Yea. Like Tesla screen dependence would also make sense if they were sub-$20k cars. But they're not. In a $60+k car I'd better have a button. "But it's safer" oh go the heck back to your Tesla forum that was a sad argument 5 years ago.

    • @tobias_dahlberg

@@KevinJDildonik It's not safer, I don't get why anyone would use that as an argument. It is simply cheaper to integrate functions into a main display. And car manufacturers like Tesla and others sell this to the customers by saying "It's advanced technology" or something like that. I'm not mad about it in the EX30, they needed to hit a specific price point. But I do not accept it in expensive, luxury cars.

The EX30 is pretty much the only new car I can get excited over at the moment, though sadly it’ll still likely be a bit out of reach financially when it lands here in Australia…. a used XC40 Recharge by then will likely be a more accessible and attractive option, especially as it retains some hard button controls and a more traditional dash. I do wonder just how much a single knob-button - press to switch between fan speed, temperature and volume - under the screen would have added to the end price though. Having a HUD as an option would have solved the speedo cluster issue easily. Still, the Model 3/Y are amongst the biggest selling cars (not just EVs) at present so clearly people don’t care enough about the ‘all on one screen’ UI to buy something else. I do wish EV makers could come up with AWD models that aren’t top spec models though, just put a 50hp motor on the front wheels and don’t charge 10-20% more for it. I don’t need supercar 0-100kmh times, I just want all four wheels turning when it’s slippery.

As a Tesla owner, I have to ask, was this designed by former Tesla designers or did Volvo utilize a lot of Tesla design cues when it comes to minimalism? Also want to add, I have always loved Volvo’s as well!

There it is, the obsessive Tesla owner making everything about Teslas 😂
If anything Tesla is the copycat, minimalism isn't a new thing in Scandinavia and Sweden especially where this is designed.

@@karstenpedersen7749 would love to hear an example… and I’m hardly an “obsessive Tesla owner”, I’m an obsessive car guy and motorsports fan that owns a Tesla because I drive 30,000 miles a year and it saves me a ton of money. No other brand has the charging infrastructure to even compare to Tesla. Also, if you ever owned or even drove one, you’d know the reality of how many things in common this shares with a first gen model S or X. If you were informed, you’d also know how many Tesla engineers and execs have left Tesla to go work for other companies… including the ones that started Lucid which is built 30 min from where I live. 🙄

I was already convinced, but the "Hey Google" definitely makes up for no physical buttons. Wow. My new dream car

I really like the simplicity of the interior. A mechanical hatch release somewhere in the center would be cool.

Doug said "hey Google" enough times to now be recognized as a member of my household.

LOVE THIS THING! Volvo's so on point with the EX30. It's not about getting it or not it's about getting it or waiting for the XC version. :O

As a M3SR Tesla owner, I like this lil Volvo!! Perfect daily driver, 0-60 in the low 5s is plenty fast for stop and go city driving, the range is comparable to my car, the "everything in the screen" you get used to, I like the window switch layout and ambient lighting, the keycard is cool (although I wish the phone key would be available from launch, awesome feature), "push brake to start" will make you wonder why there was ever a need to turn a key, and according to the comments it has an excellent sound system. This will probably sell really well here in the US at its rumored price point, and should pull some of the Elon haters off of the fence. Plus it's really nice looking!!

As a fellow M3SR owner, I agree with everything you said here. I was kinda hoping Doug would mention how this would compare to the standard Model 3, seeing as price point is very similar. Maybe in the future when the Volvo is widely available...
