Great video! It’s a very good practice to mesh tape all inside and outside corners first before waterproofing. It adds another level of strength. Very good info here
Also just to show appreciation, I found your channel while searching for an example of quality work that makes sense to compare to the contractor I hired, bc they did some weird stuff. There's no doubt the things I've learned from hundreds of your videos and livestream catalog have saved my house from suffering shortcuts that literally make no sense and I feel much more confident doing some things myself in the future. Question tho, do you have a video showing the type of tripod you have for your laser level, some of the ones I've seen at the store only go so low or don't seem to have measurements on the extension system so that's confusing.
Happy to hear some of this content has helped 👍 unfortunately the laser jamb I have they no longer make. They have a different version that I have not tried yet www.fastcap.com/product/laserjamb-lj4-pro
When you put it on the ceiling do you just paint over it or are you waterproofing it because there will there be tile there? If I’m painting my ceiling and not tiling it do I still use this stuff on the ceiling and the top corners where it will coat the ceiling? Can I paint over this and still have it look nice? Thank you and great videos!
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher thank you. I've been eyeing the purple sheetrock for my bathroom remodel and trying to keep the number of different materials to a minimum. However, I'm planning for a Kerdi membrane but I read somewhere last night that the purple may not be approved for Kerdi. I need to do some further research.
Water damage may happen behind the wall from busted pipe, pinhole in plumbing and etc. In case of drywall holding tile work if not addressed in time it will get soggy affecting integrity of tile work no matter how impervious was waterproofing tile was set on. Cement boards are not sensitive to behind the wall water damage and won’t require rebuilding tile work in shower stall.
Hi thanks for sharing, can I ask regarding a tub surround I installed a few years ago. Would a layer of 60 mill plastic installed prior to the cement board be any issue? We did the plastic ran it over the lip of the tub then installed the cement board followed by Red guard ( poorly installed one heavy coat of the stuff) finished off with 30" square tile. Do you think there will be any water issues later on?
I did mention that it would strengthen for sure, but not sure if you watched full video. The thick ardex membrane is embedded over the seams with the liquid waterproofing 👍
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher I understand that, and I got that the first time around, but where the two boards meet should have mesh tape if you want to put membrane over that then go ahead, but that doesn't mean that you skip the first step and putting the concrete board together
@@BonBon770 in fact, yes it does allow a skip in step. Ardex 8+9 acts as an adhesive with the thick membrane. And to be honest, pre-filling any of this was redundant. Thanks for sharing your opinion 👍 others will agree with you
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher so if you called permabase, they would say don't worry about the mesh tape? And they would agree that putting a membrane over two pieces of concrete board is sufficient enough? ok
Just had a shower built, and the guy was actually confused as to why I wanted it waterproofed. Why not do the $60 worth of prep, so that there's no moisture in the walls and mold eventually?
I did not. Too much build up.... This stuff will fill any gaps up to 1/8" thick. It's really feels like a rubber liner....I would highly recommend a mesh in niche corners if using another kind of liquid membrane 👍
Jeebus. If it’s not thinset it’s 8+9 you’re splashing all over yourself. There’ll be new viewers coming from certain Japanese fetish sites if the YT algorithm isn’t careful. Joking aside, I’ve learnt to really like the Ardex range of products after following your channel. I had to revert to big box thinset after I couldn’t get X5 this one time and it was an ordeal remembering how unfriendly it was compared to the superior X-5
I like this dude....He never cuts out the BLOOPERS n make a mess sometimes- a true dryer.... lol :]

I used liquid waterproof. It is fast and esey system.👍

amazing and informative video
Have you considered or used 100% silicone roof paint as a liquid membrane substrate? Why would you select or avoid it?
Videos are super informative, but the flashing closed captioning is very distracting.
So can you do the exact job zero to 100 for me?
Any reason you didnt use the moisture resistant sheetrock that you used in the rest if the bathroom as the base for the waterproofing?
Your right, I could of with Ardex 8+9. But I ultimately think cement board is more appropriate for this system.

@@BlahBlahManYeah crud, I didn't want to use cement board but that is a really good point. It's rare but it can happen

Where do you buy Ardex im down in Florida and have never seen anyone use it Thanks
What do you use to set in a soaking tub it sits on a plywood floor
3:55 is the “membrane” like a mesh tape, or more like a Kerdi band?
More like kerdi band. It’s pretty thick
You should be putting Alkali resistant mesh tape before you filled in any of the concrete board to concrete board transition. It's common practice.

Yeah once you start using Ardex thinset, it’s hard to go back
CZcams already has automatically generated closed captioning. Its really distracting in this video to have words flashing at different angles.
Thanks for feedback 👍
This guy is as bad at video editing as he is at tiling. He is absolutely clueless and giving people really bad advice. he should delete this video.
Wrong. Need to tape all joints with kerdi band. Or waterproofing tape even though you ate waterproofing after.
