Preventing chronic wasting disease from spreading into Florida.

This video outlines rule changes that prohibit importing or possessing whole carcasses or high-risk parts of deer, elk, moose, caribou and all other species of the deer family originating from any place outside of Florida. Under the new rules, which went into effect July 1, 2021, people may import into Florida:
• De-boned meat
• Finished taxidermy mounts
• Clean hides and antlers
• Skulls, skull caps and teeth if all soft tissue has been removed
The only exception to this rule is deer harvested from a property in Georgia or Alabama that is bisected by the Florida state line and under the same ownership can be imported into Florida.
These rule changes continue the FWC’s work to protect Florida’s deer populations by reducing the risk of chronic wasting disease (CWD) spreading into the state. CWD has not been detected in Florida.

Florida really needs to start having check stations like all the Northern states. You have 48 hrs to check your kill in and they age the animal, take a tissue sample for analysis and attach a permanent metal tag that stays attached until processing. The State of Florida has no idea in hell how many deer are truly harvested each year. The "Honor method" is a joke. I retired from farming in Indiana and moved here some 20 years ago and I am still dumbfounded that they don't have proper check stations down here. This is a prime example of just how inept and stupid the FWC actually is. I bet there's at least 3 to 4 times the deers killed compared to what's actually turned in.
