  • In this video we take a look at the (somewhat) recent JHS/EHX Collaboration, the Lizard Queen. Was it worth the hype? Who bloody knows.

So so so cool to get an actual video that is a real review and not an advert pretending to be a review. Nice one, mate.

Loved this video, I'm tossing up the nano LQ or orange muff pi and suspect I'll probably end up feeling as you do, but the price is not such a big deal so I might take a month to get there too.

That was a really nice use of the lizard Queen!
The germanium lizard Queens likely do sound slightly better because in my experience germanium always has a more detailed sound like there's more information to be heard. Of course these details are more noticeable in person and tend to be less noticeable in recordings especially in a mix. The germanium lizard Queen is well worth the price to me because it is the best but I also think that the silicone one is good enough and the difference in sound is minute.

I was interested in this one too- I thought it sounded best with octave on 10.... I use a green Russian bm - gonna try pairing it with an overdrive/tube screamer like you mentioned. Good demo.

I just ordered the nano for $75 used. I got to play it once for like 15 min and I really enjoyed it.

I watched the live stream, And had the opportunity to order one, but I ultimately decided the big box was not worth it. I buy pedals to use, not to collect. I did buy a small box version, but It hasn't really grown on me yet. Maybe if I need that sound on a recording, but I have plenty of other fuzzes that do what the LQ does, with loads of more tweakability. It was a cool project that Josh and DD put together, and I like the spirit in which it was created. But, in todays climate of thousands of boutique fuzz pedals, there is so much more out there that blows the LQ away.

Loved this, I feel like I’m in a similar boat, I think it’s a very nice sounding pedal for the things it can do, it’s just those things aren’t the things I tend to do, that’s not why I get a fuzz. Still sounds killer though regardless of if it’s for me or not.
I think the reason you feel like the balance knob does nothing is because it only effects the circuit when the octave knob is basically dimed.
I know obviously it’s harder to get some brands there, but I’d be really interested on how you feel with the Caroline Guitar Company’s Shigeharu as that is a muff style circuit which doesn’t have as much of a scoop so can be a bit less fussy in rigs. Plus it has an octave fuzz that it runs in parallel. Also always love to see you demoing EAE stuff.

Yeah you and me definitely feel the same way about it. Cool fuzz but not really my speed atm.
I’ve had my eye on the Shigeharu for a while now, but typically I don’t love pedals that are billed as “a big muff without the scoop” cos I actually like the scoop haha. But it’s not something I’m opposed to trying.
And Speaking of fuzz and EAE, I missed the first drop, but I plan on getting my hands on the new 0xEAE Fuzz as soon as I can and making a video in it. Plus any other pedal from their lineup I don’t have yet.

@@strazburg I look forward to hearing the 0xEAE Fuzz, I feel like I haven’t really heard it in contexts that I like so far which surprised me as I love EAEs stuff. To be fair it might just be a similar situation as the Lizard Queen for me where it is just a fuzz that’s better suited for things I don’t need, but then again some octave fuzzes can be right up my alley (the Hyper Fuzz is why I found your channel).
Would love to see what you think of the Dude Incredible, especially as I know you already have experience with the HP-2.

@@lgrcallum oh yeah I get that, the Fuzz sounds like it has some of that Hyper Fuzz vibe and that’s why I’m keen to try it. I’m definitely interested in the Dude Incredible too, I haven’t always super gelled with HP style fuzzes, but if someone’s going to get me to love it, it’ll be EAE. Plus the tube voice side of the pedal sounds like something I’d love.
Also thanks for following the channel and commenting, I really do appreciate the support!

It does the Robert Fripp thing circa early 70s (Starless) thing that when I'm in the mood works great.

The pedal reacts completely differently if it has a pedal with a buffer before it or not. The change is incredible. The volume knob of your guitar is basically useless without buffer (no tone below 8). With a buffer it sounds way clearer and your volume can allow you to dial in the tone you want.

Sounds much better than other demo's I've heard, but I think it's a bit weak on the octave. Yes, I cant hear squat on the Balance, and yes, it's pretty sloppy sounding. A good review though. Thank you for your honesty. Love my Fuzz. Bought and built many but spotted this as a mojo hype from the get go. Not an ounce of mojo in the circuit. Already traced and available as PCB's for clone builds but I wouldn't even bother with that, LOVE the lacklustre vibe of the demo though. Fucking awesome!!

Was the video worth it? The 10 minutes of rambling before getting to the point?
    No.
