's the sort of thing only "keen" drivers will notice. This is something other motoring journalists should do.

    Very late to the party, I know. But just today I picked up a 2012 Hyundai i40 Tourer Blue Drive with 85,000 miles on the clock. OK, there are a few niggles to iron out (Stop-Start has stopped starting, the parking sensors are a bit random), but, for a second-hand car that has done 85k it drives well, it's still super economical, it's not rotting, it looks good from ten feet away and it's comfortable. If I'd have spent the same money on a Euro car, well....

    Late to be commenting I know. But, I have just bought an i40 tourer and I am hugely impressed. For the money it is excellent and I can honestly say, everyone who has ridden in it has been very positive about it.
    The tune is easily turned off and I really am happy with it. Steering is quite light, but that is the only slight negative.

  • @PeakyBlinder
    @PeakyBlinder Před 8 lety +8

    I didn't but to be honest the i40 was the 1st I test drove and it reminded me of my jaguar . it is so quiet so smooth and effort less to drive.
    it has a ton of room and in my opinion well worth the money.
    put it this way I handed over 18k without a second thought.
    my friend has a Mondao and it just feels cheap and plasticky to me.
    and also come night time you turn the lights on and the i40 turns into a spaceship.
    I love it.
    but that is just my opinion and I'm just a roofer not a car enthusiast.
    but I hope it helps you decide.

    As an automotive enthusiast it's exciting to see and underdog manufacturer like Hyundai rising to the stardom of recent years. I also kind of like that "jingle" they have in their cars at startup, too me that's a bit of personality. Details like that and the styling recent Korean models are really forming a distinct personality for Korean cars. A personality that is much more appealing and communicative than the Japanese manufacturers in my opinion.

    @roryniland My opinion of this car couldn't be more nailed to the mast if I used a nail gun. I understand the comparison thing and some cars need it. Most of the time comparing cars is just being lazy, comparing a Hyundai to an A4 just isn't fair they are a world away from eachother in price.
    I like to review a car based on how it makes me feel while driving it. If it was worse than something else I'd say it.
    Thanks for the comment and keep watching, there will be some comparisons coming soon :D

  • @846524162
    @846524162 Před 12 lety

    I love the looks of it, especially the white one with gray/gunmetal rims, looks better then all the rivals. But what bothers me is the price and the engine options, one petrol and one diesel if I'm correct. It defenetly needs 2.0 diesel with around 150+ hp. And a bit lower price :)

  • @BilNerd

    The Sonata and the i40 aren't the same car, but are based off the same platform. Exterior styling is quite different, although reminiscent, and the i40's interior is of much better build quality. The i40's also got a shorter wheelbase and shorter overall length. The Sonata is a nice car, but wouldn't work in Europe. Firstly because it's to big for a European mid-size and secondly we demand a higher quality interior. The Camry for instance was discontinued in Europe 10 years ago because of this.

  • @BobFlavinVideo
    @BobFlavinVideo  Před 11 lety

    We don't have the cars long enough to assess the cost of servicing, every service is different. You might look after a car and that means just a standard service whereas someone else might run it into the ground and servicing costs a bomb.
    Hyundai are still running an offer on new cars for unlimited care, the car in this video would cost 500 euro for 5 years of servicing with lots more stuff, 100 euro a year sounds good to me

  • @BobFlavinVideo
    @BobFlavinVideo  Před 12 lety

  • @cluelessjoe
    @cluelessjoe Před 12 lety

    So for a family car, a Hyundai i40 would be better value, but for a motorway cruiser, the 508 is better. Am i getting it right? Because i'm kinda in between an i40 Premium and a 508 GT (the one with the 2.2). But the 508 is a lot more expensive and still doesn't get all the features that the i40 gets ( heated wheel and Lane assist, reverse camera , etc.) .

    I wish we could get the i40 in the USA. Someone reported it wasn't the same as the Sonata but it looks a lot like in estate wagon trim. We can't seem to get estates (we call them station wagons) back in the USA. If we want something more useful than a regular sedan we are relegated to mini vans and big SUV's! Not a very good choice.

    Bearing in mind the i40 will appeal to company car drivers (their primary target for this car), have a look at emissions and mpg and THEN try and justify getting an Optima over the i40. I'm currenlty looking for my next car and, in terms of drive, comfort, spec etc, the i40 beats the Peugeot 580, VW Passat Bluemotion tech etc hands down.
    As an unfortunate comapny car driver hand-tied in terms of P11D value, emissions, mpg and contract hire, I haven't been able to justify not getting one.

      ***** I find it hard to believe it was your tyres, Its actually a problem with the front bushes, there's NO camber adjustment!!!! I know someone who's looked very deeply into this issue and its a design flaw. The only way to fix it is to pull out the old bushes and get some offset ones installed that way you'll be able to adjust the camber slightly which will fix the problem. Hyundai don't want to admit to this because there are a bunch of pricks....After sales service SUCKS
      Do not buy a Hyundai if a problem arises you're on your own

    My Hyundai i40 tourer 2011, is pulling to the left. And still pulling to the left after four wheel alignments by hyundai..!
    After googling the problem there are thousands of Hyundai customers talking about this fault online.
    I would be very happy with this car, if it could just find the road and wasn't actively seeking out poles and ditches to the left...
    Of course at Hyundai main dealership which I have gone to two, have said "that's strange we've never heard of that problem before" and still getting the excuses it's a safety feature or road camber..
    Buyers Beware...
    I'm bringing mine back to the dealership again.
    If anyone has any solutions on this I'd be happy to hear them...🤦🏻‍♂️..?

    The Chevy Cruze is better in that one little trim thing. That's it. You folks in the U.K. , know that the only "American built" cars are few. CTS, CRUZE, CORVETTE. All of those other Chevy's are built in Korea,and other parts of Asia. The "Lecetti ", on Top Gear, was a Suzuki. The badge was made in China. The Corvette is OK, too. Fun, yes. But OK. I "hired" , rented, a car last week. BMW, 535, or, a choice of 2 brand new, ZO6 Corvettes.
