    • @ViolentEpyon
      @ViolentEpyon Před 4 lety +8

      @@spudfox6270 I suppose that's true, but then the interviewer would have had to have seen all of her prior interviews, which I'm sure they have not.
      Even if the interviewer has by some chance does know how her name is pronounced or had seen one of those interviews, their audience hasn't. Which means it gives the interviewer something additional to talk about whilst also educating them on how to pronounce her name.
      The fact is that her name sounds nothing like it's spelled so it's always going to be a talking point. As someone who's always having their surname butchered, I don't think it's that difficult to understand, millionth interview or no.

      @Steve Fury: It's almost like a few years back when I saw a mashup of every time Hugh Laurie was on a talk show and the host asked him "So you're actually English?" There were so many clips... that sort of thing must get so old so fast for these people... but they get paid tons of money, so I guess they can put up with repetitive, boring questions.

    • @schmiggy
      @schmiggy Před 6 lety +50

      Well yeah, because unlike almost every other language that uses the English alphabet (or close enough), it doesn't sound anything like the way it looks. Anyone with the tiniest exposure to French can guess close enough to how a name is actually pronounced, whereas someone with the same amount of exposure to Gaeilge wouldn't stand a hope in hell. You can't blame people for being interested or amused by something that's so extremely foreign to them.
