Matt Williams, I watch all of your videos and each time I am blown away by your ability to breakdown such complex issues into lucid components. If you ever wrote a book on essay writing I would be so interested. Would absolutely love it if you started your own CZcams channel I think you have as much appeal as Jordan Peterson when you speak. I am sure your anecdotes at Oxford would provide such unique insights. What a great job you are doing!
Thank you very much for your kind comment!
@@JesusCollegeOxford1571 I was going to write my own comment much to this effect, but it would mostly have been re-iterating the comment above. I've just discovered your channel (I'm hoping to hear back from Cambridge next week, the algorithms somehow realised and sent me your Oxford rejection video) and I'm so glad I have! Your clarity and teaching style are inspirational, and I think it's amazing that you're making content like this that actually extends beyond the singular purpose of helping Jesus College Applicants. I'm sure that wherever I end up at university I'll find this video useful, and I think the same could be said of a number of your other videos: thank you!
@@wilhelmcough Did you get in (=
@@indigopillow8260 I did! It's genuinely been an ambition of mine since I was 7, and I still can't quite believe it. Mostly, I am elated - although I do fear that some of the ideas Matt brought up in the Oxbridge rejection video (e.g. the idea of Oxbridge being used as armour to hide a lack of self confidence) are possibly simply going unacknowledged now. That being said, I'm still incredibly grateful, and I hear my college have a free counselling service so hopefully even if that is the case it'll all work out alright in the end. What stage are you at in the school/uni/career path?
@@wilhelmcough Hi, I didn't see the reply to this but that's amazing you got in!!! I am currently in year 11 and have around two weeks left until my summer break and then sixth form although I am unsure on what A-levels I am going to study. Potentially thinking History, economic and politics but thinking about maybe taking geography instead. I am thrilled you got accepted though, best of luck when you start I'm sure it'll be amazing (=
Thank you for these videos. They have helped me enormously. I thought I was hopeless before I stumbled upon this channel; now I at least have a fighting chance!
Wonderful!
This is so fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing this!
It's a pleasure! Thanks for your comment.
Thank you very much for this video!! So interesting and got several helpful tips on essay structuring which should hopefully help with section 2 of the TSA and all future essay endeavours! I especially enjoyed the breaking down of the word « should » into two major branches which should (haha) be incredibly useful! Would love to see a sample essay coming from these questions as I would like to know how to incorporate definitions into an intro without sounding too formulaic.
Many thanks for this! Good luck!
Gold. Thank you so much. Wish this sort of critical analysis was more widely promoted in university essay writing.
Lovely! Thank you
hey sir, thank you so much for ur videos, can u make more videos for LNAT section B preparation? For eg: which topics or fields of study should we focus on, etc
Thanks! Please see here from ~32:00 czcams.com/video/9ENQwTVlhsI/video.html
Hello Matt. Do you please know when the Oxford Foundation year is running?
Would it run this year for students applying during this new cycle?
Thanks
Hi, yes, the Foundation Oxford programme will start admitting students in 2023, with the process for admissions beginning next year. www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/increasing-access/foundation-oxford
Hi Sir, Can you help me answer this question/quote for my essay? This is the question:
“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
Hmm, good question! I suggest you get right into the weeds of the question. For starters, can you by point of fact, measure accurately the compassionate actions of individuals? Also, isn't greatness a relative rather than absolute concept? That would mean that objectively measuring greatness is impossible. There could, however, be some inter-subjective consensus on what compassion and greatness are that could resolve this question in the affirmative.
Wish I watched this before writing my personal statement, this will for sure help many students in the future. May I ask why you like to wear sunglasses when looking at computer screens? XD
Thank you for your comment! I'm half blind, and can't see very easily in bright light. The glasses aren't technically sunglasses, but they look like them!
@@JesusCollegeOxford1571 ohh, I apologise for asking about this... didn't realise...
Personally, I disagree with splitting the term "should" into only 2 aspects. If we define whether we "should" do something as whether it is the morally correct thing to do, there are far more ethical paradigms than deontological and teleological ethics to consider (such as egocentric ethics and moral nihilism). However, this would take the subjectivity out of the question, as these paradigms define the answer to any question containing "should". Any essay containing this term, therefore, would simply be discussing which school of thought to subscribe to in the given context.
You must define should as you like. I was just offering a simple dichotomy to get us started.
