No. It's a. long colt.
Per Hornady's specifications, the 250 gr. XTP is rated for 800 to 1600. At 836 fps, which if I remember was on your chrony, that is a super whimpy .45 Colt loading. I use Unique and shoot it at 1300 fps with great performance. A lot of factory loadings for .45 Colt are designed not to destroy early versions of the firearms that were chambered for it. Using loading data for Ruger loads from a variety of sources would get you .45 Colt ammo that is much better. Also, some companies like buffalo bore and others have much better loads for it in at least the 1000 fps or faster levels. My bear loads are a 300 gr. XTP Magnum, which is much harder to expand, but with my max Ruger load, it'll print the backstrap of the pistol in your palm for a while.
Yeah, a lot of the wimpy ones are cowboy loads designed for older firearms like you stated.
The +p stuff can get crazy powerful. Might be recalling incorrectly, but I do remember seeing a +p from Buffalo Bore that was a little over 1k foot pounds for muzzle energy

@@exhaustus7437 depends on the company. I've seen a lot of whimpy ones, but buffalo bore and some others have some better power loads. I load +p+ for 38 special when used in the charter arms compact we have. Definitely more snappy than factory. 8)
Exactly what I was thinking on this video and the one before.. You can load that .45lc even a little hotter than a 44 magnum, like you said a lot of the long colt loadings are low powered cowboy loadings to shoot out of old week barreled cowboy 45 colt's , There are corbon 300gr 45lc+p that will push 1350fps and 1156ftlbs out of a 6in. barrel...
454 Casull JFN 300gn 1650ftps 1813ftlbs so the casull at an even 300gr 300fps more and like 657ftlbs more energy with a good deal more recoil also..
I always hoped that Taurus might make a raging judge version of the circuit judge one day. Imagine that 454 performance with an 18" barrel!! That would be fun.

You can buy 454 lever guns if you can find them. Add 300-400 fps.

The best way to maximize the performance of your .454 Casull is to hand load for it. These rigs run at 60,000 psi and if you can stand the recoil, you can build some very powerful loads for this caliber! I have found that you can get along a little easier with the Ruger Bisleys in this caliber when running the top performers. I use a 4 and 5/8ths model these days and run 335 grain Montana Bullet Works hard cast @ 1250 fps for a bear load and use that 250 Hornady XTP in .45 colt cases @ 1450 fps for a shooting load.
I will say though, that I can't get to far from my old RSBH .44 magnum using the old Keith 250 grain hard cast bullets @ 1450 fps! This load and pistol have put a lot of meat on our table and has been a great long range shooter for fun over a lot of years!
When I ran a Ruger SRH 7.5 inch in .454 Casull, I loaded that 250 grain XTP to 2,000 fps! Extreme power and the flattest shooting revolver I ever shot! :) Thanks for always bringing us a fun and interesting video to watch my friend! God Bless..

Man thats awesome! I remember when the Judge first came out and shooting one that a buddy of mine got. He hand loaded his .45 LC shells, and they packed a wallop compared to the store bought LC shells he brought so we could compare. Im surprised he didnt get a Raging Judge when they came out, but he said that with his hand loads, he gets almost as much power as a .454 for a lot cheaper price.
This is one of my favorites, just wish my would handle the 454c. A blast to shot and fun to look at. Lucky to find 410 nowadays, thanks again WTW. 🎥🥇🥇🥇👍🙏🏻

I love that this model has six rounds and is non-ported.
I dislike their other five-rounders and top ported short barrels to ensure flash and loss of velocity.

Hornady XTP bullets are awesome. They are used a lot in store bought loads and are available at a reasonable price for reloaders ( I don't know the price during this shortage though). They are used by target shooters because they are one of the most accurate bullets made. The also have a good ballistic coefficient (they slip through the air easily).They mushroom really well and aren't too fussy about what velocity they mushroom at. They will mushroom some at velocities that are really too low to expect mushrooming. I wish they were available at a bulk price. I think a lot of people would buy them 1000 at a time if the price was right. They are pretty much good at everything.

It is 60oz for the 3inch model really cuts the recoil
I have the 6.5" barrel version. My preferred shelf round is HSM Bear Load 325 grain. The RJM handles it nicely, with a "creamy" recoil that doesn't punish the hands or wrists. I believe that you would enjoy firing this particular revolver.

What about the 460 same size just longer than the 454
I’ve been wanting to see that also. I would recommend using a longer barrel to test the 460 though. It packs quite a punch.

I think it would be cool to combine the clay block and milk jug tests. Put a clay block in from of the jugs. That way the bullet would already be expanded when it hits the jug (I think).

The holster’s for my 2 ragging judge’s were custom ordered as twin shoulder holsters made by craft holsters also hunter brand makes a right hand only for the raging judge also hope this helps

Yeah, I think I was confusing Adam with someone else but I really thought he had the same gun. I have a Circuit Judge that fires the .410 and .45LC but not the 454 and I remember thinking how cool it would be to have that also. I probably just confused him with one of the other GunTubers. Never heard of this pistol. Glad you are the gate way to new guns lol 😂. I’ve had eyes on the S&W 460 for a while. It’s a 45LC 454C and 460. Bad part is cost.
I was fortunate enough to get the 460 XVR about 4 years ago. I wanted it to use for big game. I’m telling you it an absolute BEAST. Unbelievably flat shooter. It’s nice the it shoots 3 different rounds. Now I have 3 choices to go broke buying ammo. I must say, it’s incredibly loud being a 8 3/8” ported barrel though. Gotta wear electronic hearing protection even to hunt. You’ll regret shooting it without it. Best of luck on getting one. 👍
Milton again, this chest holster I bought to work in the woods with a chainsaw and or weed eater, mending fences. Works great, heavy it is. You are carrying a quite large gun.
Really need to revisit the 410 slug round again with some different slug manufactures in the jug test and on paper with this

I have those same XTPs coming out of my 45 Colt Blackhawk noticeably faster than 800fps, more like 1150.
Try filling the first jug with plain water, then you just have to dry it off your guns.

You need a Raging Hunter in 460 S&W magnum and use 454 Casull and all levels of 45 Colt. Even 45 Schofield and 45 Autorim can be used in it. If you can find those last two.
It comes ported and is an awesome design hunting handgun.
