    Robyn, the queen of songs for the broken-hearted. She’s so deft at writing these songs that some of her fans are worried about her actual love life and wellbeing. Check out ”Be Mine!”, an even better example of this, in my humble view.
    She was a teen star in late 90s and the blueprint for Britney Spears - (see: ”Show Me Love”, ”Do You Know What It Takes?”). Swedish girl by the way.

    She has been around since the mid 90s. Made her first US tour as a 15 year old. The lable treated her like any other owned product. They did not understand she was a force of nature. She said goodbye to all the old men of the industry, started her own lable, wrote and produced everything by her self or sometims in collaberation with other artists of her own choice. A feminist rolemodel. By now she has been touring with Madonna, sold out concerts at madison squere garden and moore. Looove her!

    Callum Scott did a cover of this song a few years ago that because really popular. It’s probably the version that you heard on the radio. His cover is slower and seems to resonate in a more emotional way where as the original (this one) was more of a club dance song. Both are good just for different reasons

  • @hackapump

    So, Robyn is the original. Ask Max Martin how many female artists have dropped a Robyn album on his mixing desk and said ”I want that”. To which he would typically reply ”f**k you, go work with her then”. (Jokingly of course). But yeah, she’s kind of like the Velvet Underground of 21st century pop - she inspired/influenced a lot of contemporary pop artists, but haven’t really had the runaway success that reflects her influence. (Not counting her 90s top 10 career as the blueprint for Britney). A very interesting artist with an extremely loyal fanbase. For example:
    Robyn had to fight the industry to get out of her teenage record deal, ultimately buying herself out with her own money. So she was probably never going to become a platinum-selling artist anyway. (The music industry is weird like that and doesn’t quickly forgive a perceived slight). She’s probably quite happy with the career she has though: She gets to tour the world and make exactly the albums she wants to make, on her own label, licensing distribution to one of the major labels. It’s just too bad that many haven’t heard of her.
    N.B. For those who don’t know: Velvet Underground was a 60s rock band featuring Lou Reed. They never sold many albums, but it is often said that everyone who bought one started an influential band.

  • @wickamo
    @wickamo Před 2 lety +48

    So this is the original. She made it a hit back in 2010 with her "Electopop" version. It depicts a woman in a crowded club just before last call who is dancing on her own while watching her ex-boyfriend who is embracing another woman, pondering confronting him for the last time before her time runs out. Critics praised it as the greatest song of the year and eventually, the decade. Rolling Stone ranking it at number 20 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2021. You're probably more famiiar with the cover by Britain's Got Talent contestant Calum Scott who released a cover in 2016. Calum's cover went viral on streaming services despite almost no radio exposure. His music video was released on 15 April 2016 that received over 400 million CZcams views in four years. You should do his as well as it is a very different take on the song and a very different experience.

    Robyn has been around for ages and is revered in the dance clubs. This song was from the album released in 2010. Her latest album, Honey, was released in 2018, sixteen years between albums. Honey is spectacular. It was on everyone's top 10 albums of 2018 lists. The title cut, Honey, is mind blowing and very futuristic sounding. Missing U is a synth pop masterpiece, Between the Lines sounds like it could by produced by Disclosure. The album is a must hear. Anton, I hope you'll react to more Robyn, she's worth the effort!

    The slower version by Calum Scott is good but I definitely will always prefer the original version by Robyn herself. The song just has a better, darker and dance vibe to it whereas Calum's version is just a slow version for straight people to slow dance to or cry to and I don't know, I just prefer this song to be upbeat and plus all the sounds Robyn put together in the song literally gives you an eargasm :)

    You probably originally heard the slow version of this song which was a remake of Robin's original more upbeat dance version. The remake was done by UK artist, Calum Scott. His version was more of a slow ballad. However this is Robin's song, and she wrote it. She's been around for quite a long time. She started back in the 90s at the age of 15 singing R&B. She was originally signed to RCA records who initially tried to push her as an R&B/hip hop artist. Much like the artist Pink, she started in R&B until she found her own voice in pop and alternative style music. You should look her up. She has sort of a cult following. She has a lot of good music and very interesting music videos out there. I believe she's an independent artist now and she still doing her thing. I'm sure you'll find some other music videos of hers that you might want to react to. 😊👍🏾

So many other artists has her as a big inspiration, even as she is not a household name herself, at least not in the states. Please take it WAY back to 1995 and react to her songs "Show Me Love" and "Do You Know (What It Takes)"!! She came out in the 90s and I was IN LOVE!! She has a completely different sound now compared to back then. Not in a bad way, but you see more of her range. Been a fan since the 90s!
    She was such a young girl when she did "Do You Really Want Me (Show Respect." She got her record deal at 14. You need to react to her older songs please! 💕💕💕

    She is Swedish like Abba and many others, they have a very unique way to create pop music, 2000 was heavily influenced by the way they do music, especially because many established music producers were from there, some of the best boy bands songs of the 90s and 2000 were written and produced by Swedish musicians

    I’ve read somewhere that Call your girlfriend is written from the other girls perspective. The one he’s kissing in this song, that is. A mirror song, if you will.

    Are you a baseball fan? The Red Sox team from a few years ago played the Tiesto remix of the Calum Scott version when they moved on to the ALCS. It was fun. I don't think they're the only team that has done a locker room celebration to it. I think maybe the Phillies did, too? Love the original the best but that version has become a part of baseball culture.

    just an fyi in case you haven't learned this tidbit yet. Robyn is far from brand new. Music producer (and songwriter) Max Martin selected her to be the next big 'girl pop star'. When Robyn balked at being manipulated and losing control of her art, she was replaced by ...... wait for it ,,,,,,, Britney Spears. ! Robyn then suffered a many-year exile in the industry before jumping back in years later. If you need further proof, listen to Robyn's 'Do You Know' ...... to my ear the similarity to 'Hit Me Baby' is quite eerie.
