    DISNEY STAR WARS - THE ACOLYTE:
    The Acolyte Episode 5 continued from the episode 4 cliffhanger in a lightsaber fight with the mysterious Sith. All of the Jedi were killed, including YORD and JECKI. Unfortunately for the show, the writing team did very little to establish these characters and get general audiences engaged enough to care when they died.
    Character development was rather flat and the performances by the actors left a lot of us feeling apathetic towards the supposed-to-be tragic events of episode 5. It's very difficult to watch this show, particularly at the same time as HOUSE OF THE DRAGON season 2. There probably could not be a greater disparity of overall production quality, writing, directing, cinematography, and acting between the two.

    Headland is getting vicarious thrills from killing Jedi. She said it herself in interviews. She is Sith sympathetic. She said Episode 5 was her favorite and it’s obvious that it’s because Jedi die one after another. Remember that Disney made Maleficent the victim and king Stephan the villain. It’s the same here. Sith are “misunderstood” and Jedi are villains and Headland gets a big rush watching them die. Note that the most graphic killing is of a woman Jedi and my guess is this was Headland’s favorite moment. The Apocolyte is little more than a TV expression of Headland’s personal psychoses. And KK is her enabler.

      @@forcedtosignup2 In all fairness, the movies had such moments in its light saber duels as well. Although, one can argue that the movement is to build up physical momentum on slashes and blocks, trying to push an opponent back with particularly forceful blows or counters, like when Luke fought with Vader and his energetic attack took his father's hand off in the Throne Room fight in the third movie of the OT. We therefore know that more physical pressure applied by a duelist in pushing down with his light saber against another duelist's light saber blade can push them down or back, because we have visual proof of these types of fights on screen in the OT and PT.

    In the original Star Wars I believed that Jedi were rare. For three movies, outside of the council meetings, the main characters didn’t see any Jedi. So, the death of a Jedi would be a big impact to the Jedi Order, as they are rare and difficult to replace. In this show the Jedi are incompetent, easily killed and their death is basically so trivial they leave their bodies to rot where they fell without a tear.

      In EU canon, as of the start of Episode II there were about ten thousand knights and masters. I might argue, based on the wording, that there would be about 50,000 total Jedi (and that’s my upper limit) based on the number of kids training that we see in the prequels, that most masters would have a student at any one time, and that the Jedi had multiple Service Corps made up of former initiates who weren’t chosen as an apprentice. That’s in a galaxy where the population easily goes into the trillions.

If a Sith or Jedi has the power to picked you up or force push you, there is no need for a lightsabre fight, they already won.

      Except when you watch fights in the movies, none of the Jedi fighting him has their lightsabers "short out". That "partial Cortosis" might have been added to get a writer out of a tight narrative spot, but it also slightly contradicts with what we see on screen in the movies.

    It's not just nobody cared, it's that losing those Jedi didn't have any major impact on the structure of the world. There's still a Jedi council, still a lot of padawans, etc. The Red Wedding turned the power structure of the world upside down. This was mostly meaningless.

    So I get that not all Jedi masters are combat oriented (I don't think anyone at disney understands what a jedi master is but whatever). To use a martial arts analogy, a padawan is like a white belt in BJJ, Jedi masters are black belts. I've rolled with black belts and they know exactly what you're going to do and the counter and you have no right moves. But they just decided Jecki should use girl power or something.

    09:45. I have to agree with Valliant on that point. For a studio who was so eager to dump the EU/Legends and the successful blueprint it provided for key characters for the next 10-20 years, they seem to "borrow" quite a lot from the EU (I wonder how the original authors of those ideas feel about not getting any royalties/residuals), but at the same time refuses to actually do the EU stories (probably because they can't anymore, because they screwed up Luke's family tree with their "ST", and instead want to do their VASTLY worse "own universe" (with showrunners, directors and writers who are actively embarrassing the studio with what they come up with). Kinda makes you think, doesn't it?

    • @sigmacademy
      @sigmacademy Před 7 dny

      But to add to the "read a random coloring book, novel or something" remark, Valliant, you have to remember that there is an ENTIRE NEW timeline of JUST Disney Star Wars canon (via their recent novels, games, comics, etc. ever since the company bought the franchise). So, one has to ask: if they can't even write something that is in line with the original canon, is ANY of their CURRENT canon even in line with what they put on screen in their streaming shows (if the showrunners and writers are simply "making it up as they go"?). I'm going to lean into a hard NO with that one, because I don't think there is someone who is even checking lore consistency on their NEW canon (I also can't find any mention of such a person anywhere).

    I bet Lesley brings Revan into star wars as a women (because star wars is disney princesses in space now, and god forbid they give a man a front and center role for a future project). Her little hint at wanting to make a series based on the old Republic could be a hint to who comes and defeates Qimir or possibly, be his master.. which then is linked to the Revan Legion, in The Last Jedi.

    Cortosis was in a canon book about thrawn and Anakin. There was an attempt to make droids out of it. But it was to hard to get and too fragile outside of energy based attacks. That's why it broke so easy when jecki hit it. It's been canon..

    I know this question will not be answered, but it must be asked. IF you were unfamiliar with the Star Wars lore (as you were when Star Wars first came out) would the show make sense? I mean, before Star Wars the only thing close to 'the Force' we had was Carrie White's TK in the 1976 film. So, when we went in, sure we could make that leap, but what about some of the other things we saw for the first time? Well, now that I have articulated the question there really wasn't anything NEW in Star Wars since we had all known about sword fights from things like 1939's Robin Hood, and robots had been a thing for decades before that. Hmm, FTL travel? No, because we all knew people from the film Forbidden Planet traveled faster than light. So, I guess it is the LORE of Star Wars that makes us question what we have seen here (although not me, I have not watched any Disney products since TLJ). Knowing that, my question now becomes, what about the people out there who watch this show w/o Star Wars lore knowledge, are they enjoying it?
