the absolute pinnacle of motorsports was gtp
Glenn Zlotowski actually the pinnacle of the development of these Nissan's was continued 2 years after GTP ended and was a pretty lively and competitive series only raced in Japan.
@jonny j actually I was referring to the JGTC cars. Thank you for your comment and clarification.
Yeah, Group c was the pinnacle of le Mans prototype!
Can-Am Championships, Interseries, WSC, Trans-Am, ALMS, Grand-Am, IMSA GTP all great series
was
The most dominant GTP car ever! Bring on the Porsches, Jags, Corvettes, and anything else you want! This car was it!!
wedge4hire maybe you forgot the AAR Eagle Toyotas 😁
@@MartlRS In the late 80's when this car was dominant, Toyota had nothing to compete with the Nissan
8 IMSA races in a row in 1988! That's dominance!
Well, no. The Toyota MkII Eagle was the pinnacle of the series.
When cars were real- And drivers !!
Just seen this car today at the Mitty and I was so hoping to see it run. Sadly, it did not.
I love the story behind this car. Ups and downs, and eventual domination! The car evolved into an unstoppable force in GTP!
Great video. This course is just fantastic, and the ride along was a joy to watch.
Well, domination until the Toyota Eagle MkIII arrived which dominated this series so significantly that GTP was dissolved for WSC.
That thing is glued to the road.. amazing!
It doesn't matter if today's cars are even faster, this one and the other GTPs are still unmatchable
I was there. The car was brutally fast!
This was the 962 Porsche killer... I saw these run and they were way above 1000 hp on full boost...
The manufacturers downplayed the true hp on these machines. In GTP, Toyota took over the dominant entry and despite their 4cy engine, the sanctioning body kept putting weight on them because of their power and dominance.
The Toyota Eagle was magnificent.
Downforce - around 10,000 lb at 200mph.
1,100+-horsepower.
Power came from a highly-boosted production-based 2.1-litre 4-cylinder engine. (2100cc).
142 psi of boost. 10,000 RPM.
1829 lbs.
Dominated the series.
In project cars 2, this car has 900hp
"Oh Great Rhetorico, why can't we have sports cars like this anymore?"
I race this car every week in Kamel GT. It's insanity on wheels 😁
@@lukemaney645 hes talking about a series in iracing
The boost gauge :)
Thought it was his tach at first then looked more carefully...That damn thing is on 80 lol! that can't be pounds :)
Well, metric units don't make sense for that number. It's likely inches of mercury, given the MAN label (manifold pressure) on the gauge. Assuming it's 80 inHg absolute pressure, that would put it around 25 pounds of boost, which makes sense for a high RPM 3 liter with 800 horsepower.
Boost was 35 psi in max power...
@@gtrguyinaz That's much closer to the red mark on the gauge. 30 inHg is atmospheric pressure so you're looking at about 100 inHG absolute pressure for 35psi.
Love this track. Fast and smooth. Love the car and driver. fast and smooth
First corner taken at north of 130mph. Crazy
Forget the GTR.. I wish Nissan would develop an ultra sport car and name it GTP
That car was so dominant, it was scary! I'm surprised its' competitors didn't attempt to outlaw it!
It was basically a GTP version of the 300ZX. They even promoted it as such.
@@Logan912
Yes, I remember the Millen Motorsports entries very well.
Whoever is driving that car is doing a great job, the sound is from the cockpit is just awesome 😁 👌
Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo, bring some respect to the older nissan racecars!
Absolute beast. I'm a big open wheel guy but when it comes to sports cars GTP cars are the top. Great look, great sound.
Love that course!!!
Man that's fast. The G forces have to be insane coming into turn 10.
One of my favorite GTPs, also Mazda Kudzu.
The pinnacle racing in the 80s and 90s !
They shredded at
Sonoma. A who's who
of drivers and team
owner. Support races
where just as great!
Trans am ,Indy lights,
Toyota Atlantics, Mazda
Pro . A full weekend of
Speed! Right in my
backyard!
Brabham, Robinson and other drivers drove this car
You can hear the wheel spin...and the wheel chatter comes thru the video. Love that engine sound!!!
1 more bit of info........as time went on.......the cylinder heads were welded to the block to prevent lifting.......this fixed much of the DNF issues.........35 psi in my R-35 GTR today makes 1200 HP on E-85.................
Yes. One of my favorite cars.
If you've got the grip, Let it rip 🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎
Grupo C, siempre es un placer oirlos, ojala volvieran :)
*IMSA GTP
Funny to think I was good at driving this in project cars its beastly irl
Same aff I jus got done playing
Back in this car's day, there wasn't a left/right turn complex before that bridge. Back then, GTP drivers were lifting up out of their seats coming out from under that bridge into the turn that leads to the front straight - meaning that the cars were descending faster than they would have fallen if simply dropped.
Great Driving!
this imsa>today's imsa
awesome, I haven't seen such braking confidence on any other classic car onboard video. It stops fast!
That is fucking nuts!!
Awesome
That's insane!
I saw Brabham race one of these at Heartland Park in 89', it was quiet believe it or not? The Jags were screaming trying to catch it 😂.
Wow a round steering wheel 😍
wanna see a race between this beast and the others r89 and r92cp..just for the lust
Maxwell Globule I saw one at Mid Ohio back in the 90s dicing with multiple 962s including the white and gold with red pin stripe Miller beer livery ed sponsorship. The Vintage Grand Prix there each year is still amazing and the ability to get up close and personal in the paddocks is unprecedented but there were really only a few years, less than 5 where Group C and GTP beasts ran in numbers there.
Untouchable 😂
Wow!!
seems like a leisurely sunday drive for the ZX_t GTP
That car was unreal to watch! Turning laps around 01:18ish
WOW
Around 7 tons of aerodynamic downforce near top speed at max setting. Yay!
The MkIII Eagle had around 10,000 lb at 200mph.
Can someone explain his footwork? Is he heel and toeing? Is he clutching on upshifts?? Thank you!!
Likely left foot braking and no clutch on any shift, just rev matching.
Favorite GTP car from my childhood. Anyone know what model & diameter MOMO?
The nearest two from those available now look to be the Mod.11, or Mod.69. I'm going with the Mod.69 as that is designed for use in GT and saloon cars and 350mm, whereas the Mod.11 is only either 260mm or 280mm and designed for use in single seater formula cars.
Maybe it's the mike setup(possible, can't even hear the turbo or loud upshift noises typical of this car), but this sure doesn't sound like the V-6 to me sounds like their V-8. Saw the car race extensively at Daytona & filmed it for HOURS & sounds nothing like this in my videos. That sound was what made it so addicting to watch! 🤔
Probably a restricted airflow for reliability and the car seems to have some elements of advanced electronics
Mean.
I wonder what top end he got down the long straight epic car
Paul Slavin bout tree fiddy
I Doubt he didnt anywhere near that
Had to be around or above 300 kph.
Well, that's shits all over current F1 vision 🏁🏁🏁
hahahaha

Does anyone know who owns this? I have an original race used windshield for it im trying to connect with the owner or sell
kloss602 Theo Bean
Cars made so much boost, cylinder heads were welded to the block... well north of 1000 HP...
(Toyota GTP MkIII Eagle had downforce around 10,000 lb at 200mph. 1,100+BHP, boosted, production-based 2.1-litre 4-cylinder engine. (2100cc). 142 psi of boost. 10,000 RPM. 1829 lbs.)
10,000Ib of downforce and it didnt break apart
That car hates physics.
1
Pure evil.
The 2 greatest cars ...Banned by the FIA because they were too fast and better than Porsche and Ferrari ...
This car never raced under FIA jurisdiction, it is an IMSA GTP car
@@09Libertarian Not to mention that Ferrari wasn't even racing prototypes in the 80s.
