2022 Honda Passport Trailsport: Better than Chevy Blazer?

- The Honda Passport started life as a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo SUV, but when it was brought back for the 2019 model year Honda decided to keep all design and manufacturing in-house. Basing the new model off the larger Pilot three-row crossover, this shorter two-row SUV has a more compact silhouette, but that does not hamper interior space.
Redesigned for the 2022 model year, and now boasting a new off-road oriented Trailsport trim, this new Passport has much more masculine styling on the outside, with Pilot styling carrying over on the inside.
The Trailsport boasts new Firestone Destination tires riding on Trailsport-specific 18-inch wheels. Inside orange contrast stitching and all-weather rubber floor mats make this model ready to get dirty. Partnered with the excellent i-VTM4 AWD system, this Passport is more capable than its light modifications and crossover roots let on.
What did we think about this rig on our 1,200 round trip to the southernmost Texas beach and back? Watch to find out.

Thanks for the excellent review.
Thanks for watching
Thankyou for this review..Very detailed & great..This has helped me decide which one to go with..
Thank you for watching.
Not a bad review, but I disagree with your points about performance. I own a PP TS and think it's pretty fast and fun to drive, but that's my opinion. Best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have had some really nice cars.
Love that you love yours. We have tested some (that Kia Sorento X-Line SX Prestige) that just felt more anxious to get moving than this. Honestly, we loved this car!
Do you get 24MPG ever?
I just don’t get the MPG that these reviewers say they’ve gotten. I drive mostly highway in Arkansas (lots of mountains) so maybe that’s the reason - but i always use cruise at 75mph with ECO mode on.
@@jerrondavis3259slow it down to 55 to 65.
Good review, I enjoyed it. One thing though, when you were talking about it not being so exciting or exceptional relative to it's performance. Well...with a 0-60 time of around 6.0 seconds, (Much quicker than many other SUV's in the category) and what I would assume is decent handling with the smaller size, Honda's usually great suspension and great AWD system, I would expect it to be more fun than you indicated.
Two things holding it back, auto start-stop makes it feel slow in traffic and the “Eco” button should be labeled “anemic”. 🤣
@@GTGarageTalk Seriously? All new vehicles have that auto-start-stop crap, it's simply for fuel ratings, and in all vehicles you can disable it. That has nothing to do with performance. Regarding the "eco" button, you obviously don't set it to eco if you are looking for performance. It's like blaming an oven for not cooking fast enough when you set the temp to 100, lol.
@@kevinbreese5739 okay, okay.... calm down... lol
The start stop, while defeatable, does make it sluggish in traffic. yes I know all are doing it. yes I know you can buy an aftermarket fix. yada yada yada.
Nice analogy on the Eco button.
Back to your point about performance, the Sorento X-Line SX Prestige we had felt much more athletic than this.
@@GTGarageTalk Don't you realize all you have to do is simply press a button to disable auto start-stop each time you get in the vehicle? Are you saying you are too lazy to press a button? Again, it's the same for almost all new vehicles, so I don't know how you are faulting the Passport as if it's something exclusive to it, nor do I understand why you simply wouldn't hit the button, lol. Regarding the performance, thanks for the feedback. Perhaps the Kia corners a little better (I don't know, but I'll take your word for it), but in terms of acceleration, per C&D testing the Passport was a few tenths quicker in 0-60 and 1/4 mile. (SX Prestige X-Line AWD w/the 2.5T).
@@kevinbreese5739 Not "faulting" the Passport, per se... just saying that we have been in vehicles with that same start/stop functionality that performs way better off the line and in stop/go traffic than the Passport. it is not the smoothest operation. Not all ESS systems are created equal.
How does the 200 watt radio sound? Would you rather have the 500W system in the elite?
It’s ok, honestly we aren’t audiophiles here. It played my son’s kid songs quite well. 🤣
Comparing a Honda to American made crap?
Comparing a Honda to a Chevy. 😉
Passport made in Alabama 😮
@larryjohns8823
True. Better quality standards though.
