    ACE Tickets can be purchased at San Jose Diridon at the Amtrak Ticket Counter. ACE does not use TVM’s at all and at most stations they actually have an actual agent. Since ACE does not employ an agent of there’s in San Jose they contract with Amtrak to sell there tickets at San Jose. At other stations (Except Santa Clara-University and Vasco) ACE employs agents of there own

      Ah, that makes sense. I think the signage wasn’t very clear, plus being a commuter line, I was expecting an actual ticket machine.

      I think the Amtrak ticket counter has limited hours. Last time I traveled to San Jose the Amtrak counter didn't open until 9 a.m. which is inconvenient.

      @@mariegarside8830 The first ACE train of the day out of San Jose departs at 3pm, so there really is no need for ace. But I do agree there are earlier Amtrak services it should be open for.

      How late is the last train to Fremont? Is there any way to co-ordinate with the arrival of Amtrak Starlight ?

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  Před rokem

      @@mariegarside8830 The last train to Fremont departs San Jose at 6:38pm, arriving in Fremont at 7:08pm. That being said, the Coast Starlight does not stop at Fremont, so there is no way to coordinate with Amtrak. If you are instead referring to the Capital Corridor, then there is no official way to coordinate with Amtrak, but I would check the scheduled arrival time and give yourself about 20 minutes of leeway in case of delays.

    Couple things. There’s no brown in the interior color scheme. Purple, maroon, yes. Brown no. The spitting water is because the tank had been emptied by passenger use, and now there’s air in the line. You should document an entire run, including Niles Canyon and the Altamont.

    Cool video! Last year I took this train and unfortunately did not have a good experience with the staff while boarding in San Jose. I also did not know where to buy my tickets and the crew seemed rather annoyed and had a “not another one of these people” on their faces.

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  Před rokem

      I'm glad you enjoyed. I can totally understand why you couldn't find/buy a ticket ahead of time, as there is no indication that you have to buy from the Amtrak desk. I couldn't figure that out and thus bought mine through the app, but if passengers don't know that's an option, which it's not advertised to be, then the crew better get used to the issue.

    When are they gonna electrify their trains like Caltrain?

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  Před 2 lety +2

      I don't think electrification is a priority for ACE at the moment. Their passenger numbers and service frequency don't warrant any kind of upgrades for the time being. Additionally, the tracks are owned by Union Pacific, so it would have to be UP's decision to move forward with any electrification plans.

      @@LonestarTrips What about Hydrogen fuel cell technology? You can still have a zero emission train without overhead catenary and have better range, faster refueling times and works better in extreme weather than a purely battery electric train!

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  Před 2 lety +2

      @@jamallhayden2512 Now that’s entirely possible! From what I’ve read, the Arrow commuter line in San Bernardino will be one of if not the first lines to use hydrogen trains, and hopefully their success will inspire other networks to adopt hydrogen trains.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 Před rokem

      @@jamallhayden2512 Hydrogen is just a gimmick. It isn't any less expensive than battery or overhead wire. And most hydrogen comes from fossil fuels and is provably more damaging to the environment than diesel. There is precisely zero reason to adopt hydrogen at the moment.
      Maybe in the future when electrolysis hydrogen becomes remotely competitive with fossil fuel base hydrogen. But my guess is that by then we'll already have a bunch of hybrid "battery with overhead charging" systems. Unlikely that hydrogen can solve its fatal flaw before batteries with overhead become too widespread to displace.
