      @TheNikonanthony Hi! I would say that as long as everything works properly and the camera doesn’t have any bent pins in the memory slot and everything looks in tact. You got yourself a nice kit for a good deal. The price alone for that camera has gone up recently and the quality that it produces in images is gold. Congratulations on your purchase! 🎉

    When I did my D3X firmware, it did not to A & B together. I had to do A first, then reformat the card and do the same process over again for B.

      @Cotictimmy Hi! Ok good to know. I guess its different for the D3 cameras. I would assume for the D4 as well. For anyone reading this it is an important thing to note for this specific camera, the D3X. Thank you for sharing and thank you for watching!

    Not sure there are any nikon cameras left that haven't been updated considering nikon never updating thier updates. Wish nikon would continue to make updates to make dslrs of the past better.

      @atruceforbruce5388 I completely agree it would be so nice if Nikon would release new firmware that would give the older gear new capabilities like other camera manufactures do. Thank you for watching!

    Kris, just picked up a D7000-not d700. Firmware upgrades. It says that I need Mac OS X version 10.6.8 - 10.9.4 but I have a Mac Sonoma 14.1.1 so I am out of luck? too afraid to do it-and is there that much gain or let it be? My d7000 currently has A1:02 B1:03 L 1.002. Thanks for any help !

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Před 25 dny +1

      @johnraymond6926 Hi John, I looked up the firmware update and saw the same thing. I believe as long as you can double click on the dmg file and mount it, the update should work the same. As long as it can open the file and the the instructions can be used from Nikon's website everything should work out. It looks like Nikon updated the OSX version when the firmware came out and hadn't changed anything since. It is for the distortion control data Version 2 within the camera and will fix barrel and pin cushion distortion for a large assortment of lenses. Here is Nikon's description of the update:
      Distortion Control Data Loaded into compatible cameras, distortion control data reduce barrel and pincushion distortion when photographs are taken or edited.
      I myself have
      A: 1.01
      B: 1.01
      L: 1.02
      My camera works pretty well for me, and don't really find the need for an update myself. I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Thank you so much for watching!

    So if my camera is working, why would I update it? What’s the upside?

    • @frutt5k
      @frutt5k Před rokem +1

      I updated my D7100 to be able to use AF-P lenses.
      It looks like there is an update for my D90 that corrects lens distortions better. But why would I correct the images I took with my fiheye lens? I mounted that lens because of the bent lines...

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Před rokem +2

      @fryscountrylifechannel4437 Hi, the update for this camera in particular is so you can use the 800mm lens on it. But I have also found on the Nikon website that you can use a certain 64gb CF card with the camera with the latest firmware update as well. I believe it said it was a 64gb SanDisk Extreme Pro 90MB/s card. If you are upgrading the firmware on any other Nikon camera there could be substantial benefits to doing so, but if you are happy with the way your camera performs and don't have any issues with it then I would say weigh it out and decide if it would be beneficial to you to update your camera. I did the update for this camera in particular because of the memory card upgrade. With Raw + Jpeg I now get 1,800 images and if I were to only shoot in raw I now can shoot up to 2,400 images. The memory card does have to be a certain speed though. I tried using a SD card in my cf adapter that was rated at 170mb/s and the camera didn't like it. I tried to format it within the camera and it never finished the format. The memory card became corrupt so I had to reformat the card on my computer under disk management. So I then tried an older 64gb card and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps.

      @Kris_World  Před rokem +2

      @frutt5k Hi frutt, I would say for that situation the firmware update for the d90 was code to fix a list of lenses that didn't communicate with the camera very well. Also auto lens distortion was introduced in the Nikon D7000 back in 2010 and to be honest it worked pretty well. Now for it adjusting the lens distortion on a fisheye lens I really don't know if it would. I don't have one to test this out.... But I do know that every lens has a chip in the barrel and I am sure Nikon thought of the same thing. So I would say the update is probably lens specific and voids certain lenses for the update but I am not 100% sure. I would say that if you are happy with the way your camera is working then I would stick to the version that you have. Hope this helps.

      @@Kris_World Nikon shooter here... great video! My D700 shows A. 1.02 and B. 1.02 and i Shoot with it routinely with zero issues. I also don't plan on attaching an 800mm lens to it any time soon. So, I should be good, yeah?

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Před rokem +1

      @genesultry6447 Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! You should be good. If you have zero issues with your camera I would just leave it the way it is. The only reason I updated mine was to give my camera the ability to use a 64gb memory card in it. Its just finding the right 64gb card that will work. On the Nikon website it shows that when updated the Nikon D700 can use a Type 1 64GB CF card rated at 90mb/s. So it will expand the amount of images you can take. I'll put the link in the video description if you want to check it out. It doesn't say it on the list of cards, but it does say it in the description. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

    How would you know when it's time to update the firmware?

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Před 9 měsíci

      @averymcdaniel423 Hi Avery, I would say you will know when it’s time when you feel like you need the update that comes with the new firmware for your camera. I updated my D700 because Nikon said that with the latest firmware I am able to use (certain) 64GB cards. I found value in that because for me 32GB was just too small. So I use an SD card with a Compact Flash card adapter. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

      @@Kris_World just a little detail about those SDtoCF adapters is that I've experienced: the continous high frame rates are lower with CFtoSD adapters than using normal CF cards. so for my purpose, events etc., I need to stay with CF cards to get the 5-10 frames/sec. but anyways: thank you for making content for the d700. just such a beast of a camera.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  Před 7 měsíci

      @averymcdaniel423 Hmmm it sounds like it’s more of computer read write permissions issue then a card issue. Also make sure that the lock switch on the card, if using an SD Card with an adapter is off. That will prohibit the card to being written to. Hope this helps.
