Finally caught Wheeling’s siren polling after ages of looking for their frequency. I randomly had my scanner on set to a wheeling frequency and then all the sudden, FSK started to blare from my scanner lol. I am honestly not too sure if it is Wheeling’s polling that I was hearing as they have only 6 sirens, but I heard way more that 6 FSK tones get sent out to request the siren status leading me to believe that it was Wheeling and Northbrook as Northbrook’s sirens have the same exact radios and antennas as Wheeling’s sirens. Perhaps Northbrook’s sirens are controlled by the Wheeling police department as the two frequencies I had on my scanner were two of Wheeling’s police department frequencies. That would also explain why I didn’t hear some response tones as some of the sirens are just too far away and out of my scanner’s range
Scanner used: Baofeng UV-5RA - Věda a technologie
It's pretty interesting. I've once heard Evanston polling at 2 am.
At night?
Yes lol. All it does is just test the radios of the sirens as well as their circuits without actually setting them off
@@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernILYeah I know how polling works. What time? As Im near Wheeling and would like to hear FSK from my scanner
@@firealarmexpert25Ok. It is around 9:30 pm and if u have IG u can message me for the frequency or look it up on radio ref. My scanner was on dual standby mode so idk for sure which frequency it was
What is it for? It looks like some jumbled up walkie talkie lol
It’s a programmable two way radio and the polling tones are to check the circuits of the sirens to make sure the radios work and their electrical components without setting them off. The sirens they have are Federal Signal 2001-130s hence the Federal Signal FSK. A lot of siren systems do that if that’s what ur talking about. The two way radio I have is mainly to scan activation frequencies of siren systems or to communicate with ppl over walkie talkie frequencies like the ones in the 462Mhz range
@@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL Oh so basically the siren is like a tornado siren or something?
@@nerfcats29 yes, they’re tornado/outdoor warning sirens and the tones just silent test them. My town is on a trunked radio frequency which I can’t scan with the radios I have currently and silent tests just like that but with a different type of FSK tones and three times a day. Really common on modern tornado sirens like Federal Signal 2001-130s, ASC T-128s, and ATIs. Gotta love this stuff!
