When the Dean says "George, Sit down, you can't protect them anymore" you could see the hurt in his eyes. Because this Man has acted as a Teacher, Mentor and almost like a Grandfather to these kids.
But what really disappointed him was the fact that the Dean was right about what she said -- that he could no longer protect them.
He's more than a teacher. He's like a father figure to them.

Very badass because it shows that new that despite the punishment (which she is bound by her to give) who the real victim in this whole thing is. Topanga did not consent to Stuart's advances and he persisted anyway. That is textbook harassment.
What he did counts as harassment not just because she said no to him and he persisted, but also because he was in a position of authority as her professor. The fact that he tried to make advances on her at all is both unethical and illegal, even though they’re both legal adults.

Everyone’s talking about how Cory was lucky to be suspended for only one day and I think a lot of us are missing the point: That was intentional. The university bylaws required the Dean to suspend him and the least amount of time he could’ve been suspended for was one day. That’s the Dean’s way of showing that she doesn’t approve of Stuart’s actions and is ruling in favor of Cory and Topanga. The actual punishment was probation, while the suspension was just a formality that needed to be filled.
THANK YOU
What happens when you’re on probation? I had the curiosity
@@samirsedky3324 you’re under close scrutinization and any mistake can result in severe punishment
The truth is that a university is not separate from the laws that govern the city and state. A crime like this, should have gone through the local police before anything. The university would have a legal obligation to bring in the police. Even if to a seemingly minimal degree, a young lady was assaulted and the police should have stepped in. As far as the school, and even if bypassing the local police, the culture of predatory behavior was changing in terms of legal action; even back then. Back then, the university would have been required to take her charge seriously, call eh police, and then go after the teacher. The teacher, as would happen in any arrest, would be considered innocent until proven guilty, but he would have to prove that innocence. In the case of Cory, he should have been arrested and the school's decision should have relied on the outcome of the criminal investigation. If Cory was found innocent because he was defending a person who was being assaulted, which I know is a stretch in this case, the school would have to make a decision based on the outcome of his criminal investigation. I like this episode, I watched it when it first aired, but the reality of this episode is not legally accurate.
@@RumbleFish69 I don’t know too much about the logistics in terms of legality, but legal inaccuracy wouldn’t shock me. My main point was about the message being sent through the punishment, rather than the realism of it.
I absolutely love when the dean points at Mr Feeny and says “This is a teacher”
Well Feeny is her real life husband.
Of course, his concern was for the safety of the students. He put himself on the line to make sure they were protected from this predator.
i love shawn's support of cory, even though he finds a teacher he likes. he still stands by cory's side because he trusts him. he's his BROTHER
You have the right to like a way someone teaches but still dislike them for how they act outside of class.
@@hotsauce5745 Like a teacher I had back in middle school. I looked up to him until I found out some bad things about him
Stuart is Cory's brother!!! Lol
When Shawn told Cory that it's ok that he hit Stuart it may have seemed pointless for him to say that in the middle of the trial, stupid even but it actually was very important he said that. Because Shawn feels like he failed to defend Cory when he was being questioned by Stuart. He saw Cory was about to lose the trial so he did the only thing he could think to do to hopefully comfort him in that moment, to tell him what he did was ok even if it actually wasnt. That's a true friend to the end. I always wanted a friendship like Cory and Shawn had growing up.
Topanga too 🥺 I love how even though both boys did misogynistic things when they were young, they didn’t hesitate to have her back on this. The show really does show how much the characters have grown up.
“It’s okay with Shawn” is the cutest thing ever. Corey values Shawn’s good opinion and moral fiber than anyone else.

1:30…. That line gets me every time when she credits Feeny for being the role model as a teacher. She pretty much stripped Stuart of any worth when she acknowledged his violation of trust and his lack of ability to, even *remotely* live up to the George Feenys out there.
Feeny was on the next level when he took on the position of a collegiate teacher and you could tell the Dean respected his effort to protect them but she also reminded him that they’re no longer in that little classroom at Adam’s High. They have to face those real world situations on their own when they answer for the choices and actions they made. But Feeny was always there to help and support in whatever way possible.
When I first this and saw how she pointed to Mr. Feeney, 17 year old me was like “FUCK YEAH HE IS!!”
@@lukemomodujr 😂😂
I love how Shawn (this part wasn’t shown in this clip) responded to Feeny saying “I don’t know how we could have compared him to you…
A true teacher cares about their students academic achievements, and emotional state. Sadly not a lot of them out there are like Feeny. Stuart has absolutely no care for his students, and based on what he said to Topanga prior to the hearing, it is implied he would have gone after her next, twisting the story to make her look bad.
"This a teacher, Stuart."
You're damn right he is
I got that reference... "you got any Beemans?" "Yeah" "Well loan me a stick, I'll pay you back later."
I love when Shawn said it’s ok that he hit him. I took it as he wanted to take a swing at Stuart after realizing what he really was.
I think he's also saying he understands why Cory did it at the moment. He probably would have done the same for Angela.
@Unversed333 i think knowing Shawn he'd done alot worse 😂 he would've kicked Stuart's punk ass!
What’s really frightening is the predators that don’t get caught. The ones you would absolutely never suspect. The ones that appear saintly. The ones everyone loves.
To Stuart, "Teacher" was just a title with some authority he thought he could exploit.
But Feeny has demonstrated numerous times, and the scene lays out clearly, that "Teacher" is role/responsibility to be taken seriously
Feeny is their teacher, because he helps them all beyond just teaching them academics. He teaches them about the facts of life, maturity, relationships, and helping them through their problems, sometimes with the much needed tough love.

Aww! Baby Cory❤️
Here’s the thing that gets me. When Topanga told Cory what Stuart did, I could see the anger in his eyes. And when he walked out to TALK to Stuart, he stepped outside and asked him point blank if it was true. And when Stuart didn’t even try to hide it, Cory told him up front that he can’t do that because Topanga is going and is his girlfriend/future wife. What makes me angry is how Stuart flatly shot down Cory. And show no ounce of respect for him as a his student nor, as a man protecting his girlfriend. And even mocked even taunted Cory by saying:
“I am going to KEEP doing it. And there is NOTHING you can do to stop me.”
From Cory’s words in that office. That is what I find hard to swallow Cory did ALL the right things. Stuart, the moment he push Cory into hitting him. Lost all respect as a teacher he had with his students.
Sometimes doing the right thing doesn't do anything.
@@hotsauce5745 I wouldn’t say that, the look of embarrassment and the fact that Stuart lost his post there, prove it did

Only in these sitcoms did everything turn out right for everyone. No matter how serious or scary situations got, justice was served and lessons were learned.
The reaction of the dean makes me wonder if someone had reported some of Stuart's, um, "extracurricular" activities; Topanga wasn't likely his first victim. He may have been encouraged to resign in order to avoid any sort of legal trouble as well as prevent bad PR for the university.
It could also be because she is a woman. Many women experience this at least once in the life. She probably saw the signs as soon as the professor tried to defend himself. She smelled a rat.
This show was a gem. Didn’t hide the realities of life even though it was a Disney show. Taught life lessons and the importance of family and community. Miss this kind of programming
Technically it wasn't a Disney show in the purest sense. It was still first and foremost a family sitcom that ultimately grew up with its audience, as later seasons focused on more serious themes such as sex, fidelity, alcohol, and the realities of college and post-secondary life. Considering it was on a major network television network (ABC) with less strict rules, they were allowed to tackle harsher realities in ways later shows actually ON Disney, simply aren't allowed to by nature of the brand.
Always nice when school officials understand there's more to a situation than the punch. When I was in high school I hit a kid that was being a jerk to me all the time. The principle had to suspend me, but also made it so that school day counted as one of the 5 days I was suspended for so I could return to school earlier. He suspended the other kid a few days since he knew that kid was the instigator. And was just nice about the whole thing, didn't yell at me or anything, said he couldn't condone the hitting obviously but understood I had just reached a breaking point.
I love how the parents just took off after the verdict lol
The Dean showed what a real educator does.
If I were the dean, I would have punished him, too. Not just looked for more issues. And I would have made sure that every university in the country knew about this incident of sexual harressment of a student (Topanga) and intimidation of two students (Corry and Topanga) immediately, as well as upon him leaving, should he do that.
There is no mistaking the dean's intent. She will find the evidence to fry him.
💯💯
@Bob Chessick the next one?? they have to wait for a next one?? it should be effective now not for the next victim
The circumstances did not allow her to punish him at that time. The hearing was specifically about Cory striking Stuart. By closing with the bare minimum punishment and an open threat to uncover the truth of Stuart's predatory dealings with his students, the Dean is telling him (and us, the audience) that his days are numbered.
@@Verylengthyapple She won't have to wait for a next victim. This hearing is specifically about Cory hitting Stuart. All she has to do is compile evidence of his past victims to send him down the river. And Topanga is clearly all in to see him get his just desserts. There won't be a next victim.

If you watch the clip where Corey pushes Stuart closely, you'll see that Stuart actually puts his hand on Corey first. Then Corey pushes him through the door.
Honestly, you shouldn't strike a teacher, but Stuart wasn't even hurt.
That was a little brother pushing a big brother. Which they are siblings in year life.
This was a powerful episode, and I think it may have been my first glimpse of the subject of sexual harassment, even if they didn’t use that term.
Not only "Sexual Harassment", but also "Misconduct", "Invasion Of Privacy", "Obstruction", etc.
The way she told him to sit down tho
I have always strongly believed in education and respect for teachers. But the moment a teacher does something to a student that makes them uncomfortable is when that students education goes down the toilet.
And that is the reason why William Daniels (Mr Feeney) signed on to do the show in the first place,, and because the character he was playing was a teacher, he wanted the teacher to be treated with respect and not be some dopey comic relief character
Stuart got fired from the university then went to be the villain on Bones…
I'm beginning to understand why so many cultures throughout history had an age of ascension or a rite of passage, after which a child was an adult. As a society, modern culture has eliminated that, making it feel unclear to us when we actually do become an adult and are no longer a child. I'm 40. I expected to "feel" like I'd reached adulthood at some point, like a defining moment, but I never did. If I had had a concrete moment like this it might have made my young adult years a little easier to cope with. A lot of us these days have a perpetually extended adolescence, and it causes problems eventually. Maybe some humans really do need a specific defining moment to say goodbye to childhood before they can emotionally and mentally move on properly.
I love that Cory's real big brother plays the sleazy teacher.

There's something I don't understand. To change the senario for a minute: the dean said she was bound to expell or suspend any student for striking an educator for any reason. What if the "educator" swung first?
I'm sure that would factor in a decision. But even Cory admitted that he swung first.

The writing for the dean is so good. It has aged so well. She gives Cory the perfect punishment and shames Stuart. I am so glad that as a late 1990s/early 2000s kid I got to grow up with this show. It taught me so much about life before I even started living it. As good as some kids/ young teen/ young adult shows are today, most lack this depth and realness. Almost like some themes are too "taboo" for young people, or on the other hand, they go too far. They can be either too comedic, or if they try to address important issues, miss that wholesome quality that reaches deeper into the soul. Boy Meets World strikes a rare perfect balance between comedy and lightheartedness and crucial serious issues in the lives of young people. I will make my kids watch this show even if for them it's ancient, LOL. Human experiences never go out of style as they are grounded in human nature. What a wonderful educational show, what a great example of a man, grandfather, teacher, and friend is Mr. Feeny.

This ain’t the wonder years, Stuart.
That guy was definitely a predator and a manipulator. He passes himself off as funny and charming. He uses his wit and charm to get what he wants. He tried to do that with Topanga. But thankfully, it didn't get that far. People like him definitely don't deserve to be educators.

Thank you @sapphield for posting the continuations back to back. It was satisfying to see the episode conclude. This was my favourite sitcom growing up❤️
I know this is about how much of a jerk Stuart was, but let’s take a moment to remember Dean was the real hero. She listened. And she watched as Topanga was doing her best to stay calm. Also, she let Cory speak and yes, Cory admitted his actions were wrong and he doesn’t deny he did not raise a fist. Once it was all said and done, Dean still gave Cory a punishment but she DID understand from just watching Stuart’s actions even when Mr. Feeny had more common sense and saw the warnings of his actions. Dean understood why Cory did what he did. And the lack of disrespect Stuart had for Cory shows that when Cory told him to not do it again.
“A Teacher MUST be a person a student can trust. The second the teacher uses pressure on a student for any reason whatsoever other than academic…that trust is destroyed.”
You knew as a kid when this show was over, your life changed instantly. This show warned every kid growing what the real world is as soon as you become an adult. You might lose or still keep friends you've grown up with. The finale when he said "class dismissed", Feeney also dismissed us. Today's tv content will never measure up to what we watched. Everything I watched from the Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Full House, just to name a few. Don't we all wish to go back in time just for a day..🤔
The actor who played Stuart not only played Kevin in The Wonder Years but also voiced the title character in the kids show Oswald because he kind of talks like him.
