Related Species: Queensland umbrella-tree, Heptapleurum (Schefflera) actinophyllum. These 30-40' trees are common in southern Florida and Hawaii; invasive. The tree is multi-trunked (AKA Octopus Tree) like the S. arboricola, only bigger.

A.K.A. Heptapleurum arboricola. There may have been a name change in 2020. I still call it Schefflera. I've seen this plant come in from Florida wholesalers covered in scale; inspect your plants.😊 Many southern farmers can grow it as a secondary crop under a grove of trees after harvest because Scheffelera roots easily from cuttings. Both solid green and variegated types are used in the tropics as a formal hedge and grown as an understory to large trees. Hedges are heavily damaged by hurricanes with wind, fallen debris, and salt spray.

Some of the individual leaves on mine have three points at the tip, or some where there is a slit on the side making it look like a mitten. I'm unable to find a similar one online.

This plant contains calcium oxalate which causes contact dermatitis. It is not recommended for cats and dogs that chew on houseplants.
