    Shirataki can be great if handled right. Like you said the dry frying is the most important part. I'd like to add that the shape of the noodles is really important too, at least for me. I like the thinner and broader noodles more than the spaghetti style ones. They are just perfect for asian stir fries in a wok.

    If you lived in the southeast United States, Publix supermarkets will stock anything you request as long as it is in their buyer's catalog. Shirataki is in the catalog, so look for them in the cooler section or produce department, or ask at the customer service desk and they'll order them for you.

    Great video! :D Had great success with these noodle using Mee Goreng paste, chilli, garlic, fish sauce, lap cheong, dash of soy and a few bits and bobs from the fridge. Alternatively a traditional carbonara worked pretty great as well.

    Shiratake is almost comparable to rice noodles when it comes to texture and taste. So it is most likely will compliment asian stir fry noodles and noodle soup that calls for rice noodles. I must admit I didn't like it as a pasta replacement however you'll get used to it. It is a great cheaper alternative to other carb replacements such as keto bread made with almond flour.

  • @plan8plants418
    @plan8plants418 Před 3 lety +3

    I get mine from homebargains (store in the UK) and they are half the price. They are quite tasteless but great if you mix them with a sauce and veg. They are no where nearly as filling as a comparable amount of noodles (obviously!) but a good enough alternative. You just need to have realistic expectations when you first have them.

    The reason they're fishy is the water they come in. You need to rinse them for a bit to remove all of the liquid. I use warm water and rinse for around 1 min. Then do the dry fry. Unless you want them softer then just add them after rinsing more like spaghetti style

    Maybe I just got lucky with the brand I bought but I got a wet type one and fully expected to still have to do added steps to mask any tastes or remove any smells but ended up surprised as they didn't have any weird tastes or smells and even texture. All I had to do was rinse and it was just the same as any noodle. I even tried eating one strand by itself before adding any sauces and there was nothing bad or even unusual about it.

    I have tried them for the first time and I can’t believe how similar they are to pasta but specially to regular noodles. A bit chewier but overall a winner! I used them to replace spaghetti in a meat sauce and almost cried cause I have been on keto for four months and haven’t eaten any pasta, rice etc. Oh and cauliflower rice is a no go for me.

    I have a name for them.....I call them alien entrails! Sorry, tried different brands and cooked them different ways. Was able to remove the odor but the texture remains the same....either a slightly under done alien entrail or a slightly over done entrail. So....I decided to remove alien entrails from my diet. I'll stick with doodles!😉
