    Hey guys, we need to set the record straight on something we got wrong in our recent kite comparison video. We talked about measuring the diameter of the leading edge of one of the kites, but we actually measured its circumference. Oops! We're sorry for the confusion and any head-scratching it may have caused. We take accuracy seriously and will make sure to use the right terms going forward. Thanks for tuning in and keeping us on our toes!

    Very nice review, tks. You forgot to mention about price differences. For size 12m: Evo normal: 1949e, Evo SLS: 17% more expansive than Normal (2279e), and Evo Dlab: 62% more expansive than Normal (3149e). And also, Evo SLS 2023 is 13% more expansive than SLS 2022. And also, models like REBEL do NOT have a Normal model any more, you can only buy SLS Model (2489e)!! WTF Duotone. After 20 years of kiting with exNorth/Duotone, I think i am done with this BS, i will switch to another brand for my next quiver. I wish you good luck for selling those Dlabs..

    Thank you, excellent informative review. I flew the 15M D Lab Juice in Sicily this summer in unusually light winds (8-12 knots). At 70kg it was a big surprise: responded like a 12M, handled the gusts and kept powered up better than the kites around me in the lulls. Expensive af but a perfect kite for Miami where I live now

    Great video! What would you guess the wind range to be for each evo model in a 12M?

    • @Kitemana
      @Kitemana  Před rokem

      It's hard to give specific numbers on each model. But from my experience the Evo D lab has the widest wind range, as it's very easy to handle in strong wind but also in lighter wind due to it's aluula construction and therefor flying further in the wind window. The Evo D Lab will fly in 8 knots and won't fall out of the sky. With a normal Evo it will frontstall in these kind of conditions, the Evo SLS is kind of in between of these two.

  • @kitesurfflyer454
    @kitesurfflyer454 Před rokem +1

    Great review! Very bummed that they don't make a 14 or even 15 Evo D/Lab. That would be perfect for light wind areas (most of the world). I tried the Juice, but like my 15 Rebel SLS better.

      Then you can certainly look at the Juice DLab, these are actually large sizes of the Evo DLab. The Evo DLab goes up to 13m and the Juice DLab is available in sizes 14,15 and 17.

    • @Kitemana

      I'm covinced that 8-12 could replace the set. Although, I would rather advice going for 8/11 or even 8/10 depending on your length, weight, home spot, average wind, level of riding etc.

    In my experience the EVO SLS is less durable than normal EVO. Is DLAB even less durable? At these prices the kite has to last longer to be a viable choice. I had bridle sheath fraying because the bridles were twisting around while walking the kite to the launch area. This is because they are so much thinner. I ended up anchoring them with the batten velcro but the damage was done. What about relaunchability? Not covered in the comparison.

    • @Kitemana
      @Kitemana  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hmmm. To be honest, that is still a question we don't really can answer at the moment. Since the launch of the EVO Dlab (around the beginning of march) we have only had a few of them in our repair store. I think we can tell you much more about the durability of this kite when time passes. What you can take into consideration is: it's more difficult to repair an Aluula kite than a normal dacron kite. To repair Aluula it takes more time, so this will cost a little more. The relaunchability of the kite is incredible, because the kite is lighter and is easy to maneuver to the side of the wind window where you want to relaunch the kite. On flat water spots you can also try to relaunch it by pulling the backlines.

    Can't imagine that there is a big difference, because of the weight. Maybe only in extrem lightwind for hydrofoiling.
    There is so much marketing. Different bar pressure or high wind performance because of the weight, seriously?

      @Kitemana  Před rokem +1

      By checking out this video that we created in collaboration with team rider Lasse Walker (czcams.com/video/xCjQefxREec/video.html), you can see that the exceptional performance of the Evo D/Lab kite is not solely due to its lightweight design. Numerous other factors contribute to making this kite one of the finest in the entire industry, like the thin LE. 🤘

  • @Wainando

      I agree. I own a 17m A-series Flite. The 17m A-series Flite is equal in Kg’s as the EVO D-Lab 13m! That’s crazy! I’m not sure why Duotone can’t make them lighter. 🤔

    • @Wainando
      @Wainando Před rokem +2

      @@collegepros I guess Duotone is just lazy and keeps the kite-design the same across the normal-sls-dlab's, just another material for the LE and struts. Whilst OR makes a kite-design from scratch around the Aluula frame; making the LE and struts way smaller in circurmference as Aluula can take more PSI. Even the colouring of the DLAB's look out of place. Duotone spends their money on marketing, whilst OR use their budget to just make better kites and hopes on mouth-to-mouth and ofcourse Giel. Just my biased opinion.
