Three gentleman so elegantly dressed. As an English speaker I thank you for taking the time and effort to produce this episode for us.
You're so very welcome Gavin! Happy new year! Hugo
Thank you very much my friend 🙏
At the tender age of 67 I thought I knew how to shine shoes . Your presentation gave me some new insights and ideas as how to up my game ! By the way this was the first time I watched your videos ! Keep on keeping on !
Welcome on our channel dear Mick! Happy 2024! Hugo
Thank you so much 🙏
Simple task of polishing shoes may involve multiple steps to get that magnificent shine. Great video Hugo!!
Thanks my friend! Hugo
You all did great and were 100% spot on with your English which is no easy feat even for a native English speaker like myself. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping those seeking to care for quality shoes they've invested in. (The fire show was a lot of fun, too, to be honest.)
Thank you for your message and so much the better for the flame if you found it cool 😉
My routine is to brush the shoe, apply saphir renovateur, brush the shoe, apply the saphir 1925 shoe cream one shade lighter, brush the shoe, then apply saphir mirror gloss to the toe and heel, then use the saphir vegetable oil on the sole and then voila, the shoes are ready.
Et voilà! All my best, Hugo
Your navy suit looks amazing.
Thanks Tim! It's actually a Blazer (worn with odd pants). All my best, Hugo
I'd like to say how much it is appreciated that you, Hugo, and your team, make such an effort to use English in these videos: it's so enjoyable to hear, understand and enjoy. I feel somewhat uncomfortable when people comment on semantics, pronunciation and small inconsistencies with the translation into English. I believe anyone who attempts to speak in another language should be praised and thanked! As a native English speaker (actually, I speak a dialect called 'Scouse' ;-)), I ca only imagine the effort it would take to present a show in English if you are a native French speaker. So, bravo to you and your guests.
Merci
Tony
Thank you very much for your kindness
All three of you speak better English than this Irishman 😂 great video, thank you gentlemen.
Thanks you're very kind Ryan! Cheers, Hugo
🤣 Thank you very much 🙏, Pierre talks better than me
Oooh, what an awesome start to the weekend, thanks for the upload!
You are so very welcome my friend! Hugo
Thank you for the excellent video. Like you I am most of the time in a hurry, we ought to take care of our shoes in our spare time or let someone else do it for us 😊
Indeed my friend! All my best, Hugo
Very interesting fire show))))), lovely episode,,,,you always surprise us my dear Hugo, thanks for your effort with dear Sonya, love from Cairo,
Thanks my friend! Hugo
I can’t thank you 3 enough, absolutely brilliant God Bless you all. Thank you !!!
Thank you for your support 🙏
Absolutely loved this episode!
Many thanks! Hugo
Quentin's silver skull ring seems familiar. I own a very similar one, maybe even the same design.
It's fascinating in this day and age to see people's reactions when you tell them you actually take care of your shoes if they are not sartorially inclined themselves. I only recently decided to not keep my shoe maintenance tools in a shoe box in the closet anymore. Bought a simple cherrywood chest with enough room for all the brushes, cloths and pots and it's sitting proudly on the foot of the coat rack. People love it, but when they ask what it is and you tell them, they act like you're making a joke.
I can relate to this for sure! All my best, Hugo
Very interesting show! Thanks Hugo and guests!
You're very welcome my friend! Hugo
Another outstanding video! You are a model of class and elegance. Don't ever change.
I have been looking forward to more videos on shoecare! Thank you so much, Hugo for making this.
You're more than welcome my friend! Hugo
Very informative and well done. Many thanks Hugo and Sonya!
You're very welcome my friend! Hugo
Dear Hugo, i would like to ask if you could make an episode about how to dress in Paris and Italy as a tourist?
Thank you for including women who love satorial as part of the conversation on this channel. Have you every thought of doing a video on fitting women with large breast on men-style blazers? It would be great to listen to a tailor discuss etc :)
AbsoAbsolutely beautiful show!
Thank you so much Hugo!
Ohhhh my brother, my teacher, my mentor...thank you for this. ❤️
Hydratation!! I love it Hugo! Thank you for expanding the English language. I will be using that word in conversation from here on out. Cheers! From Ohio, USA.
Splendid! Thank you for this wonderful refresher.
With great pleasure sir! Hugo
This is very interesting for me, I have learned mostly from Japanese shoe shiners. The process looks the same but the Japanese tend to like using their fingers instead of brushes to apply cream and wax. It's interesting to see how French masters do it a little differently.
Japanese people have their own methods for almost everything in life! Great people by the way. All my best, Hugo
I use my fingers, too, as does ‘the elegant oxford’. Much prefer it to an applicator or brush.
A hack I learnt from the Shoegazing is to use Navy wax on black shoes to accentuate the shine
Nice advice from Jesper! Cheers, Hugo
Hi Hugo
The CZcams algorithms ‘found you’ in the summer of 2021.
I watch your videos quite regularly and have enjoyed them.
One of your videos discussed shoe polish. I bought from Amazon Saphir Shoe Cream.
What an amazing product.
I use it on my shoes, sone of which are vintage Dior and Salvatore Ferragamo
I also use it on my Celine vintage handbag which is a dark green which I bought a few years ago
🏴🏴🏴😃😃👍 👍 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Loved it!
I love that you loved it! Cheers, Hugo
I was watching your videos since last 50 minutes while shining my shoes and you upload this 🫣
That's what we call a great timing! All my best, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS You know what the best part about this sartorial journey is.., my father was about to throw a pair of shoes away and with the help of this little community which taught me so much about how to care for an item, I was able to make them like new again and his facial expression was something which I cant describe in words.
Thankyou so much for all the content🙏🏼
@@mohitaggarwal1852 What a beautiful story my friend!
@ 1:13 Madame's suit is pure fire.
Another rule of thumb can be based on the aggregation state: the more liquid it is the more likely it is to moisturise (and/or clean!), the more solid it is the more likely it is for shining.
Thus follows that a lotion mostly moisturises and mildly cleans (see for example Saphir Creme Universelle or Burgol Leather Milk), a cream or pomade does both moisturise and shine in roughly equal measure (see for example Saphir 1925 pommadier or Burgol Pomade), and the wax delivers shine (see for example Saphir Mirror Gloss or Burgol Super Gloss).
Thanks for your contribution! Hugo
I can just hear my late dad shouting "get the shoes off the table!"
Same with my mother! She would say, get the shoes off the table, as it's bad luck! Best, Hugo
Poor Hugo. He was mortified with that fire on his uncle’s table! 😅
Hahaha yes!!! Yours, Hugo
Amazing video! One question: what is the most versatile double breasted suit style? To be able to mix and match if you want to dress it up or down. I was thinking on a blue suit, maybe herringbone?
Thanks!!!
I have never considered buying a shoe tree. My father and grandfathers had enough to pass down to me :-)
How to clean suede shoes next please?
Hello, for the moment we have not made a video in English but you have one in French on Hugo's CZcams channel "discussion sartoriale"
Happy new year everyone. M.
Happy new year dear friend! Hugo & Sonya
better to apply wax and cream with a brush or a rag? and for the last polish, I find that you really need a soft rag to get no streaks.
Thank you for your message . To apply all products, it is best to always use a brush. In fact at the end to polish use the cloth.
Does anyone now what wrist watch the guy in the blue suit on the right is wearing? I'm guessing Cartier or JLC but I can't identify the model. I've been looking for a new dress watch in that shape.
Why do you use croatian crest for your chanel
what is the name of the chemicals that were a bit less harsh than acetone? I would like to buy a big bottle of it.
Hello, thank you for your comment. You have the Renomat product which is less strong than acetone.
I have a question for any one that’s a shoe 👞 polisher, after the brush shine they did at the end, can I then hand shine polish them more so with a proper microfibre polishing towel ? Thank you in advance I’m starting a shoe 👞 shine business for real 🙏
Hello and thank you for your comment. Indeed you can use this soft cloth. And I would even say that you can make a shoeshine. We did an episode in French on Hugo's CZcams channel.
Hello all. I have a question about cleaning and polishing alligator leather. I cleaned an alligator watch strap with saddle soap and now it is dull and kind of sticky. Any suggestions for how to fix this and get it shiny again?
Your answer here (by Saphir): saphir.paris/products/reptile
Cheers, Hugo
👏
Many thanks! Hugo
Do you have different sets of brushes for blacks and tans?
Also be careful with some leather finishes such as Bookbinder (a modified leather one will find on some models of shoes from Northhampton). Arenovator may lift the finish.
A word on those whirly electric machine shoe brushes in hotel lobbies. Don't.
Yes sir, I have a brush for blacks, another one for browns and even some specific brushes for blues and burgundy. Cheers, Hugo
I agree, don't use these machines! Best, Hugo
A sartorial joke: A guy is on his honeymoon in Niagara Falls and breaks the heel off his shoe so he brings them to a local cobbler to get fixed. They leave and he forgets to pick up the shoes but keeps the repair tag in his wallet as a memento of his honeymoon.
Twenty five years later he and his wife are back at Niagara Falls to attend their daughter's wedding. To his amazement, the cobblershop is still in business so he drags his embarrassed wife there to present them the repair ticket for some laughs. Trying to keep a straight face, he hands the ancient repair ticket to the clerk who looks at it quizzically then disappears into the back. He hears some discussion and rustling in the back while he and his wife look at each quizzically. Suddenly the clerk reappears from the back and says: "I'm sorry, we've fallen a bit behind. Can you pick them up next Tuesday?"
Oh nothing to apologise my dearest sir .The French accent is even delightful to listen.
🎩🥃
It looks like you're more worried about losing your house than eager to have your shoes restored? Are you absolutely sure of your priorities here?😇
Oh yes! For sure, even if my love for my shoes is superlative! Hugo
