    This video couldn´t have come at a better time 😂. Just today I was frustrated that my dummy did not have arms to properly train knife trapping and movements. Thank you for this tutorial.

    Homemade dummies and gear are critical. Besides saving money , they make you think . Too often we forget that at some point, somebody in the past just decided "well this ought to work" , so why shouldn't we ? Same with drills . Figure out what you want to work on and then make stuff up! I had a traditional WC dummy , but I didn't really do WC . I mainly do Silat/FMA . So I put a spring loaded leg on it , complete with a shoe so I could step on it , and do trips and sweeps.

      I had exactly the same experience. I had a lot of success with a soft rubber knife on my double end ball but even that was mangling the ball pretty badly. I wanted something I could live cut on so this was a simple fix.

      @@systemacanada I know that angle... been doing a lot of shadow knifework, this is footwork for me. I want contact, and good contact, feeling, and sensitivity work is what's needed for best results in my op. From slice, puncture, to cut dont work with the air or the wooden dummy. This I'm gonna have to try.

    I found your channel looking for some dirty boxing videos and I really liked your view on the subject. Now I'm trying to understand where you stand, meaning what you train for. Why do you spend some time practicing angles using the knife? When do you think you're gonna have a knife in your hand to actually stab someone? Do you work in the military?

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  Před 3 lety

      Jacopo Picciuto there are many reasons. First you need to educate your attack. If no one in your school knows how to grapple and you out wrestle them all, it limits your development. Same thing with knife defense. I want to be able to defend against a competent attacker who is skilled with a blade. Secondly if you don’t understand the knife, you’ll fear it more. Third, weapon work enhances your empty handed work. I want to have boxing and grappling skills that work against all manner of attack. Fourth, many people carry knives and would use them for defense. I do also train military and professionals who might use a knife . Hope that makes sense.

    Sorry Kevin, just following up from a previous question regarding hitting with which knuckles. Is it possible to strike with top 2 knuckles whilst the fist is vertical? It seems the index knuckle doesn't land flush unless you bend the wrist - but is that wise?

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  Před 3 lety

      You’re exactly right it does require flexion. The fear of bending the wrist is often exaggerated. Think of using a hammer. At the moment of impact your upper most knuckles are forward and the wrist is bent yet still powerfully aligned. Arts that have a heavy weapon base often have bent wrist vertical two knuckles punches. I learned variations of this in karate and jujitsu. It exists in boat systems of Burmese bando. There was even a boxer named ceferino that used to use this in the ring

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  Před 3 lety +1

      My training time with vlad is well documented and widely known. I trained under him for 12 years. I was at that video shoot for vlad. Vlad is what attracted me to systema not misha. And vlad ‘s entire approach changed after Mikhail. Some people prefer soft work , religion and punch centric training. I did not, I preferred the earlier curriculum as did many others.. it was closer to the kadochnikov/ retuinskih toot and I prefer their curriculum. As for being thrown like a rag doll, those are demos not sparring. He is trying to teach not fight. The only soaring in that DVD was between me and Dina because mikhail was not able to demo on the ground. Even then it was lightly and friendly wrestling and not a hard roll.

      Asiz Sukinsok I trained with them 12 years. I disagree. I know CJAD disagrees too lol. He believes misha is some kind of god but in my experience mikhsil is simply too unhealthy to survive a real encounter. He has talent make no mistake but he had a lot of trouble moving , taught seminars seated, and for all of the hype about being a breath master, he was out of breath tying his shoes. You can’t eat and drink like that and expect your body to perform. But I realize most people in that circle believe mikhsil is better. I know vlad takes falls for him all the time but I think that sieaks more to V’s redirect for his knowledge rather than actual skilll. Again what passes for sparring and pressure testing in that community now is simply not in my opinion, but if it fits your world view enjoy it. That’s all that matters
