I starting to see people don’t know the difference between a “golden child”, the “favorite”, and just holding your child accountable. I’ve never heard of a golden child getting bullied at school and home while the parents let it happen for years on end, while the bully gets repeated chances and zero follow through threats of discipline. The parents never took away from the sister to give to op, they didn’t give op opportunities denied to the sister, and they definitely didn’t hinder the sister’s life to give op a step up. They both sound like normal girls who didn’t get along. I don’t think the parents should’ve sent her to the rehab facility because I heard those places are awful. But they should’ve gotten her therapy and followed through on reasonable punishments like grounding. I’m not sure why she thinks she shouldn’t be held accountable for harassment, running off with her fiancé, and having folks bully op as a child.

Op is not the jerk. For those who said that this is a golden child situation forgot that op did mention that Olivia did study for business in order to inherit their father's business from the get go. Op said that before they took over their stepfather's business they had to learn the ropes first before they could run it. Op's stepfather helped them learn in order to inherit the business since op's major is history and needed more time to learn in how to run it. If Olivia hadn't ran away with Jake she would've gotten the business already since before all this happened Olivia had the advantage to inherit the business because she was a major at it.
