  • She's up and running well, but the brake pedal irritates me the way it rattles fore and aft as she runs down the road. I came up with an easy and logical fix. Let's do it.

My 1950 Panhead is also called "Baby Doll." I got her in '62, when the movie had come out, and the song was playing on the local radio station. I once had a girlfriend, who at one point asked me, "Now am I Baby Doll No.1?" I just changed the subject... That was a long time ago. I still have Baby Doll No. 1.

It's the little things like a rattling pedal that bug me and detract from my riding experience. Not a big deal, but that's how I am. I've gotten my pan bobber almost there, but my shift pedal rattles. I need to find some bronze bushings at the local Ace that are close in size and then press them in and hone to fit. It's a GMA and has no bushings, just steel on steel, and it's worn really sloppy. I might drill it and tap for a Zerk fitting, too. Glad you're really enjoying the knuck, and thanks for another cool video. Nice trick with the WL pedal.

Mike, just an idea to tweak the upgrade; how 'bout a thin strip of leather between the lever stop and the collar? Might help prevent rust and be a bit quieter.

In this age of mobile computer networks disguised as motorcycles, with EFI, layers of touchscreen menu options, Sat Nav, riding mode presets and proximity radar, it's good now and then to see that there are still just plain old motorcycles.
At some point we'll be sending our "motorcycles" out on trips by themselves, while we watch from home on our full-emersion, virtual reality headsets, convincing ourselves that we're really outside having fun.

It's great to see you tonight hope you had a great thanksgiving yesterday. To me every day is thanksgiven ha ha ha. Im thinking you can't leak brake fluid everywhere it's mechanical 😊. Run faster and jump higher😊. Can't see good was the brake pedal dark green? Military 45? Wheel sprocket 51 tooth? Engine 24? Transmission 25. I was just curious mostly about the wheel sprocket. And the reason I don't run a speedometer either. 😎
I'm only about fifteen hundred miles to the big pond over there. I'm thinking stopping and smoking a cigarette and gas. Fifteen hours I could be there. Give or take a few minutes 😂 Have a good one. Brothers ✌️

Ahh, so endeth the toe-tapping pedal, it's rhythm now collared at birth,
with a nice new shoulder to lean on, so quelling the brake rodded mirth.
Shoe springs & cam faces adore you, for 'damping' that pedal was hard,
& thanks to a lengthy old link rod, the wobbles increased by the yard!
So farewell, you foot-dancing nuisance, your efforts were well out of touch,
& although our Michaels' may miss you, rest assured that it won't be by much.

Thank you for the great videos. You do things exactly the way my dad taught me. I have a 1956 pan 6vdc I have been fighting for years. It wants 20 to 30 kicks and I cant quite handle that. It has a cv carb which I think is a big part of the issue. A new cv will be i stalled in the spring. My question for now is it has a round dual coil which I suspect is 12vdc. Are coils and condensers the same for 6 and 12 vdc systems?

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  Před 7 měsíci

Could be your problem. 6 volt coils are definitely different than 12's. Condensers don't know the difference.

  • @frankvilla1573

If the spring was on it, it wouldnt rattle. Drill a hole thru your mid-way foot peg mount like the original floorboard bracket has and voila!

The bike makes excellent gas mileage and I've actually ridden it 80 miles before stopping. But, at my age, on a rigid, I stop fairly often these days. The tank is, I believe, 2 1/4 gallons.

Don't know what belt drive you have. Probably only need a trans sprocket and rear wheel change. Sounds like you want to go pretty high. How about a 24 on the trans and a 49 on the wheel? Don't know your size or much else. This should get you close. It's always an experiment.

I just take it easy for a while. Vary the RPM's up and down the scale, but nice and easy. Get her nice and warm, then let her cool down completely and then retorque the heads and barrels. Do this 3 or 4 times, then , after about a few hundred, do it again. Change your oil and go play.
