Here's my horror story.
I was house sitting for a friend. I had left my DS in their house while they were still on vacation and I was out running some personal errands. I got back to the house and it had been broken into, garage door wide open, their car was gone ... and my DS, with both my SoulSilver Version and my Emerald Version in it (both of which had Nuzlockes I was working through), had been taken along with most hastily grabbed electronics. Never did get those back.
Turns out the people who did it had been casing the place for weeks prior to the week I would look after it, and there was nothing I could have done, but it still haunts me.
._. I would've burnt my house
Unfortunately life is just full of random events like that which you have no control over :( I try to remember that it could have just as easily gone the other way - there's a timeline where you left your DS at their house and your own house burned down or got robbed, accidentally saving your DS and games. Sometimes the dice just roll unfavorably against us and sometimes things work out

I had a pidgey named strawberry, I was training it, I found a stronger pidgey, I caught it and named it strawberry, I abandoned the old strawberry in pc box, and used the new strawberry insted, old strawberry now gives me death glares every time i see it in the pc box

When I was in middle school I went on a trip to California with my aunt for two weeks and while I was gone my little brother, not knowing how Pokémon games work, got bored and made new save files on every single Pokémon game I owned, which was all of them up to leaf green. I was so angry I didn’t speak to him for days after I came home and found out. I lost a few shinies due to him

I encountered my first shiny when I was 7, it was a shiny axew. I 'killed' it because 1. I was making my Samurott lvl 100 because I couldn't pass an early cave 2. I could've gotten a shiny haxorus in Pokemon white!

My first shiny was an absolute in Y.
In my literal 20 years of playing Pokemon, I've only wiped out once.
I was in the post -game area of Sinnoh and I was training up for the battle tournament thingie (I forget the name of Diamond's battle area) and I encountered a level 60 Raticate. My team consisted of Torterra, Honchkrow, Lucario, Buizel, Azelf, and Dialga.
This Raticate OHKO'ed them all with Hyper Fang.
This little gerbil did something Cynthia couldn't do. Not only did he beat me single-handedly,
he did it WITHOUT TAKING A SINGLE HIT.
What made it worse was that I hadn't saved in about three hours.

My nine year old self used it on a DAMN MACHOKE and not the PALKIA that I was almost going to reach, I had to trade with my friend for a level 69(srsly) palkia called PALKIA for my level 70 STARAPTOR that literally flew through everything after commander mars' first battle(a level 10 something starly nearly defeated her purugly but fainted, and somehow evolved when fainted coz it leveled up) even volkner couldn't stand up to my STARAPTOR and I was FORCED to complete the LEAGUE to catch the palkia in which my level 50 medicham got haxed by a FISSURE WHISCASH dang you beartha and my palkia survived on 1 hp against cynthias garchomp, then critted it with a blizzard and absolutely destroyed it lol take that

I was 6, so I fell for it, and once I found out what I had done, he never gave it back.

Tho despite this almost all of my shinies from Gen 3-4 didn't make it to gen 5-6 cuz I had no one to trade with and didn't get Wi-Fi until 2011 after the Victini event was over in Black... So because I had no one to play with, I often restarted despite having shinies...

My horror story: I remember when I was moving out of an apartment several years back, and I had to visit my dad over the weekend. So, my mom moved out some of the things and trashed some of the junk when I was visiting. Apparently, my mom must have confused my Nintendo DS along with ALL my games with the trash (I must've put it in the wrong bag). So, I basically lost my Nintendo DS along with all of my games, including my Pokemon Black 2, Sapphire, Leaf Green, and SoulSilver. The Pokemon Black 2 and SoulSilver games were also birthday gifts from my brother since he's also a huge Pokemon fan. He also gave me the Pokemon Sapphire and LeafGreen games when I was very little, and I played them for the longest time. Needless to say, I was very unhappy after that happened. 😂

I know the pain of losing the first shiny. I encountered one in White Version when I was first playing through the game, a shiny Basculin, and like you I ran out of balls. The reason was that I was in a cave, having just caught one of the legendaries, and when surfing across some water, I encountered it, with only one ball. Of course it broke out.

I only have encountered one shiny and (it was actually a pokésweet) in Pokémon Sweet,but I caught it. Never found a shiny since.
First time playing Pokemon, I was like 4/5, one of my party members got poisoned and that glitchy thing that happens to the screen came out. I didn't know what it was and got scared thinking my game was haunted and stop playing for months before finding out what it was

First time I saw it I was like "oh, I don't know what that is, it might be a glitch but it's not effecting gameplay" and rolled along with it, since this was in Pearl I got the text box of my Pokemon surviving the poison and the effect stopped, than I knew it was intentional
My horror story: When I encountered Mewtwo on let’s go Pikachu it was shiny, but I lost to it and by the time I defeated the elite four for the second time it was normal.
I had a "friend" who needed to complete their national DeX in platinum and I traded them my level 90 mew two I had brought up from an older game then they never traded it back in hindsight it was a bad idea

Very similar thing happened to me in my first Ruby playthrough! I did catch the Electrike (and thought it was the coolest thing ever) but during the time after I had caught Groudon, I loaded up my game only to find that the save file had been corrupted and the game was entirely deleted. It was a very sad day.
Aaand this is why you save 5 times in a row when your playing the older games.(so it will restore your save to previous if it gets corrupted.)(this only works if you have a good battery.)

I was SOS chaining for a Gabite for over 30 minutes and it finally appeared. I got it down to one HP, but then it used Take Down and killed itself.

I’m trying out my first Pokémon Nuzlocke with Pokémon Y and caught a Ralts early game. This was a big deal because in previous early attempts, all I was catching were flying types (Ledian, Butterfree, Pidgeotto). She died a minute later in the next trainer battle

When you encounter Shiny Geodude in Pearl...and it uses Self-Destruct...and it was your first shiny. Gave me a grudge against the Geodude line...and then Sturdy got buffed...and I died in a 2v1 Golem using Explosion.

My horror story is that when I was 4 on hg (My first pokemon game ever) I caught a shiny swinub before my bro who had been playing for 2 years and had never got a shiny so I knew what it was in advance. Anyway, I caught it and me and my brother got into a massive fight with me and my mum ended up asking me to trade it to my brother as he got really upset. As a 4 yr old I argued with her but ended up trading it to my brother to keep temporarily. Later on that year my bro forgot he had my shiny swinub and restarted his game which made me cry for 4 days and then he encountered a shiny meditite and was forced to trade it to me so to get him back I traded my good pokemon away and restarted my game lol

Here's a horror story.
Team Rocket's level 16 Raticate in Mt. Moon in Gen 1. That Raticate is a beast if you aren't prepared for it.
Once I was training for the elite four on crystal and a lvl. 34 Golbat knocked out all my pokemon including my lvl. 43 Alakazam
at least you know how to trade. i got stuck with a kadabra EVERY TIME and it is now my favourite pokemon

1:43 Something very similar happened to me. In my pokemon omega ruby, I was trying to catch regigigas. Just a regular old regigigas, when suddenly, BAM! A shiny regigigas appeared on my screen. But, don't get to excited, past me. When I was weakening it, I knocked it out with a critical hit. That is a shiny I still have to reclaim, but every shiny I ever encountered after that, I successfully captured the shiny!

They meant that it was at one HP, thus when it got poisoned, the poison took out the one HP it had left.

It's a Pokemon ability that passes on status effects.
Ex. Mew gets poisoned, so it passes the status effect onto Sharpedo.

My two horror stories are that I was playing Pokemon Silver and found a shiny Onix and ran away from it. The other one when I was playing Pokemon White and found/caught a shiny Kakuna and then the game crashed making loose it.

I have 2 Pokemon Diamond games (and also 2 DS systems), one official cartridge and one on an M3 card (which means I could cheat in it), and on the M3 one I cheated all event items in; the Manaphy egg from Pokemon Ranger, the Shaymin event, the Darkrai event, and the Azure Flute for Arceus. Seeing the Arceus event was really cool btw, 10/10 would do again. On that same file, I also had a shiny Roserade, which I had obtained by encountering a shiny Budew, training it up, trading it to the cartridge to evolve it, and then trading it back. At one point, I wanted to start a new file on the M3, I'd gotten my files mixed up and thought the legendaries and shiny were on the cartridge, and I restarted the game- and then found out the legendaries and the shiny were on the M3. I lost them forever.
To add insult to injury; the DSLite, which is my only system the M3 works on, is broken and won't read any cartridge anymore. I can never see the events again.

I was playing around with sentence u get when u go into ur moms house, I named pokemon "sans", I got the sentence "sans looks interested in your mom", I'm cursed now, I fail every shiny, pokemon never level up, and eevee hates me, thanks failboat
I found a Shiny Skiddo in X and at the time I was a noob and I was just messing around in some grass. Then, a wild Skiddo appeared, but it was purple. I was like: "My game's glitching! MISSINGNO got into mah game! (yes I knew about MISSINGNO before Shinies) Better kill this thing!"
I've never found a Shiny since.

I have one that's very...well, it was in my Sun playthrough. In all my trials, tough as they were, I found a way to win. Then...Hapu. My team was pretty much underpowered, and I didn't even get past the Gastrodon. Laugh if you must, but my ego led me to lose that battle, and my very first loss in any single player playthrough of mine. I feared Hapu for quite a while, even with Decidueye. I even took a long break from the game out of frustration...yup. That kid scared the crap out of me.

My horror story is from Ultra Sun. When I was playing through the game, the very first time I was in the ultra wormhole before the Ultra Necrozma battle, I encountered a wild Reshiram. At the time, I didn't realize how special it was, and I killed it. My old best friend told me later on that I had killed a legendary pokemon and I was so upset at myself lol

For those who think I’m being harsh the save menu literally checks if you want to save and if she knows how to use poke balls then she should freaking recognise the save button, so I think she did it on purpose and now hopefully you now see I’m NOT being heartless and my friend did it on purpose, I, being the nice sunflower I am, immediately forgave her (on the outside). And while it’s not the most important of my worries and it’s a little teeny weeny grudge I still can’t truly forget about it and I still get a bit of a worse day when I think about it, not by too much though

Similar to Mikey's story, I ran into a shiny amoongus while heading to Giant chasm, but I ran out of pokeballs. By the time I finally got out of Giant Chasm and defeated Colress, I went back to humilau city by foot so I could grind, and met another shiny Amoongus with no pokeballs. I threw my ds at the wall. Thankfully, it hit my couch, and is alive and well.

I had a great team, and my confidence overtook me. I had no healing items, and no revives. Me, not using the internet, had no idea that after the elite four, there was a champion. My Typhlosion was at half health. And then, that flipping dragonite. I learned to always buy potions. Always.

So yeah I came across a shiny golbat in the safari zone, it fled, after I threw 1 ball, after that I was like f*ck this, is golbat that hard to catch? So I looked for some more to see how unlucky I had been, so I found 3 and caught all three of them with the first ball... This happened very recently actually.
