  • A lovely end theme that begins sad, becomes reflective and ends with spirit and hope.

"I guess we all died a little in that damn war." That perfectly reflects what war truly does to people. Even if they retain their humanity, there's still something in them that dies during it, which is why they don't come back the same.

The Civil war in the United States was extra painfully. Father fought their sons, brothers killed each other, and old friends took up arms against each other.

    "And then?"
"He's got the first move. I owe him that. I think, I'll try and tell him that the war's over"
"I guess we all died a little in that damn war."
Somewhere along the way, I feel I have died a little, but a great theme to listen to on a sombre bank holiday afternoon. :)

[putting his dead friend on a horse and sending him into the enemy camp]
Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood): This boy was brought up in a time of blood and dying and never questioned a bit of it. He never turned his back on his folks or his kind. I rode with him... and I got no complaints. The blue bellies will give ya a better burial than I can, boy.

Josey Wales: the greatest warrior of all time. He single handedly defeated a force of pursuers time after time. A guerrilla fighter who out foxed and out gunned his enemies time after time. In the end, he was the last Man standing, then rode off into the sunset.

  • @David-ky9ue

I like to imagine that the end of the Outlaw Josey Wales movie is the beginning of Josey Wales as the Man with No Name and the movies that followed like A Fistfull of Dollars, A few dollars more, The GBU, Hang em High, Two Mules, Joe Kidd, High Plains, Pale Rider and finally the Unforgiven when he was old and retired from being a bounty hunter.
Remember the scene in Fistfull where the young family asked why he was helping them, and he told them he knew someone like them once and there was no one there to help them. I like to imagine that he was thinking of his own life when the Redlegs came to his cabin and murdered his family and there was no one there to help them. Josey became a warrior and an expert in gunslinging and guerrilla warfare. It served him well when he became a bounty hunter.

The GBU took place during the Civil War and Josey Wales fought in it while the Man with no Name avoided most of the conflict except the bridge he blew up with Tuco

@@leegeddyfan You are correct. How about this: the Man with No Name was Josey's twin brother or cousin, hence why they both looked like Clint Eastwood and had similar gun fighting skills.

@@leegeddyfan Whell if his unit surrendered before the Texas holdouts did, than it could make sense.
That’s maybe why he didn’t play a larger role in the war in Texas. He didn’t want to return to his past.
Before you mention the bridge, it appeared more like on the spot conscription to me, hence why he is fighting for the Union.
