    Meredith is parentless, but the truth is she's been that way since she was 5 years old. Her parents were shitty and didn't do right by their daughter. Her father could've fought for custody instead he decided to create a new little family and forgot all about the daughter he already had. Meredith owed him nothing, but if there's anything she's learned in her life is that you've got to say things while you have the opportunity because people die.

      Mer owed him nothing, but because she loved Lexie, she gave him her liver. She's a hell of a lot stronger than I would be. I love the way they write her, and I've felt this crazy connection with her since I started watching a few months back.

      Been awhile since I watched but he left Mer alone with Ellis for another family because Ellis didn't want him. No contact either because he didn't want to or because Ellis never let them talk.
      1. His new wife didn't mind Meredith she liked Mer but then Thatcher blames Mer for his wife's death even tho she wasn't involved didn't he slap her? Even tho she just wanted to comfort her never there for her father??
      2. his oldest daughter hated Meredith for some reason, never seen again.
      3. Lexie always wanted to get to know Mer, left her family to become Meredith's family basically then died.
      4. All the derek drama choosing 2 other woman over Mer & flirt with another while married & died.
      So yea I hated Thatcher at times but felt bad on how Ellis treated him, he loved Ellis & was just thrown to the crub because her real love didn't leave his wife and Ellis blamed poor young Mer for it all. Loved Lexie (will 4ever miss her) All in all Meredith deserves better, she better have a happy ending for her character she suffered so much not including all the other stuff she had to deal with.

      lilyxavier1990 dont get me wrong i dont like thatcher but to say he didn’t try isn’t right. Yes he left meredith with ellis but she didn’t give him much choice, ellis ran him out of their home in hopes of having a proper relationship with richard but he chose to stay with his wife. After that ellis LEFT seattle with meredith and moved to boston, where they lived for a time. Thatcher in no way is or was a good father but lets look at the whole picture, he was verbal abused and belittled by his wife, endured it as she did the same with their daughter and stayed with her knowing that she was cheating on him with another man. After time he remarried and had another family, he easily could have tried to integrate meredith into his new family but he still probably feared ellis, lets be real she wasn’t exactly the sweetest woman.
      Ohh and molly was the youngest of the grey sisters. Lexi was susan and thatcher eldest. And i just want to say i didnt like the relationship that the writers made between susan and meredith because all that woman wanted to do was love her like one of her own daughters, just for them to have meredith be downright rude to her.

    Meredith is a fictional character but yet I can't stop feeling such empathy for her. Everything she went through and everything she witnessed is so heartbreaking, enough for a person to fall into a deep depression and never want to get up again but she did and that's why I love her so much and the way she's written. She used to be this naive young intern who fell for the sexy older attending but she then became this huge realistic, inspiration. She lost her friends,husband,mother,father,sister yet she keeps her head up everyday and keeps being an amazing mother. Grey's anatomy definitely changed over the years but I can't imagine how it'll be like once we stop seeing Meredith's life. I can't even imagine how the last episode will be like

  • @SorceressRose

    In all honesty, I didn't like Thatcher, just the way they made him out to be on the show and I still remember him slapping Meredith, which I didn't like, even though he lost his wife due to the hiccups around the same time, it wasn't good for him to do that to Meredith, who tried everything then
    But I will admit, this is a good death scene. He may have never been a good father to Meredith, he may have never been there, but at least the two got to make amends and spend his final moments together. It's even more beautiful that they talked about her children and how good her life is with them. At least he died knowing she was happy.

    • @eventingirl001
      @eventingirl001 Před 5 lety +29

      He was put through a lot, he married a woman who cheated on him, got custody of his daughter, unknowns to him had another child with the man that she cheated on him with and as far as we know had no contact with thatcher unless necessary. I think Meredith reminded him of Ellis way too much in good ways and bad. He is a tragic character but he had his moments.

    • @thundercookie1014
      @thundercookie1014 Před 5 lety +19

      I think Thatcher was very bad at handling stress. He slapped Meredith after she told him Susan died and became a drunk, he went half way across the country when Lexie died, he went to Derek’s funeral but didn’t end up talking to Meredith, when Ellis kicked him he just left and didn’t take Meredith with him.
      I think she understands that because she was pretty shitty at too. Considering the banner of avoidance and tequila she lived under for so many years. In the end it’s good that she came so she could some closure. Unfortunately, they never had a relationship.
      I never liked Thatcher but this was of the saddest death scenes I’ve seen on Greys Anatomy in my opinion.

    • @iamsultana
      @iamsultana Před 5 lety +5

      This scene was not really meant to give Thatcher any depth. We can tell that he was feeling remorse and wanted things to be right - this is, needless to say, expected from someone suffering from a terminal disease. This scene was meant to give depth to Meredith... She is still on her journey. She is still at a stage where she makes decisions, choices, mistakes, a stage where she learns, improves, betters herself. It was wonderful to see that despite being reserved, excessively independent and somewhat eternally sad, Meredith found strength and empathy in herself to provide comfort to this man. She is a great fictional character.

    The actor playing Thatcher did a great job. This is what it kinda is like at the bedside of someone who has "slipped away quietly." One minute they are there, the next the light just goes out of their eyes. Death isn't pretty or romantic or easy or calm. Most people's bodies struggle for those last few breaths of air whether they want to or not. The stronger the character the tougher they fight. Being there for someone's last moments on earth is beyond words. It has changed me for the better.

He was a wonderful father to Lexie and Molly. When he'd gotten his life back together he could have fought for Mer but he didnt. He just discarded her. And that is more unfair than what he's been through. Blaming Meredith for Susan's death was weak and cruel and that's on him not Ellis. Let’s be real...Richard has been the only REAL FATHER to Meredith in the entirety of Grey’s. Didn’t anyone notice how it hit her harder when Richard was sick than her biological father passing? Or how protective he was of her when he found out about her and Derek in season 1 even to the extent of calling Addison to Seattle? How he REFUSED to give Derek chief out of worry for how it would affect Meredith’s relationship with Derek due to how it made it difficult for Adele while he was chief. Or when Meredith’s medical license was in jeopardy, he put his medical legacy on the line to protect her? He bottle fed her when she was a baby, and looked after her while Ellis was in Surgery. She has his medical power of attorney!!! I wish Meredith would ask him to adopt her as adult, that would be a tearjerker. Maggie has a dad. Richard truly has filled that role in Meredith’s life. Plus, some cute grandpa moments with Zola, Bailey, and Ellis.

    I think she also felt like she needed to do this fort Lexie. I don't think she did it just for him. Lexie would have been by his side but since she couldn't be, Meredith was. She knew that Lexie would have begged her to be there if she was still alive. It was right to do.

      Meredith named her baby Ellies cause after Derek's death, its like her story and Ellies story collided , the difference is when Mer ran away she didn't commit suicide, and she didn't give her baby for adoption and she loves her kids more than Ellies loved her, somehow for her naming her baby Ellies because her story when derek died its like the same when Richard left ellies difference is derek died, but I have a feeling that if Meredith stayed in seattle after Derek's death, I felt like she could have had a miscarriage plus she could have done what Ellies did my trying suicide, so it's good she left for a year.

Or with Ellis? Did he begin drinking at that time?

    The parent/child relationship is complicated. You’re very lucky if you have a loving healthy relationship with your parents-many don’t. Meredith was able to reach a point of love and forgiveness with her father. Some can’t and that’s ok. At his core, I don’t think that Thatcher was a bad person, just a flawed one who experienced trauma because he was married to a person who really didn’t love him. He didn’t deal with it in a healthy way and caused pain to Meredith and others. Some people should never have been parents. They are either too damaged or simply not good people and their poison contaminates everything, including their children.
