  • Ave Maria!
Fr Ignatius gives the third talk for the retreat on the Three Stages of the Spiritual Life on how God give us a night of the senses in order to help us to be able to progress to higher levels. God wants us to love him, the God of consolations, rather than the consolations of God. Father covers the difficulties encountered during this most necessary final stage of the purgative way and how to progress at this time and not get discouraged. We begin to know ourselves better, have more humility and patience with ourselves and others. He gives many examples of saints who experienced many years in this stage, before entering the Illuminative stage.
From a retreat at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center in Bloomington, IN from Jan 18th to the 20th, 2019.

Let us surrender our will to him who was from the beginning, who is now, and who is to come.

On reading accounts of St Louis Martin, it appears he suffered some form of dementia with agitation and paranoia. He had some periods of lucidity. He had to be committed to an asylum; probably due to the fact he would wander off. At one time he waved a hand gun about thinking he had to protect his family from threat. He eventually could be taken home to be cared for by his daughters and a man servant.

Is there any chance Fr. Ignatius could say a word or two about scrupulocity in regards to the inner and outer court? Does God ever use scrupulocity for purification? God bless, this series is really from God. I'm at any high state of spiritual life, but this gave me a real push to better myself.
