  • Overeating vs Binge Eating // This week I'm answering your overeating vs binge eating disorder questions. In our society where we're taught to feel guilty for overeating, "I binged" can be confused with clinical binge eating disorder. You may be wondering if you're overeating vs binge eating food. This video will be a guide to clarifying this.

This is so common for women - I've struggled with both and I have had bad binging episodes. It's terrible what society has done to us sometimes. Thank you for sharing this

@@ParallelWellness I think the main issue every year is when you have multiple family gatherings, there's always so many goodies that we should enjoy without feeling guilty - however binging on the goodies will never feel great in the end. How can we have some self control this year (while still enjoying the food to a healthy degree) when it's been a super rough year for all of us, especially for those that seek food for comfort? :)

What if we have a combination of both? Not all the signs of binge eating (but a lot) along with a mix of overeating signs. Is that still an eating disorder?

Guys I don't know how to feel anymore. I've gone through so many restriction and binging cycles, it's like I've just given up on getting to a normal weight. I just want to be slim and I hate myself for letting it get this bad. I don't even know if I have BED, I don't have all the symptoms (ex. loss of control) and I don't binge more than like 3,000 cal. I feel really invalidated like I'm just fat and constantly overeat and that it's just my fault and not an eating disorder. I'm just so tired at this point.

You should try weight watchers. I really like their program. You can eat whatever you want, but it encourages you to eat good food and uses their point system to limit the high caloric food you might be eating. Plus u can save points for treats. And it'll teach you how to volume eat, which means eating a lot of low calorie foods to full satisfied quicker. Starving yourself won't work, it'll only keep you in a vicious cycle. I hope this helps. :)

I binged last night, I researched what to do afterwards and there were so many results which basically said that binge eating and overeating were the same thing.
That annoyed me and made me not so sure of the advice because I couldn't work out if the article was referring to over-indulging at a party or binge eating, in fact in some cases the article seemed to be referring to over indulgence and calling it binging.
Some people don't seem to get that binge eating is not overindulging at a party or on holiday.

My eating schedule is not healthy at all and need to work on this more. I don't eat much during the day so when I do eat, (usually at night), I eat fast but then feel full after just a few bites. Then I wake up hungry in the middle of the night. Thank you for sharing this, it brought this issue forward for me and made me realize what I need to be working on.

I feel I am in between - i find myself always thinking about food or wanting more than I know I need. I lost over 103 pounds restricting and exercising but when the pandemic hit, all my discipline went out the window because I was in a situation where I felt helpless and anxious daily. I wish there was ways to fix that constant feeling like you need or want food when you shouldn’t be- sure I can lose the weight again and all that but I can’t seem to undo the way my brain seems to be wired- i wish there was a hypnosis or pill that could make it so you’re not hyper focused on food like “normal” people. Why do some people eat a small amount and then move about their day while I’m wondering about my next snack or meal?

wow! Great illustrative breakdown of the difference between two 2 eating behaviors. Absolutely makes sense to keep those emotion in check to keep the eating in check.

Part of the problem I have is that I have eaten quickly since I was a child, my mother use to prepare terrible fish dishes sometimes and I would pick over it slowly until my parents would yell at me to eat faster, I still eat really fast except when I force myself to slow down

Yeah I had to train myself to eat more slowly,I remember being young and one of my first homework assignments was to time how long it took to do daily activities
..literally was told to lie cause dinner took all of seven minutes and the table started getting cleaned up even if you’re still eating

I’m both? I’d say I’m an over eater but I get physical discomfort and just eat past that, and I feel incredibly guilty and ugly
which apparently is binge eating.
