How to update Nikon D850 firmware

- Nikon periodically updates camera firmware to add new functionality and fix existing bugs. This video shows you how to download the new firmware from Nikon’s website and upload it to your camera. The process is simple, but there are a few key elements that you have to get just right in order for it to work properly.

fabulous video! Problem is my firmware version is 1.03 and at Nikon web side there is no provision to update from 1.03 to the latest version of 1.20. Please help! thanks

hey, thanks for the tutorial... my camera, when at the FIRMWARE" menu option DOESNT show the option to update, only "DONE", any idea why that would be?

I had the same problem at first. It turned out I initially put the .dmg file I downloaded from Nikon on my SD card instead of opening that on my computer and moving the .bin file that was inside it onto my card. Once I had the .bin file on my card, my camera recognized it.

why dont I have the option to update? Mine just has the version listed and "done". It doesnt look like yours within firmware.

Followed your instruction to update the firmware on Nikon D850 with no problems what so ever, I did notice though that the icons looked different from your description but it was no problem. I went and tried downloading the updates for the Lens Distortion but it would not let me update them on the camera, do you know the reason why? When I went into update, all it said was done or complete but the Lens Distortion was still the same?

G'day Mike. Can I use a SD card to update ? Also looking at my menu it only says done. Not update .
same happened to me, I don't see any "Update" option.
I had the same problem and then after playing around some, I figured it out - You can update it with only SD Card but what you must do is eject the XQD Card from the camera first. This way, the camera does not look for the Firmware file in the XQD (since that slot is empty) and so looks into the SD Card and you will get that update option.
You need to highlight the fact that you need to use the touchscreen to select OK to update. “Clicking” the selector button does not work in this case.
I have updated but still am unable to access the D850 Wifi or bluetooth as it is grated out in the camera's Setup menu.

what if pushing ok in update panel doesn't initiate firmware update
So is the Bin file supposed to be the only file on your memory card? I cannot get mine to go through the Format process. I heard you say it would be a good idea to do that
I noticed on other videos that they have more than 2 updates. Do you know what other firmwares can be added?

Does reformatting the SD card return subsequent image count back to zero? This causes an issue with the Lightroom catalogue. Since I have images starting from 0001?
my camera is stuck on the updating screen...what do i do now!???!
That's not a good sign. I haven't had that happen before. If it were my camera and it had been stuck on the updating screen for 30 minutes or longer, then I'd shut down the camera. Upon reboot, if it was still having a problem, then off to Nikon it goes for repair!

No, It was a Defective POS. Traded it in on a Z9, night and day difference. The Z9 can actually Focus, something that God Damn POS D850 could never do.
